Meggers, just that we've been discussing having a 'pool' of themes for those who say "surprise me" or can't decide on one.

Also, alphanumeric stopped by the Thread this morning and turned (post count was low). There is a Welcome thread.

7. Women on motorcycles?
8. Tattoos?
9. Women with tattoos carrying guns on a motorcycle?

We could have nine.

Those are always a good ones. I haven't read back so...are we making a list that they have to choose from or a list to give them ideas? If there is no theme I always do women on motorcycles and depending on male or female...I gauge the pictures accordingly so as not to offend.

As to giving them the list to choose from, that's under discussion also . We've already posted some general areas to select from, if they still say 'surprise me', then giving a more specific list may not do any better. I vote for keeping it to ourselves and randomly picking from it for those times.

Remember that specific themes are always available to them. Like "Harley Davidson" or "Girls on Motorcycles"... or the ever popular "Cats", "Dogs" and "Unicorns and Rainbows"....

2) History of flight (balloons, planes, gliders, rockets, failed attempts, Da Vinci models, birds in flight)
3) Landscapes or Seascapes - This planet or elsewhere, but on-planet...not general space scenes
4) Animals wild or domestic. (Air, Land, or Sea)
5) Science fiction and/or fantasy (elves, fairies and dragons; not what you're thinking of Meggers - per TomCatt )
6) "Celebration" as a theme

AND THE OTHER THING........

If we're open to "surprise me" themes, like has been said before/above, we're going to get 100 of them a year....CES is correct that we should guide them to specific themes. It's just that "¡Hola!" can become "Adiós" and then we don't have a theme...

The real problem with the whole thing is that it can't be a surprise....exactly. We have to publish it on the list. Otherwise people won't know what to prep/post ahead of time. So if the pre-vet doesn't read the PVT, and doesn't read the list, and then just "shows up" 1/2 hour before their party, I guess it's a surprise. Meh.

That also kind of discourages them from participating on others' turnings before they turn because they "don't want to peek" or whatever.

Hi, my sweet Committee! I'm taking a break, but couldn't resist chiming in... I really, really think that if they want a theme, they can bloody come up with something... If not, we go with a general party--celebration--balloons theme. That's our default. Come on, guys, you're all being way too nice. Don't we work hard as it is???

What if you surprise someone with an aviation theme and they lost a family member in a plane crash? Or hate pets? Or almost drowned in a beautiful lake or river? Forget it...

HolaAmigos has withdrawn participation. She did get back to Sea, however the details are in a PM and there's no need to get into it. It doesn't appear to be exclusively whiskey related either.

These things happen. If HolaAmigos wishes to re-enlist, she can always come in and ask. People have as much right to withdraw as they do to sign up in the 1st place. The only reason Sea PM'ed her is that the whiskey ban thing was going on.

The other thing that can happen is that, if we let them have ANY default at all...even just the one, we're still going to have a bunch. How sick of balloons and party favors can you possibly get? Let's find out.......

Just say'n. Remember having a few to rotate through avoids monotony FOR US too.

Atty, we just say we don't do surprises--too tricky and we don't want to make a mistake. Come up with a theme or it's no theme turning. We DON"T NEED to have a theme.
