You would probably not recognize the benefits of a mod with a vivi nova. I would suggest a good starter rda like the iGo-L. There are many YouTube videos on how to build and use. I have two of the m16 clones and they work really well. I pretty much use them at home exclusively with the rda's. The "RBA" portion of the form has some good info. You will learn a lot especially if you like to tinker. 'How many' wraps equal 'How much Ohms' etc. You will need a device to check resistance and always exercise safety.

Agreed IGO-L is so easy to rebuild
and the flav is so good I cant use my clear's anymore

you can get them at fast tech for $8

you can get all the info you need in the Rebuildables section in ECF

The only advice that didn't work out was many say to drill out the hole to1/16 for better flav
but I get better flav with stock hole by far

Just to make things clear. A Vivi Nova is a clearomizer. It has replaceable atomizer heads, and apparently some people rebuild the wire coils in these.

An RBA/RDA (rebuildable atomizer/rebuildable drip atomizer) are more advanced delivery devices which will not work unless you are able to make your own wicks and wire coils. This will require using a digital multimeter in order to measure the resistance of the coils you make.

An RBA uses a tank to hold e-liquid. An RDA has no tank, the juice will be contained only with how much the wick itself can hold.

Is it a carto, a tank, or what?

I just got an IGO T yesterday, its got the dual coil set up and the post with hole capture for the wires. Small, but easy to use and gives a great vape. 25 bucks, but well worth it IMHO.

The trident by grand vapor is also a good rda. Since you are new to this, trident style rda will be best since it has adjustable air holes unlike many others where you have to bore it out.

By trident I mean trident clone since your mod is a clone. It would be silly if your atty is 5 times the price of your mod.

I just picked up a trident and a nemesis mod but I don't have a ohms meter yet and the stock coils in the trident don't even glow but do produce a small amount of vapor. I'm guessing I can't or shouldn't use my new toy until I find a meter? Does it make sense that the stock coils don't heat up?

Not sure what to tell you about your coil but from what I've read countless times, you are playing with fire (pun intended) if you're using mods and RBAs with no ohm meter. It's like driving a high performance race car and not knowing what kind of gas is in the tank or what your air/fuel ratio is. You *could* be ok or you *could* make a huge, potentially dangerous mess.

Edit - you can get a good, cheap meter for checking resistance at any Radio Shack or auto parts store, Sears has them also. You don't necessarily need the "ohm checker" you see on PBusardo's videos and what not. Personally, I just use my MVP V2 or Vamo :)

You shouldn't fire a coil that you don't know the ohm measurement. That's not a safe practice. More than likely the resistance is too high, but there could be a short in your setup, too. Don't use this setup until you have a multimeter and learn how to use it.

What batteries are you using? The type you're using, knowing their specs, and knowing the resistance of the coil are critically important for the safe use of your RDA. Pulling more amps from your battery than it can safely deliver is very dangerous.

The coil that came on it says 1.7 on my sigelie vmax. But that would be the combined of the 2 coils? Wouldn't my vmax tell me it has a short when tested on that Instead of giving me the resistance?
I have no intentions of trying to rebuild until I get the meter and I never thought of that ever. It came pre coiled so I thought I would enjoy it long enough to purchase a meter.

I would think the ZMax would indicate if there was a short present by presenting an error code or refusing to fire the coil. Your mechanical should be able to fire a 1.7 ohm coil rather easily and make good vapor. This makes me wonder if something's up with the mechanical mod.

I can't imagine what could be wrong with the mech mod, isn't just a metal tube with a button on bottom? I tried different batteries: sigelei 18350 3.7v 900 mah - sigelei 18650 3.7v 2200 mah and a Panasonic ncr18650b 3400 mah 3.7v
Would I be safe rebuilding it and testing with the zmax?

Like baditude stated earlier, Please check your resistance before you fire any RBA/DA/TA or whatever, you don't know is there a short or your battery could handle the given resistance or not. You wouldn't want an accident to happen, Your hand, face, room, or house are in danger if you exercise it with no caution. :(

Ok, I'll wait, I don't want any problems, it's a real shame the zmax can't measure below 1.3

The only thing I'll say about those ohm checkers is that they are convenient, purpose-built, and make a good base for me when I'm re-coiling my rebuildables.
Other than that, they are a device that only has one function at a price that can buy you something that does resistance and more.

I do both RBAs (living room vaping) and Top Coil Vivi Novas (on the go pocket vape).

The RBA can be a juice hog for sure, and I have to pay close attention to my batteries and whatnot for safety. When playing with this stuff I find a good pass-through is worth the investment (safer...no battery fuss...)

The Vivi Nova set-up has a small sweet spot and doesn't like more than 5 to 8 watts...I need PWM with a Kick to keep it tuned in for a good all day pacifier style vape. The up side is low juice use (I do higher nic with these tho), and I don't need to carry around nearly as many batteries to keep it in the sweet spot.

Without the kick on a Vivi Nova...I'd wind for a sweet spot around 3.4 volts and take the battery off the charger early (around 3.8v)...or you could wind up with a build that tastes like toast on a fresh battery, is nice in the middle...and a useless flavored air straw when the battery voltage drops. The 3.4 under load range in most batteries I've come across is sustained far longer than the 4.2 volts it has right off the charger. Also without a kick, I'd double the number of batteries I normally carry.
