Lyrics:

Met myself a comin' county welfare line.
I was feelin' strung out, hung out on the line.
Saw myself a goin', down to war in June.
All I want, all I want is to write myself a tune.

Wrote a song for ev'ryone,
Wrote a song for truth.
Wrote a song For ev'ryone
And I couldn't even talk to you.

Got myself arrested, wound me up in jail.
Richmond 'bout to blow up, communication failed.
If you see the answer, now's the time to say.
All I want, all I want is to get you down and pray.

Wrote a song for ev'ryone,
Wrote a song for truth.
Wrote a song for ev'ryone
And I couldn't even talk to you.

(guitar solo)

Wrote a song for ev'ryone,
Wrote a song for truth.
Wrote a song for ev'ryone
And I couldn't even talk to you.

Saw the people standin' thousand years in chains.
Somebody said it's diff'rent now, look, it's just the same.
Pharoahs spin the message, 'round and 'round the truth.
They could have saved a million people, How can I tell you?

Wrote a song for ev'ryone,
Wrote a song for truth.
Wrote a song For ev'ryone
And I couldn't even talk to you.

Lyrics:

Chorus:
Keep on chooglin
Keep on chooglin
Keep on chooglin
Chooglin,
Chooglin.

Maybe you dont understand it.
But if youre a natural man,
You got to ball and have a good time
And thats what I call chooglin.

Here comes mary lookin for harry,
She gonna choogle tonight.
Here comes louie, works in the sewer,
He gonna choogle tonight.

Chorus

(primal screaming)

Chorus

If you can choose it, who can refuse it,
Yall be chooglin tonight.
Go on, take your pick, right from the git go,
You gotta choogle tonight.

Chorus

(more screaming)

Oh, were creedence!
Clearwater!
Revival!

The Outlaws are a Southern rock / country rock band best known for their 1975 hits "Green Grass and High Tides" and "There Goes Another Love Song" .

The song is one of their best known, and has received extensive play on album-oriented radio stations, although it was never released as a single. The song is notable for having two extended guitar solos that stretch the song.

"Green Grass and High Tides" is the tenth and final track on the band's debut album, Outlaws. It was written by Hughie Thomasson.

Members :

Hughie Thomasson (guitars, vocals, pedal steel guitar, banjo)
Henry Paul (guitars, vocals)
Billy Jones (guitars, keyboards, vocals)
Franck O'Keefe (bass)
Monte Yoho (drums, percussion)

Lyrics :

In a place you only dream of, where your soul is always free
Silver stages, golden curtains, filled my head plain as could be
As a rainbow grew around the sun, all my stars above, who died
Came from somewhere beyond the scene you see
These lovely people played just for me

Now if I let you see this place where stories all ring true
Will you let me past your face to see what's really you
It's not for me I ask this question as though I were a king
For you have to love, believe and feel
Before the burst of tambourines take you there

Green grass and high tides forever
Castles of stone, soul and glory
Lost faces say we adore you
As kings and queens bow and play for you

Those who don't believe me, find your souls and set them free
Those who do, believe and know that time will be your key
Time and time again I've thanked them for a peace of mind
That helped me find myself amongst the music and the rhyme
That enchants you there

Green grass and high tides forever
Castles of stone, soul and glory
Lost faces say we adore you
As kings and queens bow and play for you
Yeah they play just for you

Well, another day, another dollar, after I've sang and hollered
Oh, it's my way of living and I can't change a thing
Another town is drawing near oh, baby, I wish you were here
The only way I can see you, darlin', is in my dreams

It's a highway song, you sing it on and on, on and on

Well, the hurt you leave behind, it's the hurt that's on your mind
Oh, and last night's show took its toll on me
Well the city lights fly by me, as I lay my body in my bed
Oh, and dreams of you dance through my head

It's a highway song, you sing it on and on, on and on
Highway song is as lonely as the road I'm on

It's those big wheels that are ready to roll, we've been flyin' high and so low
Lord, and all this madness, ain't as crazy as it seems
Everywhere, they stop and stare, I'm just a stranger on this road
Oh, I stand alone, only in my dream

Highway song, you sing it on and on, on and on
Highway song is as lonely as the road I'm on

Highway song, you sing it on and on, on and on
Highway song is as lonely as the road I'm on, oh oh

Good Morning Everyone!!

Walking on velvet green. Scots pine growing.
Isn't it rare to be taking the air, singing.
Walking on velvet green.
Walking on velvet green. Distant cows lowing.
Never a care: with your legs in the air, loving.
Walking on velvet green.
Won't you have my company, yes, take it in your hands.
Go down on velvet green, with a country man.
Who's a young girls fancy and an old maid's dream.
Tell your mother that you walked all night on velvet green.
One dusky half-hour's ride up to the north.
There lies your reputation and all that you're worth.
Where the scent of wild roses turns the milk to cream.
Tell your mother that you walked all night on velvet green.
And the long grass blows in the evening cool.
And August's rare delight may be April's fool.
But think not of that, my love,
I'm tight against the seam.
And I'm growing up to meet you down on velvet green.
Now I may tell you that it's love and not just lust.
And if we live the lie, let's lie in trust.
On golden daffodils, to catch the silver stream
that washes out the wild oat seed on velvet green.
We'll dream as lovers under the stars ---
of civilizations raging afar.
And the ragged dawn breaks on your battle scars.
As you walk home cold and alone upon velvet green.
Walking on velvet green. Scots pine growing.
Isn't it rare to be taking the air, singing.
Walking on velvet green.
Walking on velvet green. Distant cows lowing.
Never a care: with your legs in the air, loving.
Walking on velvet green.

Don't want to be a fat man,
people would think that I was
just good fun.
Would rather be a thin man,
I am so glad to go on being one.
Too much to carry around with you,
no chance of finding a woman who
will love you in the morning and all the night time too.

Don't want to be a fat man,
have not the patience to ignore all that.
Hate to admit to myself half of my problems
came from being fat.
Won't waste my time feeling sorry for him,
I seen the other side to being thin.
Roll us both down a mountain
and I'm sure the fat man would win.

Meanwhile back in the year One --- when you belonged to no-one ---
you didn't stand a chance son, if your pants were undone.
`Cause you were bred for humanity and sold to society ---
one day you'll wake up in the Present Day ---
a million generations removed from expectations
of being who you really want to be.

Skating away ---
skating away ---
skating away on the thin ice of the New Day.

So as you push off from the shore,
won't you turn your head once more --- and make your peace with everyone?
For those who choose to stay,
will live just one more day ---
to do the things they should have done.
And as you cross the wilderness, spinning in your emptiness:
you feel you have to pray.
Looking for a sign
that the Universal Mind (!) has written you into the Passion Play.

Skating away on the thin ice of the New Day.

And as you cross the circle line, the ice-wall creaks behind ---
you're a rabbit on the run.
And the silver splinters fly in the corner of your eye ---
shining in the setting sun.
Well, do you ever get the feeling that the story's
too damn real and in the present tense?
Or that everybody's on the stage, and it seems like
you're the only person sitting in the audience?

Skating away on the thin ice of the New Day.

Have you seen Jack-In-The-Green?
With his long tail hanging down.
He sits quietly under every tree ---
in the folds of his velvet gown.
He drinks from the empty acorn cup
the dew that dawn sweetly bestows.
And taps his cane upon the ground ---
signals the snowdrops it's time to grow.

It's no fun being Jack-In-The-Green ---
no place to dance, no time for song.
He wears the colours of the summer soldier ---
carries the green flag all the winter long.

Jack, do you never sleep ---
does the green still run deep in your heart?
Or will these changing times,
motorways, powerlines,
keep us apart?
Well, I don't think so ---
I saw some grass growing through the pavements today.

The rowan, the oak and the holly tree
are the charges left for you to groom.
Each blade of grass whispers Jack-In-The-Green.
Oh Jack, please help me through my winter's night.
And we are the berries on the holly tree.
Oh, the mistlethrush is coming.
Jack, put out the light.

The old Rocker wore his hair too long,
wore his trouser cuffs too tight.
Unfashionable to the end --- drank his ale too light.
Death's head belt buckle --- yesterday's dreams ---
the transport caf' prophet of doom.
Ringing no change in his double-sewn seams
in his post-war-babe gloom.

Now he's too old to Rock'n'Roll but he's too young to die.

He once owned a Harley Davidson and a Triumph Bonneville.
Counted his friends in burned-out spark plugs
and prays that he always will.
But he's the last of the blue blood greaser boys
all of his mates are doing time:
married with three kids up by the ring road
sold their souls straight down the line.
And some of them own little sports cars
and meet at the tennis club do's.
For drinks on a Sunday --- work on Monday.
They've thrown away their blue suede shoes.

Now they're too old to Rock'n'Roll and they're too young to die.

So the old Rocker gets out his bike
to make a ton before he takes his leave.
Up on the A1 by Scotch Corner
just like it used to be.
And as he flies --- tears in his eyes ---
his wind-whipped words echo the final take
and he hits the trunk road doing around 120
with no room left to brake.

And he was too old to Rock'n'Roll but he was too young to die.
No, you're never too old to Rock'n'Roll if you're too young to die.
