Don't know about everyone else, but I'm getting fed up seeing the same basic models rebranded and repainted all the time. The only really new product I've seen has been the Screwdriver, but superb as it is, it's not for everyone.

Ludo keeps tempting us with all sorts but keeps us waiting, but there is more manufacturers that Janty.

Use some imagination all you manufacturers, get designing, inspire us !!

the screwdriver is just a boring smoking tool.. it just works.. not a great deal of fun in something that does that.. he he

i do have some "gadget" ideas for it thow.. like a screw in lazor pointer or led emmitter.. or vibrxx... errr praps not with the last one.. he he he

I want the impossible Trog! Problem is you've made the screwdriver too good, it just works. I'm too used to fiddling with things when they go wrong and the screwdriver doesn't go wrong.

Couple of things I would like to see, one I know you've been thinking about is the screwdriver taking the Loongtotem/e-cigs disposable atomiser. That would be ideal, just one thing to carry around.
The other thing would just be a better performing normal e-cig with the auto switch, much as I like my screwdriver I can't really use it when driving.

The last one is perhaps something that the Janty fuzzy picture is, a e-cig that is completely visually different from any other smoking device. Perhap a flat design holding 4 AA NiMh cells, I knocked up a test one but when it comes to mechanical engineering, I'm a bodger:)

a flat design holding three AAA NiMh cells would work.. but power to weight wise it just has to be lithium cells..

we intended to to make an over and under device.. like an over and under shotgun style smoker.. battery underneath with the smoking tube on the top.. but in small quantities without major tooling costs it wasnt practical to make..

as for the smoking in the car thing.. i can no problems.. i am beginning to have sneaky suspicions some people might be using two hands to work the screwdriver.. u aint are u.. ????

we need some pics showing how to hold it i think.. i expected people to ask but so far no one has.. he he

No, I'm not using two handed !! It's just that when driving, I like a light automatic cig, that I can grip in my teeth if needed. I find an ordinary pen style too heavy so the screwdriver is difficult for me. It's OK when on a run but when fighting your way round Glasgow traffic it's more problematic. Perhaps I should get an automatic car

i am not a good example perhaps as regards driving with things in your hands.. i spent years racing around at breakneck speed driving a taxicab for a living.. mostly with a radio mike in one hand.. he he..

driving tip number one.. never ever hold something in your right hand.. always in your left hand.. if two hands really are needed simply drop the thing u are holding in your lap.. pick it up again when the emergency has passed.. he he he

a chip butty make a mess in your lap buy a screwdriver wont... he he he he

gear changing can be done with the thing in your hand no problem.. but having driven an auto car for some time i quite like em.. more so in city traffic..

but just for interest whatever e smoking device i now pick up i find myself pressing the end of it.. ??

but without doubt.. holding a screwdriver in your mouth would need some strong teeth and powerful jaws... he he

WARNING - Dripping and Driving KILLS
Seriously though, I have the same problem Pete has with his penstyle with my 901 i.e. holding the thing in my teeth when I need to use both hands - I'm on the lookout for the shortest/lightest super mini that has an auto switch and has had good reviews - maybe an Intellicig - any recommendations appreciated :D

Trog - I read somewhere that you may be looking at adapting the Screwdriver to accept a penstyle cartrige - any news on this? I received a penstyle with a 4 hole atomizer yesterday and absolutely love the mouth piece compared to the 901 - it may become my main puffer in the house.

If the Screwdriver could be readilly adapted to take differnet styles of atomizer, preferably without the need to return to base, I'd be seriously interested in purchasing one. Also - have you considered producung them in different anodized colours or maybe some funky enamellng  ?

we can make screw in adapters.. one guy in denmark has one.. but being none native english speaking we might not hear from him..

the only problem i have with classic type atomizers is they have to be for direct dripped to get the best results from them..

but we have our hands full at the moment simply making the basic device.. fancy bits will come later.. hopefully..

Yes lithium have the best power to weight but I was thinking more along the lines of a device about the size of a ... packet, so as 2700 mAh NiMh cells are cheap (and easily available, no more waiting for DX) and got a bit of power, they might be an easier option. The reason for 4 was perhaps chuck a voltage regulator in there, add to consistency, perhaps allow for an early low battery alarm. Yes it would waste a bit of power.

we could make a device about the same diameter but 2/3 the length of the DX health cigar with a 2500 mah lithium cell in it.. two days run time minimum..

they can be any size we even have some D cell sized lithium cells.. 5000 mah.. a weeks run time.. fancy one of those.. he he he

D cell sized lithiums are rare but we have some.. there is a lot of incendiary power in a D sized lithium cell thow.. which is why they are hard to find..

Trog, I feel ya. I'm doing mine on the box model (not a damned machinist:cry:) but, the 2500mAh Lithium battery is what I'm going with. I expect that even with my heavy use, I should see easily a day or better use between charges.

The 2500 is going to be my base battery in my new e-cig I'm designing. I'm testing using a porous ceramic 'cart' with the nichrome atomizer in the center of the cart. in the atomizer, I would leave clearance on the sides of the ceramic/nichrome assembly so that, as the ceramic heats, minimal heat is transfered to the sidewalls of the atomizer.

I need funds to knock up a prototype tho and so, this will be down the line. As a matter of fact, instead of an inline battery model, I might go with a palmable, wide style with the switch in the palm. I don't know.

I think at a certain size lots of countries start classifying them as dangerous goods. Which they are.

There is an amusing thread I came across in the comments section on dealextreme regarding the number of [something]fire Li-Ion brands out there:

****i didn't realize i wasn't allowed to post URLS until after i wrote this whole thing. i just rewrote the parts where i put a URL in....oops!

i haven't been on the forums long...nor have i been an e-cig smoker long. i know what i like to smoke though. i'm a huge fan of hookah. i don't go too often because after a night of hookah i feel very light-headed lol. however, after i tried my ecig the first time, i immediately thought it tasted like a hookah. with all the variety of fruity flavors at our disposal, i think that a hookah style design would be amazing. i've spent hours thinking up a design and i realized there are certain things you can't get around in terms of creating an "e-hookah". firstly, is the drug connotation. i don't want anymore bad rap coming down on ecigs. secondly, is the actual design. it seems there would be a decent amount of wasted space in creating one of these bad boys (at least if someone uses my design). thirdly, i'm not tech savvy enough to try and make one. if one of you fine people would take on the project, i'd be super thrilled!

here's a real hookah..
****if you type in mini hookah under google images you'll see a mini hookah with a black hard case.

here is a blueprint
****wikipedia "hookah" has a schematic picture of a hookah.. listing all parts and such

My 'vision' is this:
an E smoking device that has the most ridiculous amount of smoke ever with the a nice long battery life. it would stand at about a foot tall with a 2-3 foot long hose, and a nice hard case.

here's my breakdown using the pictures above as reference:
****again sorry for no pictures!

Bowl = Battery. the whole bowl would be the battery. it's a large battery for a large order vaping device. to add to the realism, just as how we have LED at the end of ours, i would like a round, circular, black lump of charcoal right in the middle. it would have a few, small red/orange LEDs that would glow every time someone takes a drag. not too many because i dig the realism. on a real hookah the whole bowl can come off..same case for the battery bowl. makes for an easy charge and replacement

okay that was the easy part...this is where it gets tricky..i've made maybe 3-4 different placement positions for both atomizer and carts...AND whether or not to have the vaper actually go through water like a real hookah. (i know the smoke will make it's way through the water...i made a very makeshift version of this idea. kinda hurt the throat a bit though)

i'll present my 2 best ideas

V1
valve = cart or juice etc... this seems to be the most practical place to put it. i've racked my brain trying to think of a way to put it inside the hookah but gravity and ease of access comes into play and this is just the best solution.

somewhere in the body = atomizer. notice, there is a huge HUGE amount of room to play with here. just throw in two screwdrivers and we're good to go haha.

this option allows you to either use or not use water.
the pros of water are you get the bubbly sound like a hookah
the cons...it probably lessens the potency and kills the vapor...

V2
right under the removable bowl is where you put your cart or juice etc...
and under that is where you put your atomizer...
this design allows gravity to pull down the juice towards the atomizer. how do you power the atomizer if the cart is in between the atomizer and battery? simple! you have a large enough space where you can just line some wires or whatever down one side.

this version does NOT allow for the use of water.

....
....

anyway that is my idea. also, my first, large post to this forum. i know this idea will sound absolutely horrible to some and hopefully better to others. i would love to hear someone add to this idea and possibly create it one day. anyway...enough of my mindless rant. happy vaping! :)
