Repairing potentially stripped threading on an APV??

Hey all, vaping enthusiast here but first post. Hello! :)

Ive got a huge box filled with eGos, batteries, chargers, clearos, atomizers, tanks, DCT's and APV's. I'm no stranger to vaping. But this issue has me stumped.

I own three APVs - A Segelei ZMax, an eVic and an Innokin iTaste SVD. The latter two are my preferences, but I like to use the ZMax here and there. Here it is:

it *seems* as though, somehow (as I'm very careful with my devices) the threading there got stripped. The reason I say *seems*
is because it accepts certain tanks, but not others. The following iClear30 and three Vivi Novas just spin when I attempt to screw them in:

however, my mini vivi and Kanger ProTank fit quite snuggly:

leading me to believe that the female threading on the ZMax isn't completely stripped.

I also attempted to fit an eGo/510 adaptor onto it, but that will not secure, either.

is there a way to order/replace new female threads for an APV such as this, or am I doomed? I was one of the first to own the ZMax and it seems a LOT of kinks have since been worked out since that time.

thanks for any and all input...

Problem is soft threading in the 510 connection. The first few threads are worn out. ProTank has a longer thread base and may be slightly more accurately machined.
If you wish to permanently install an adapter, Air flow regulator would look best, I can make one suggestion.

Choose your adapter.
Get a piece of PC speaker wire - the ultra cheapo thin wire. Strip and remove 1 copper strand to use.
Tightly wrap the wire into the threading of the adapter.
Using pressure push/thread the adapter into the 510 connection. The copper wire should help to get a bite and lock into place.

Assume this to be permanent and leave the adapter on the device.

Good luck. :)

hey guys, im new to vaping and i have a vamo coming to me in the mail. i heard that the 510 connector on it isnt that great so i want to put a adapter on there. when i went to a site to purchase a 510 to 510 extender adapter. theres also a 510 to ego adapter. which one should i get for the vamo? and does adding an adapter change anything performance wise?

Okay wow, I hadn't expected so many replies - and ones filled with such substance! Thank you, everyone.

At the moment, the copper wire seems to be the most feasible plan of action; I'm not quite sure what to do with that 7mm x 5? It looks like one end is threaded and the other has a quadrangular head that might accept,,say, an Allen wrench or something. I don't understand how a tank is going to fit on that?

Wait, where does one find that r2d2? I might have to change my entire plan for my first kit if I can hunt down an r2d2!

Right here :)

Right here :)

You use it to rethread the mod. It will rethread the stripped threads.

but wouldn't that widen the gap from one side of the circular hole to the other, my drilling into it? Forgive me for not understanding completely, but it seems as though I'd be further destroying what's left in there. Please do correct me if I am mistaken because I want to fix this thing so badly.

No, the size of the hole will remain the same, the tap will just repair the threads. It's not really a drill but the sides of the tap are sharp like knives, and they bite into the threads that remain and will rethread them. I know it sounds a little drastic, and honestly I can see how it sounds terminal to your mod.
Try the other options first, you could always take your mod to a machine shop and I am sure they'll be glad to explain how taps (and dies) work and maybe even do it for you.

Okay, seems like some good people are tying to help. Unfortunately some do not really understand threading.
Damaged threads - i.e. cross threaded or crushed can be repaired with a Tap. with a Mod you would used a FLAT TAP
a FLAT TAP had a flat end for deepest reach and has cutting Threads to restore damaged threading to original pattern.

Bad News - A Tap cannot put back threading that has worn away. Material gone is gone and will not magically come back. Over 30 years as a mechanic, I'm fairly certain nothing has changed on that front.

The reason I suggested the Air Flow regulator:
AirFlow.jpg

Will give the Mod a much better finished look than a 510 Ego sticking out the top. The 510/Ego can still be used if/when needed on the Regulator.

....I'm stunned. Absolutely. What a wealth of information! I'll weigh my options, perhaps take it to a hardware store this weekend, and THANK YOU for the air flow regulator suggestion because jeez the 510-eGo adaptor looks ridiculous on it...

And I do, now, understand the concept of threading. The threads are still there - they haven't been wiped away. This is why I was so confused as to why my tanks weren't able to catch the grooves!!

Something wrong with your blue Vivi Nova, looks like the bottom connector is pushed out...

Good eye. Yes, it's VERY pushed out but it's able to work because it's "springy." I've never seen anything like it before, but it works on every bat and mod I own (save, obviously, for my poor R2 ZMax!)
