So, I wanted to go to walmart to get a few items. For the last 7 years I have avoided the highway and taken little snake trails to get there, even though the peaceful little highway 575 runs right to it.

I said I'm gonna take the highway. I first, get this, intentionally jumped on the highway going in the opposite direction. Drive two miles to the first exit, turned around and drove it right back and continued up the 3 miles further to walmart.

After walmart, I jumped back on the highway and when I got the three miles to my exit I KEPT GOING to the next exit, got off and turned around and drove back to my exit.

My motto - I'd rather die out on the road living my life than die in fear in my house.

Little milestones again today and more every day for this b it ch.

Thanks y'all and I'd be lyin like a dog if I said I didnt take a Valium about 30 minutes before I left :)

I feel great about this cause it's EPIC For me.

Reggae regulars was on my pandora :)

Great job Russ!
My wife had and in some situations still has many of the same issues you're struggling with. When we first started dating and even after we were married she was afraid to leave home, be in crowded places, elevators, and taking any kind of medications.
Even aspirin or prescribed antibiotics caused pure panic. There were many times I took her to the hospital and we would just sit in the parking lot when she needed to take a medication. She had to be there in case she had a reaction to the meds. She never did but that wasn't any help the next time meds were necessary. She was a no show on several job interviews when she got there (with my help) and found out they were on the 20th floor. She couldn't take the elevator. She was on Valium, clonopin (sp?) which she rarely took because of the fear of meds.
My point is she was able to overcome these fears by doing exactly what you are doing. Exposure therapy. With my support and encouragement she forced herself to face the fear and do the very things she was so afraid of over and over and over. It took a good deal of time to get over these fears. They still surface on occasion but she pushes through.
You have the right attitude now. Push through and you will be able to do anything.

What an amazing post - I am so glad you are on vacation now!

I have had issues since my cancer diagnosis, and prior to that, got weird about bridges and tunnels (and interstates and elevators and and and). My son was a minute away from the I-35 bridge collapse in Minnesota and I think that's when it started. Anyway.. I went to Florida last week for my 50th birthday and I managed to ride as a passenger in the front seat across the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and back again. Couldn't breath on the way across, but took pictures on the way back.

Thanks for all you do! Have a blast!

EDIT: I didn't read far enough and you're home already - start planning the next vacation :)

Russ, I've been away visiting my family in NC, so I missed all of this. I am so proud of you!!! Thank you for sharing with all of us, and continuing to share your milestones. The only thing I couldn't wrap my brain around - cheeseburgers instead of fresh fish???? LOL

But, that's me, I'm a die hard seafood lover. I always head straight for the seafood section of any menu! :)

OK a couple of thoughts here...

First, you have a fine looking family X and I'm glad you got to spend some time with them on vacation.

It good that you are able to get out, hitting the freeways is a major accomplishment. That being said you have me concerned that you computer time may go down and you won't be available to us when we have an issue. That sir will be completely unacceptable :)

It takes a lot of stones to get through that kind of stuff Russ. You are one tough basta_d and we are all here for support man. Keep kickin .....!

Thank you. I am blessed with this family. How I am lucky enough to have these awesome people in my life baffles me several times a day.

And my wife just pulled out of the driveway to leave for panama on business until Saturday :(. Thank god for my three kids. They keep me busy :)

No worries my brother, there are so many more knowledgeable folks up in here that I just sit back and read their stuff anymore and learn.

I could start naming names but the list grows longer every day.

I hope to always have something to say here, even if it's nothing more than to welcome new members, show pix of my awesome mods or bust a red wings fans ballz :)

Thank you and everyone else for making me feel so good with your words too :)

Let's rock this thing :)

In other news, my mom and grandpa are 5 weeks smoke free and vaping their VVGs like the freaks they are.

I've rewicked for them every week but next time ( this weekend) I'll be training them how to do it. I hate handling other people's mods :). I'm a clean freak :).

They have no idea how much vaping would suck without their REOs, a cyclone and a RM2 :)

Here I am. I took my kids and a friend of my daughters to walk around our outlets mall. Yes I drove the highway the one exit to get here :) :) :).

Unfortunately my wife said no. I'll work on her a little more when she returns from panama.

I'm of the mindset that replacing, what, my 7th Honda over the last 14 years with a muscular sedan will help me greatly :). The sound of that 5.7 was therapeutic :)
