I personally have never done it, but I think you need an adapter to make the reach from the tank connector to that of the REO. The juice well is too deep and not big enough in diameter to fit a tank in there. Be aware that using adapters improperly can cause a short to occur.

I am positive that someone has done it...and hopefully they'll pop in and talk about their experience.

Well... here's the extender I bought, and here's what happened:

The adapter instantly shorted the battery and collapsed the spring. I managed to pull the spring back up a bit, so it'll still sorta work until I can replace the spring. I'll only be using the Vivi Nova tank on my ego batteries from now on.

@Rhapsodies Fire: I couldn't help but notice you said "using adapters improperly", which made me think I might've done something wrong. Do you know of any tips to avoid causing a short?

Where you least expect it....
Not all adapters are made equal. Some will short out your APV's as you've already experienced. Which is why some people are not keen on using them. It might be the material used or how far the center post (connection) extends......not sure.

Sorry that happened, adapters suck IMO and I will never use one for any reason.
I'm wondering if you had eGo batts the whole time why you wanted to put a tank on your REO mini anyway ??

I wanted to put it on my Reo because I get more power from the 14500 batteries than the eGo batteries.

I tried it again (carefully) last night to see if maybe it was because I screwed the adapter in too tight. This time I actually saw a spark fly off from the top of the battery. I then proceeded to unscrew it and never try it again. :D

Just want to make sure you realize that once your spring collapses it will NOT collapse again! Using it puts you at risk for more damage to your REO, the firing pin and button if a short occurs.

Thats what I figured but I wasn't sure. Maybe time to pick up an eGo twist battery for just such a purpose.

You have a good point. I was being careful last night... one quick touch with the door open... one spark was enough to get my answer...

However, is there a risk of it shorting, say, while it's in my pocket? I wouldn't think it'd be possible to connect the circuit without lowering the firing pin. Therefore the only way I could cause damage would be if I held the firing pin down too long.

Nevertheless, I can't live in fear any longer, so I'm going to send it back to Rob for repair ASAP ;)

As I said above:

The only PVs I have are a few 650mah eGos and a Reo Mini. I've used the Reo Mini exclusively for the past year (and love it), but I've always been curious about tanks. So I just wanted to use the Vivi Nova on a 14500 battery since they pack slightly more punch than the eGos. (and I'd rather use my Mini anyway)

I waited on trying tanks specifically because I thought the old school punched-carto method seemed too cumbersome to bother with. Now that we have more user-friendly tanks like the Vivi Nova, I went for it.

I tried it on a friend's eGo Twist at 4.8v, and was mightily impressed. I like them and I wish I could use them on a Reo, but the adapter is too risky.

Maybe Rob will come up with a safe solution for Reonauts to experience both worlds... All we really need is a safe adapter. Besides, my Mini is showing its age... if I could safely use a tank on a Grand (or VV), I'd take the plunge.

But really, is it really that strange to want to use a tank on a Reo? I realize they're made for bottom feeding, but I like my Reo for more reasons than that. It's built tough, feels good in my hand, and beautifully constructed. I feel more comfortable holding my Reo than I do a long skinny metal stick thing. So why not have both options? Best of both worlds...
