REO not working. Little sparks at battery and contact

Hy guys, so my ReO is not working. Was working fine, then it wasnt. The battery spring has gotten soft. When i press the button the metal part touches the battery but sometimes it makes little sparks. It works sometimes when i move the battery around, but im not sure whats going on. Any ideas?
My coil is 24 guage wrapped around a 18 guage needle 7 times for abt .5 ohms

any ideas what could be going on? Thanks

You need to use a metal file, & file the end of. The firing pin, then put a dab of noalox on it,
It should work fine then

Also if the spring is soft you might of had a short and should replace it.

yeah, the spring can get almost toasted but not quite, and then be kinda soft, so when the contact hits the top of the battery the spring allows the battery to push away from the top contact too easily and you wind up with bad contact on both ends. sounds like you compromised the spring somewhat. you can temporarily stretch the spring out a bit to increase tension back to what it should be but this isn't the best long term solution and may compromise the protection the spring provides to begin with, best to replace the spring

Just my observation but I put the dab of Noalox on the battery top not the firing pin. This keeps the pin submerged in the Noalox thus no spark/arc. I haven't had to file the pin since doing this on every battery change. Of course YMMV.
