But really, is it really that strange to want to use a tank on a Reo? I realize they're made for bottom feeding, but I like my Reo for more reasons than that. It's built tough, feels good in my hand, and beautifully constructed. I feel more comfortable holding my Reo than I do a long skinny metal stick thing. So why not have both options? Best of both worlds...

I guess I just don't understand why use a tank when it already has a reservoir  nothing against you. Maybe it's just me  I like simple and tough. I know I'd break a tank before I made it out the door in the morning :D

Nah...you're not weird... I had a hard time seeing the point to cartos too. But I get that they're easier for folks to adapt to than atomizers for a lot of people. Tanks? Well, I wouldn't do it on mine, but I know for certain that there are quite a few who have done it. But I know of no one who has kept it on their REO. :)

I can understand the desire to put a tank on a reo. I often screw un-reo-nish vaping stuff on them, if only to quickly check a flavor or device. Adapters aren't really bad as long as you just measure them before use. Everyone should have a multimeter anyway, so you can:
0) Screw Atomizer on adapter - check that the adapter center pole isn't protruding too far, if it is, don't use this adapter on anything, send it back to the vendor.
1) Remove battery
2) screw in adapter with atomizer (or tank, ...), don't overtighten
3) measure atomizer
4) insert battery
5) profit

To measure the adapter with the tank or atty, put your multimeter to show Ohms, put one lead to the spring screw or spring itself, put the other lead to the metal strip that is normally touching the battery plus terminal. The multimeter should now show sensible resistance (1,5 to 3 Ohms). If the adapter is shorted you will get < 1.5 Ohms, most likely around 0.5 Ohms.

I got used to the adapters I have and I am confident they won't short anything, I don't need to measure them everytime I use them. These work well so far: V2 510 Shorty Extension- Unsealed

Awesome, thanks for the tutorial.

I did the steps you provided, and sure enough, the adapter reads less than 1.5ohms. In fact, it reads closer to 0.0 ohms, and then jumps around like crazy. Sometimes it would hang out for a minute at a reasonable ohm rating, but not for long. Very unstable.

For kicks I tried removing the adapter and tried measuring straight to an atomizer. While it did jump around a little bit (my shaky hands), overall it averaged between 1.5 and 3.0.

Good test. I was looking at those MadVapes adapters last night and noticed there wasn't a single negative review. I guess they're trustworthy, so I'll give them a try.

I haven't used a tank on my VVG, but have been happy with regular cartos. A good 2.5 ohm filler-based carto, with a little priming from the top to first set it up, runs nicely with the bottom feed.

The advantage is that even though I've used atties a good amount for the past year, I can still over-feed, get a bit of drip out of the catch cup. With a carto when I squonk the eliquid tends to get absorbed in the carto filler, it acts like I have a 6 ml tank. I get no leaks from an over-filled catch cup. Not quite as good a vape as when using a pure atty, but handy at times.

DH splits his vape time between REO Mini with carto (until I can instruct and support him with RBAs to become an independent RBA user when he's out of town without his personal geekette on hand) and eGo Twist and Spinners with Mini ViVi Nova tanks. He frequently drops both onto hard floors, occasionally concrete, and rock base drive AND it's not unusual for him to return to his plane seat, where he stealth vapes in 1st class, twice a week, and plops down on one he's left in seat. He's never broken a REO with his "abuse" but his kill rate for Mini Vivi Nova tanks are about 1.0 to 2.0 a month (the plastic tube doesn't break rather the metal base and tall post deforms and they start leaking) and about one destroyed eGo battery every 1.5 months as they eventually separate at top fitting. (He likes the Twist better but the Spinners are tougher.) (BTW... we aren't rich.... his upgrades to 1st class are free and his destination and return flights rarely have all 1st class seats filled.) (And let's give the codger a break... he's 77.5 and is always trying to juggle too many things, in both hands, while moving about.)

You are going to lose an important benefit of the normal REO package putting a tank on one. That is extreme durability and toughness; near invincibility.

The ViVi nova tanks can give a good vape, granted, but lately when DH takes a toke on any of my REOs, with various RBAs, he tells me that he wants the better flavor my REOs with RBAs provide. And we use basically the same juice.

BTW... DH likes the shirt pocket friendless of the eGo for his always over stuffed shirt pockets. But they do slip out of his shirt pockets when he bends wayyyyyyyyyyyy over to pet our tiny 60lb Blue Heelers; yet more smacks onto hard flooring. (The girls are really short compared to our Doodles and Mastiff and DH is tall.) He carries his REO Mini in his scrub pockets so it doesn't take as many dives. (He wears scrub pants 360 days a year, 24 hrs a day, with lots of deep patch pockets.)

Besides the potential for shorts, using an adapter, you also add a point of more flexing of REO atty fitting with stresses from tall tank.

An adapter and extra REO springs, and shipping, in case of shorting from using an adapter will cost only a little less than a VV eGo battery. I've been using adapters here and there on my REOs for over two years and I've had a few shorts and even a couple of buttons that melted a bit. It's highly likely that a short will occur at some point. If you are willing to take the risk then more power to you. I have been willing to take the risk but I keep a supply of replacement springs on hand. I've sworn off using adapters on unregulated Wood REOs, though, as replacing the springs involves unsoldering the spring and soldering a new spring in.
