Was verbally assaulted in a restaurant parking lot for taking a vape on my rda that admittedly was a bit bigger than norm. I understand and practice the art of discrete vaping but for one vaper to publicly draw attention to an after meal vape 100 feet from the building is going overboard. We don't need to do this to each other for one, and secondly even flavor junkies produce larger clouds than most store bought attys and tanks.....................

Really sorry to hear about this negative accousting from other vapers in a parking lot. You were more than justified in being upset. It would not surprise me if it was someone who posts on this forum. There are some vapers here on ECF who see vaping as being the same as smoking and that we need to hide in dark corners and never be seen vaping. ANTZ's (anti nicotine & tobacco zealots) love vapers who take this view.

If I got this straight, they were upset that you were blowing clouds, outdoors, in a parking lot?

That's just asinine.

While I don't vape in stores, you can be darn sure I'm having a vape or two on the way in and out of the store (I don't like leaving my gear in my car on a hot day).

I'm sorry you were confronted with that OP because from where I sit, with the information you provided in your post, it seems that those people who complained about your vape were being judgmental jerks & nothing more. I don't know what you look like of course but I wonder if their reaction to you had more to do with your appearance & their assumptions about what "kind" of vaper you are rather than about what they witnessed you doing. If some cute little grandma type woman blew the same cloud using the same set up I wonder if they'd have reacted the same way.

Don't take it personally. There's not much you can do about those type of people other than ignore them.

I always wonder about this, appearance, I've never had any problems or confrontations about my vaping. I don't stealth vape ever, I normally only vape where I'd smoke in public, I have however seen others get looked at funny or asked to stop for no good reason. However, I'm 6 foot 3, solid 240 and legally armed.

Actually the other day had some one walk through my cloud in the parking lot at my complex, they turned and attempted to look at me crazy- I looked right back, and before I could say anything my 9 year old daughter said "why they mad ? All this street, they could have walked on the other side- besides it just water vapor" yeah, they kept it movin'. Funny thing is I seen them later while taking out trash and they were smokers.

I mostly sub-ohm, only way I get flavor I like, not really worried about my clouds or what anyone else thinks of them. I'm not vaping in the theatre, store or mall etc. I'm not sneaking or stealth or intentionally blowing it your way. I'm respectful but I'm also a grown ... man, so if it isn't hurting you or anyone else mind ya bidness.

I couldn't care less about these vape snobs.... I was shopping with my wife in Safeway tonight and vaped away when the isle was quiet lol. And not once did anyone say anything or give me a funny look. Was using an mvp 2 with a cheap boge carto and tank and of course not blowing clouds, but pretty good vapor.

Depends on my mood I would have a few unkind words most likely. Or just shrugged it off and tell them to mind their own business.

If we don't vape in public it will never be accepted. This technology has been around for a while now.

I agree. The main reason I wonder about the appearance thing is because I do believe some who have these sorts of incidents might present an image that alarms certain people. When i was young older women often felt the need to treat me with suspicion. Sometimes they did it in a "covert" kind of way but often they were outright about it & did accuse me of things they suspected I might be doing. Now that I'm in my 40s people don't give a flying fig what I'm doing. Now that I have kids running around with me wherever I go I think they're just happy my kids aren't running amok & they don't concern themselves with my vaping practices (lol).

That said, I think it sucks now as much as I thought it sucked when it happened to me when I was younger. But the fact is that there is nothing you can do to change those type people other than ignore their ignorance & go about your life.

Got a lot of the looks and pre judgement throughout different parts of my as well. Strangely for no real reason. Never really let it affect what I was doing or going to do. I learned a long time ago some people just don't want to see you happy or enjoying yourself. When they can make it crappy for you then they're happy, just seems like there's more people like that these days.

But that ain't none of my business.

I am sorry you had trouble. Some people look at me funny when I vape and then stick the thing into my pocket. Like it was on fire, or something. I never vape where there are "no smoking" signs. Except, for the "non-smoking" casinos in Florida, they like me vaping, and gambling. I have gotten a few interested people there ask about vaping. And I inform them of the health and cost savings. They are usually smokers who have to go outside. They don't sell real cigs in the casino, but, two, do sell e-cigs! The "non-smoking" casinos like people to vape!

Other vapers should be glad to find someone actually vaping in their vicinity. Maybe there's a forum somewhere that teaches its members to cloak it and hide it. That's kind of weird. What we'd like to see is curious smokers who walk up and ask us about it, then ditch the cigarettes as they discover vaping. Anyone who disses vaping doesn't understand it or wants to keep it secret. Why would anyone want to cloak something that can save lives?

Sorry for opening a can of worms on this subject.

Myxl, I feel for you, and you need not apologize for letting us know that this kind of situation can occur. Furthermore, I like that you recognize a knee-jerk reaction when you see it in yourself. That helps me prepare myself to stay calm if I am approached by unfriendly vapers.

That sucks this happened. I sub-ohm in public but am always sure never to do it within a distance of another person so my exhale doesn't even get close to them. Never been confronted, but sure do get a lot of questions like 'Can you put your (OTHER STUFF) in there?' 'Can I hit that brah?' etc. You know, cause (OTHER STUFF) is legal here in Colorado now. Especially on a college campus...

Most people are just fascinated with it out here and are happy to hear that it got me off of cigarettes. Also had comments of how good it smells (that Festival makes it smell like someone just baked some amazing goodies).

If it happens again, just tell them they are silly and keep on truckin'.

We don't need to do this to each other for one, and secondly even flavor junkies produce larger clouds than most store bought attys and tanks. I was using a 1.5 ohm tricro build in an atomic rda on a regular vision spinner. These people acted like I was chasing clouds in the dining area. I tried to be calm and explain to the group that public vaping is perfectly acceptable in a parking lot, but I soon lost my head and brought out my k101 topped with dual parallel .21 Zenith with a large bore tip and blasted away. I got just as dumb as they were and feel shameful for my behavior but really I'm mostly annoyed about the division of the vaping community.

I'm starting to think that the lack of education about vaping even within our own community is becoming too wide spread. So many new converts from tobacco aren't taking the time to learn about the history and etiquette of vaping. I've been at this a long time and remember when it was rare to meet a fellow hobbyist in the arts of mod and coil building. The past couple of years have really launched the craftsmanship boom to vaping as a hobby but it also mainstreamed the effectiveness of using this as a cessation aid to smoking. I hope for our sake that we can bridge this gap before it tears us apart and we lose our choice to keep this as a hobby.

Were you "stealth" vaping in the restaurant? If so, is it possible that this is part of what they took exception to?

Given the number of vapers who come here and brag about accosting other vapers for vaping in public (albeit actually in public and not just in the public view) I'm amazed this is the first time I've seen the other side of the story.

If someone bugs me for my public vaping (which generally amounts to walking up to stores or standing around with smoking friends, same as smoking did) they'd better hope I'm in a good mood.
