I just edited and added to my first post......"packing (note, not gasket as is included in rebuild kit)"

Unless someone has actually literally dug out the packing I doubt s/he even knows it is in there. I repeat.... it is NOT the gasket. It is packing and not part of rebuild kit.

I wonder if I can replace it myself... I have a shop press and am pretty competent usually lol.

Possibly. Robert told me how he removes the pressed in fitting but since I don't have the tools to reinstall the pressed in fitting REO is going to spa for Robert to do. I hesitated calling the "packing" a gasket as I did not want peeps to confuse it with the gasket used for user rebuild, in the kit.

Below is REO ready for a user rebuild, with user removable parts removed. The gasket that comes in rebuild kit goes in the hole. Note light colored "packing" circling hole. That is what I dug out on another REO. It was kind of like picking a scab. The moment I pried a chunk out I realized it was not supposed to be removed. Best to contact Robert and he can talk to you about.

I just cant beleive I found no info in my searching about rebuilding the reo and about this packing and not to touch it.
Wikepedia should have a reo exploited view... maybee ill have to post one lol.

Does this packing seal off the 510 pos post from leaking juice?

The "packing" probably has more than one function. One thing it does is give the user replaceable silicone gasket a firm but flexible backing; a housing of sorts.

Well, now we are sure at least two peeps have dug at that part. There may be more. Perhaps a mention about this should be included in official and nonofficial rebuild instructions.

BTW.. I totally disassembled my mother's electric sewing machine at age 5 yr. I wasn't punished but parent's did request I ask them first before taking things apart. Feisty (and still Curious) Alice

I can't speak for Rob but I have a connector ( the threaded piece that your attys screw into) that needs to be replaced. Rob advised me that its not an easy task and I should send it into him.

Yes... it would be a good idea for this to be mentioned in the rebuild vid... I naturaly have to tear down all my mechanical mods to see how they work and modify them if necessary and I thought this "packing" was remnants of the 510 post gasket because it wasnt mentioned anywhere.

That's exactly why I started "digging."

If you have removed the packing under the 510 connection you will need to send the mod in for repair . I dont sell 510 connections

Please put
a note with your email address and a brief description of the problem .Also
empty any e juice in the mod and remove the bottle .It helps to put a tissue
or napkin around the tube .

:lol::lol::lol:

I'm reasonably sure no one will believe me when I swear I've managed to put all information on a 3" X 3" piece of note paper stuffed inside the REOs that go to spa. And that's the truth.:p

There is also now a video on how to clean them - no doubt based upon my returning old Blackie back with a typically concise Trunker note: won't fire!

It was dirty was all

I'm much better now and melt anything i like with reckless abandon in the full knowledge that i can fix it and in a pinch - Rob can! Which is why i have 2 (ok i have a few more than that, but you get the idea) and why you should too!

After everyones gotten all excited over doing a total tear down rebuild are we sure its not just the tube leaking especially if its an older Reo with the smaller tube ????

Good point for everyone to try first. Not saying that's OP's issue. Just take tube off, snip bottom end straight across, flip over and put that end on nipple. Go from there. Almost half of my metal REOs have the original, old skinny tubes. I think I've maybe turned one upside down to extend it's life. Not that it split but when I put it back on, after it came off, it was not a tight fit. (But I think that was a Woodvil) I've never had any tube split, btw. I just don't understand how that happens. I actually prefer the small tube in the 3ml bottles as it leaves much more room for juice.

I checked the tube and the 510 was loose, gasket was old and deteriorated

It is a known issue that some attys can be screwed down too far into the pressed fitting damaging the gasket. Case in point, and I have the proof, is a not very old Coopervien VVG, from classies, that an ERA ver1 was used on without taking precaution to "lift" the overly long ERA threaded portion with an o-ring. (Seller disclosed this to me before purchase.) It's going into spa for button upgrade and rebuild. Luckily, I learned about the too long post and started using an o-ring to prevent damage when I first got my ver 1 ERAs. So age is not necessarily the only factor. And opposite "case in point," I'm currently using a Mini 1.0, relatively early release, with original skinny tube, used virtually constantly for well over two years. Not one leak or any sign of gasket wear or skinny tube breakdown. I'm going to be p i s s y here...... Just what does cause a tube to split? How come I've never had it happen? Very few peeps have been using REOs longer than I have. BTW.... the REO I dug the "packing" out of, by mistake, to do a rebuild, was one DH used for a long while and I know he was cranking the cartos down too hard and it was leaking at gasket but the damn skinny tube was fine. Also, he carried it in carry on bag, as spare, for a year, with long carto attached, crammed down amongst lots of stuff; lots of stresses on that fitting for months. Without leaking for months, and unused, all of a sudden it started leaking in the baggie.
