If your using a Mech mod, then I'd suggest 30ga kanthal. If you using a VV/VW device then I'd go with 32ga.
Thanks Foxman. I don't have a Mech mod just yet... also waiting on one that will take both an 18650 and a kick. The Kicked Curve, or something similar is what I'm saving up for as my next purchase.

Question on SS coils, it is bad to have the bottom of the coil touch the tank. The reason I ask is that the battery life goes quickly using 9 watts compared to 7 watts on my carto's and clearo's, like 2 hours compared to 12 hours. Seems weird to me and wondering if its the coil grounding out causing excessive wattage to be used for less vapor production.

Short answer is YES, lol. I make mine short enough to NOT touch the tank. The tank on Gennisis tanks ARE metal. I know theres a difference in ?Mods also. My Vamo can go 6+ hours on a 18650. My CVI goes about 4.5 hours on the same battery. The more Watts you run the more batt life it uses. The lower a res ohm rating, the higher batt drain you have. The higher the amp draw you have on a device the faster a batt will drain. There are SO MANY things to consider that it can get confusing as a newby, lol I've been vaping Exclusively for over a year and learn new stuff everyday, lol

I not sure since I’ve always kept my wick off the bottom. I would however think that, if it is, you would notice since a short of that kind would greatly increase your resistance. If you’re using something that displays resistance just check it a few times while under load. Another thing to try If you know the resistance then set your device to voltage and set the voltage to equal your 9 watts, if you battery life increases then I would say the wick touching the bottom is a problem. That kinda what makes the power setting so good, it hides a lot of the things that drive you crazy. Let us know what you come up with, I’m curious.

Here is what I found, I couldn't check the resistance while vaping. The display goes dead as soon as the fire button is pressed. But immediately after a long vape I check the resistance and it is the same resistance of 1.5 ohms. I changed to voltage mode and vapped with 3.6 volts and the battery drained just as quick. 2 hours using a 900 mah battery. So I snipped a little of the end so it doesn't touch the bottom of the tank. Again it drained just as fast.

Well to make a long story short. It is the tank construction, I should have bought a AGA-T2+, the one I bought was by the same company (UD) that makes the AGA-T2+. This one is a convertible tank to dripper called the AGI. There is a small spring that causes a loss of voltage in the shaft. Well my lesson learned, the spring is only used in tank mode. I guess I am in the market for an AGA-T2+ now. This makes a beautiful dripper on a VAMO, but a poor excuse for a genesis style tank.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at the AGI now i know not to waste my money

V,

I finally got the AGI fixed today. I will see if it is a good permanent fix after a few weeks of vaping. I have bypassed the spring and only use the spring as a holder for my connecting rod. I stuck a small piece of copper in the spring so that it pushed down on the center post and when the top screwed onto the glass the copper pushes into the hole for the spring. It changed the final resistance down 0.4 ohms. My coil changed from 1.5/1.6 ohms to 1.1/1.2 ohms (sometimes the VAMO reads Lo ohms when the battery gets down to or bellow 3.5 volts). I was always wondering why with 3/4 wrap using 32 gauge kanthal wire the coil was 1.5/1.6 ohms. Turns out my 4/5 wraps would have probably been good.

Now that I found that out, I think many of my coils before would have been usable but not great. The last coil made was perfect not even a little hot spot, wraps are perfectly spaced, wraps are very tight. I guess having a bad tank setup helped me learn faster in making great coils. Just to get a working coil in that situation of having a bad tank made me trying to make a super coil (well at least for me). Now I get lots of great flavor and vapor production, well the flavor might be because I have but 4 or 5 tanks through the wick.

Just how hard is it to convert from dripper to tank?

Its not hard to get it ready for dripping but it takes some time and tools, you must remove the top piece by unscrewing it then you can remove the existing coil and wick. Plug the hole with a screw, then attach a dripping coil/wick to the center post and grounding post. Its not too hard to switch back and forth BUT, its much easier to have a dripper and a genesis tank. Its ok if you want to have a tank setup for a week or so and then switch to a dripper for a week or so, but don't plan on going back and forth in less than 10 minutes and you need some tools.
