Ok sorry guys, I know this has been asked before but I can't seem to find a thread not sure if it was in the Reo forum of the ecf forum.
How do we clean a wood mod for regular maintenance? How do you clean a wood mod after a major spill on the inside? One of the things I love about the Reo Grand is being able to rinse it under running water :2cool: obviously I can't do that with the wood mod. Thanks folks and Happy Holidays

I do pride myself in my care of the wood REO's. Howard's Feed and Wax is the recommended wax for our REO's. You can also buy the one with the UV protection. Some of our exotic woods will turn to a different color when exposed to UV.

Apply the wax to all surfaces, even inside. I use a Q-tip to reach all the nooks and crannies! It is best to allow the wax to dry. This might take as long as 24 hours. I am always impatient and get to the buffing sooner.

Waxing our woods not only makes them look beautiful, it gives them protection against spills. Any juices will wipe off instead of soaking in on contact.

Always remember if you are storing or shipping a REO to remove the bottle and fully clean the tubing. Make sure there is no juice on any wood surface. Juices can penetrate the wood and cause damage to the finish.

This stuff seems to be popular. I should get a bottle.

I don't think the stabilized wood mods can be cleaned and pampered with traditional wood polishes/waxes, though.

When I first received my Stabilized Woodvil I contacted Rob for care instructions. He told me the Howard's was fine to use. I have applied it to mine several times. I am more than happy with the results!

Well, I knew Gil had a mishap with his Nebula's finish but I don't recall what product he used. Luckily, Rob was able to restore it. Thanks for the clarification!

Thanks for the tips everyone. But say your juice has a major leak inside the mod, how would you clean that? Obviously I can't just hold it under running water like the Grand or the mini, so how do you get it really clean if there is a mess inside. Also no running water for the juice reservoir so how do you clean that cup thoroughly? Nerak pretty much answered my question but what if the spill is between the wires or the cup gets sticky and dirty? Thanks

Also...after a major spill, make sure you mop up the majority of the juice....but we have found sticking the mod in a ziplock with rice has been helpful in drawing the moisture out of the wood. Nothing is perfect, but its helpful.

Thank you rhapsodies fire, but that's exactly what I mean. Mop it up with what? Just tissues?Does the wood retain the smell since it can't be rinsed?

I have used a dry then damp paper towel to clean inside. After the sticky mess is gone then dry. I have a old t-shirt that I use.
For the drip well, I use a q-tip soaked in water. You can, if careful, run a little water through the top of the well and just let it drip out the tubing into a cup. I do this if I get a used REO that needs the juice removed. The little drops of water don't soak in if wax was applied. Never had juice get on the wires, but I would just wipe it off before it dried.

For the juice well I use a dropper full of vodka and drip it into the well. It cleans and sanitizes the well and the tube and gets rid of any old juice that remains.

Genius!!!! I was thinking more along the lines of a syringe with alcohol. I have a few eye droppers in the toolbox that will be put to use now.

And mlinky..... the cheese cloth with charcoal...... the rice...... who thinks of these things?!?!?!?
I love You Guys
Happy Holidays
