Definitely sounds like you popped the coil.
:(

Dry burning at 4.8 volts is very risky, as you've found out.
I never dry burn any higher than 3.7 volts, and I have never popped a coil in over three years of dry burning.

Also, at 3.7 volts I don't have to worry about "pulsing" either.

Yeah, it's dead and gone. Feel like having a little service for it; you are all invited.

Must have missed the info on the 3.7 volts. Thought I read everything carefully. But nothing would get that nasty taste and black stuff off the atty. So I tried the dry burn. Is there a list somewhere of what kind of juices that will muck up an atty? I am so new to this I have no idea. Even when ordering a juice from a vendor, I have no way of knowing if it will be dark or light. I think I read somewhere high VG juices aren't good for an atty, but I may have misunderstood. Do I have to just blow through attys to figure this out? I will figure this out somehow. Just thought I would come right to the pros. Don't know where else to learn more about this. Read Ocelot's blog on dripping, too.

Thanks for your help. I am sure I will be back soon with more questions.

Hey Shari, I think it may be kaput. How long did you let the coil glow for? I think the problem is that you stressed a dry coil and it popped. Did you hear anything when dry burning? I generally don't dry burn unless I've used a liquid with particulate matter (natural tobaccos), so a blow out usually works the best with the least amount of stress. Now, if using a liquid that adheres to the atty like herpes, then I'll do a soak of sorts, but I generally stay away from those type of juices. If I do dry burn, it's maybe once every blue moon, but I don't dry burn bridge free attys as those tend to be a little less able to bounce back (IME).

I think that type of atty may be best if used in conjunction with an drip shield.

So sorry, but I am going to have to pass the baton to someone else as I have to leave the house right now...

No popping sound, but vapor was still coming off it. Not long either. My spinner only lets it stay on I think several seconds. Only did that a few times then quick pulsed it a few. I will learn.

Thanks for your response.

What are your favorite flavors? BWB has started a color rating scale for all their juices which I think is a remarkable idea. It also will let you know (approximately) how long the juices should steep for. Oh, and VG juices are 100% fine for attys; now for other types, maybe not generally as much (cartos, clearos, CE#s, ViVis and the like).

That's the problem. I don't know yet what flavors I like. Only been vaping since Saturday. I bought a motherlode of juices (17 bottles of various brands/flavors)off the classifieds so I would have steeped juices to start with and all the MBV stuff had like 3-5 extra flavor shots and are unvapeable to me. Have a few from Good e Juice and Ben Johnson OR 30 - have no clue what that is. Have a couple of Good Life Vapor and Fusion Unicorn Blood and Ecto Blast. Haven't had a chance to try those yet. And until I get some more attys I don't want to deal with Evod or ProTank to taste the other juices. So that mystery is currently on hold for a bit.

I am going to be off ECF for a few hours. I didn't sleep last night. Been in meltdown mode with this atty business. I will say something blasphemous - I have EC Blends Blubacco in my Evod now and like it. That's the only juice I have tried so far that I have enjoyed and can vape all day. It's 18nic and I need 24nic to not smoke. My first couple of days I went from 2 packs of Marlboro 100s reds to 2 cigarettes a day. Now I am smoking and it is upsetting me. This will pass. I will learn.

Hang in there. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/vapor-station/329822-free-liquid-samples-first-timers.html Post in that thread for free eliquid samples. Also, I can tell you if some of the samples you'd like are dark (if they're tobaccos).

Guess I got caught up in the more volts is better/more. When you are new to something it is harder to weed out the wheat from the chaff. I try to look for posts from experienced people but there are so many, and so many ways to do basicly the same thing. It's a journey.

Thank you all for your feedback. I'll keep reading and vaping and learning.

    I don't think Dripping is a dying breed:D
Just scare's some of us because we don't know what we're doing.
I've recently entered the field and am sold that there is no better way to get the flavor!
And it's much easier than I ever dreamed it would be; I won't mention what I use since it's

    LOL! :)

got my first dripping atty from smart vapes and i am really liking the whole dripping experience. my diy mixes that sucked in cartos and clearos are actually pretty good. is there a good beginners guide or video some place? changing flavors, cleaning and general how to get the most out of it. i keep getting dry hits off and on but when its on its great.

What's blasphemous? Lots of people like Evods. Get the juice you like in 24mg and enjoy it in the Evod! Keep working on the dripping if you like -- but not everyone loves it, and what's best is what helps you reduce or quit smoking, NOT what someone else thinks is the ideal delivery system.

Are the Vapage Hybrid Universal atomizers also known as the "Shifu" atomizers? I just picked up some Empire Mods LR attys but they are hitting kinda weird. I suppose they need to break in but most atomizers I've tried didn't vape like this in the beginning. Should I try the Avidvaper Cisco/Aero atomizers or just try to break these Empire Mod ones in? Or should I try the Smartvapes dripping atomizers? I just want some good attys... the Vapage ones were great but I think I messed them up by trying to dry burn when they were wet (from cleaning) and over heated them. They still work but they hit weird now too.

I only blow out the remaining gunk in drippin atties, never clean them and they last awhile doing this. I will be getting my SmartVapes 34mm Drippin Atties today (Ordered on the 3rd and shipped via First-Class Package Service...priority takes longer), I will let ya know how they perform next week.

Actually, EmpireMods attys start out great and IMO have diminished performance later. Oh, and don't hit them above 3.7 (maybe 3.8v max) or they'll be fried; also I never recommend dry burning bridge free attys (don't know why, but they seem to be less able to stand up to it). That is my experience with them. They hit great to start with tremendous flavor and performance; but that doesn't last. After a short while I always got reduced vapor output (whispy vapor), easy flooding (the mesh seems less absorbent), and more frequent dry hits. But once again, from jumpstreet they were all great.

Were you vaping on a VV or VW? What volts or watts did you have it set at?
