Encouraging observations. Here there are more new smokers than new vapers. But there are fewer new smokers than in my day so progress is being made. Unfortunately drinking and popping whatever pill is in vogue is still relatively high. These little towns don't offer too many options for entertaining teens and young adults.

I do believe smoking contributes to making pre-existing health issues worse and likely is partially responsible for shortening life. I also believe BT did hide the truth for years. I also do not hold BT responsible for my choices.
How could they "hide the truth" when tobacco Control's founders were spewing propaganda for decades while tobacco companies did nothing but proffer platitudes? Please specify what was supposedly hidden, too.

Uh, I think that's a lot of assumptions about the elderly there

Then why are there so few elderly forum members on vapor forums?
On the Dutch forum with nearly 8000 members, I am the only one (69,5 years at this moment)and probably the same situation on the German and French forum.

I can't speak to the Dutch forum but, on ECF, I've found myself the baby (61.5yrs) on a few threads. There are a number of 70+yr olds here. There is a dominance by young ones, but we are here too.

In a couple months, I'll be 51. Some older than I consider me a kid, and I consider most younger than me a kid..

But are they women or men?

Both. I don't know the demographics of the entire site. Ladies don't always mention their age but I know one is close to 80 plus others in their 70s, several men who are 70-80+. It doesn't often come up and I don't focus on age, I'm more interested in content.

We were around at the dawn of the computer age.

My sister is 67, her husband is over 70. They are electronic junkies. They worked with mainframes early in their careers and migrated to PCs, tablets, smart phones, etc. My sister now does website design and his range of experience and computer knowledge is extraordinary. If I want computer or technical recommendations, I go to them.

My MIL, who would be 93 next month, worked in a data processing center and retired from that job twice. My mother had us do the initial set up of her computer (geeky kids) then she was off and running (she'd be 92). My husband is 68 and quite comfortable venturing out to the internet following his hobbies (and after seeing the toys my sister and BIL had, he has a long wish list). In 1973 I had to write a basic program as a requirement to graduate high school. Amazing to realize that was 45 years ago.

IMHO, being older today doesn't necessarily make one computer illiterate or unable to use them. For some it's a blessing as a way to connect to the outside world when their activities are restricted.

    Yep.
I am 69,5 years, vaping for nearly 11 years now, thanks to internet.
Also a member of the Dutch, English, German, and French vape fora.
But writing in French is getting more difficult for me... dementia is starting I guess

I guess there could be cultural differences between male and female smoking, IDK it didn't occur to me, l'm the twit, I guess. As a smoker I was always like HELL YEAH WIMMEN SHOULD SMOKE. At least in college I was like that, it was more frowned on at you know, PTA meetings or Ice hockey (although at least a FEW of them smoked.) Had it been soccer perhaps not.

I'm feeling this intense remorse now at how I couldn't or wouldn't call it what you will stop smoking in the car, so the kid was always having to explain (at 11) that no, it was his mom who smoked.

Gah. I was just such a horrible parent in some ways I SURE WISH that teens vaping was not currently considered a SIN> MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I smoked off and on starting around 15 years old. By 18 or so I was a pack or more a day smoker. Did that for close to 50 years. Have been vaping over 2 years and not ever going back to cigarettes. I feel a lot healthier and that means a lot to me at my age.

When I was a kid, cigarettes were easy to get. There were vending machines everywhere and even in stores they just sold them to you with no questions. Even on the rare occasion that they might ask, you just said they were for your dad and end of problem

Not during my youth and not in the happy flower-power era.
Everyone was smoking: men, women, teachers in class, etc.
I started smoking at age 7... with a cigarette stolen from my mother
And because she did not even notice that a cigarette was missing...
the next day I took 2 cigarettes...

Confessing my sin to a priest and having to pray for forgiveness as a punishment.... was enough...(to go on) :)
