I agree that there's already a lot of computer help forums in existence more suited to handle computer problems. I used to be on staff at geekstogo, (under a different name), and covering all the possible problems that can occur with computers running different OS's (Mac, Windows, Linux etc), would be a huge undertaking... and that's not even including hardware problems. Moreover, possible damage inflicted by unqualified people giving computer advice is not something ECF should have to deal with.

Moderation on geekstogo is a tremendous endeavor. I can tell you by experience that I've had to step in many times due to people giving bad advice. A non-moderated computer sub-forum would be a nightmare!

A long time ago I was on the staff of ubuntuforums.org and I also have been a tech support guy on a few online gaming sites (I can't divulge them since I am under NDA agreements, but I can say they were major companies ) -- This is an endeavor that is way beyond ECFs scope and as was stated before the amount of bad advice that is given [and blindly followed ] makes moderation of such a forum a very big problem. In short there won't be a dedicated computer tech support forum. You think I have banned a lot of people here... I banned at least ten people daily that gave instructions that would completely wipe a computer or cause serious havoc...

Tech Support forum? That would be a nightmare. Not only would you be getting advice from people who really shouldn't be giving tech advice, as Sarge said, you would get some chuckleheads telling people to do something that would seriously mess up their machines.

The best tech advice anyone here could give someone is to go to another site and ask the professionals. That, and "Is your PC plugged in?"
