i'd hate to add to the mods' workload but i was wondering if a computer tech support subforum could be added to 'site feedback and help'? ;)
ecf members run the gamut from computer newbies all the way to web developers and it would be nice to have a subforum where tech-savvy members could help troubleshoot computer problems in general.
i would not expect our mods to field those questions but rather count on the helpfulness of our members. some of the problems encountered occasionally show up in 'site feedback and help' but mostly as they relate to ecf.
i can't imagine a subforum like that would require much moderation and it might be of help getting to the bottom of browser problem etc.
just a thought and i won't feel bad if sarge goes ahead and deletes or closes this thread! :D

It wouldn't surprise me in the least as I've been in the IT biz since the late 70s. It still doesn't belie the fact that regardless of the excuse used, there are tons of sites out there.

It's already a nightmare finding some of the subforums on this site. Adding to that nightmare with a forum topic that's unrelated to electronic cigarettes and vaping just doesn't make sense.

I agree that there's already a lot of computer help forums in existence more suited to handle computer problems. I used to be on staff at geekstogo, (under a different name), and covering all the possible problems that can occur with computers running different OS's (Mac, Windows, Linux etc), would be a huge undertaking... and that's not even including hardware problems. Moreover, possible damage inflicted by unqualified people giving computer advice is not something ECF should have to deal with.

Moderation on geekstogo is a tremendous endeavor. I can tell you by experience that I've had to step in many times due to people giving bad advice. A non-moderated computer sub-forum would be a nightmare!

I am sure the "IT" thread would NOT be mixed in with 510, Provari and clearomizer discussions.

yeah, well - i had envisioned it underneath the already-existing computer security subforum ;) where a post could be answered if somebody knew the answer or where the poster could be directed to an appropriate help forum.

for instance - since the latest upgrade ff slows down for me within a matter of hours while before i could keep it running for days without getting bogged down.
is that just happening to me or have others experienced the same? i'll get to the bottom of it somehow but how much easier would it be if some other ecf member also had that problem and already found a solution?

If you saw this question in a forum, how would you answer to OP? What questions would you ask the OP?

i only would answer if i'd had that problem myself and would post what fixed it for me if i found a solution.

You see, that's the problem. This is what you would do. There are many other people that may attempt to help. Now whether they're qualified to help, that's another question... and that can lead to problems for the OP. Worst case, someone just posts something that crashes the OP's computer and then disappears. At least on a place like geekstogo, there are a lot of people present that have years of experience willing to help.

Back at ya, what would your answer be?
First you need to find out what OS they're running. What AV they're running. Is the AV real time... one that monitors internet connectivity. What anti-spyware apps are running. How many computer processes are running.

There are a ton of things both the OP and the one trying to help need to know. On geekstogo, we ask, at minimum, to post the OS, and all relevant computer specs so it's easier to troubleshoot.

LOL, Sorry, but you sound like your pushing geekstogo quite a bit in this thread,Fine sir
Thanks for the answer:)

Sheesh, I kept clicking on your profile by mistake trying to get to this thread!

The only reason I named geekstogo is because I used to belong to the forum. It's actually one of the best computer help forums out there and is a sister site to bleepingcomputer. Many members and techs belong to both sites, but I spent most of my time on geekstogo. I'm not pushing it, so sorry if you thought otherwise. Satisfactory answer for you? Fine.
