I really wish e-juice vendors better identified the parts in e-juice.
Me too. I don't want it regulated to death but I do want to know what's in it. To me, this would be a minimum standard. Just some way to know, even if it were a link to a PDF telling me what the ingredients are.
I was at a flavoring's site. They have links to their MSDS's. No chemical ingredients on them either. But then I realized that each ingredient would probably need it's own MSDS. This site will no longer tell you how many drops to use in e-juice. There's a link, found in this post http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...termining-flavor-percentages.html#post5311300, to go there no longer goes to that page. They do still tobacco flavorings, they just don't tell you how to use them. Maybe they don't want to be associated with tobacco in any way, but still want to make money from it.

Or... maybe they realized that they don't really know much if anything about flavoring eliquids, OR, they got tired of ANTZ harassment? I could see a lot of frothing at the mouth ANTZ emailing them CONSTANTLY to tell them how evil they are, to tell people how to make THAT POISON! They may be aware of this site and perhaps others that provide user-based support for eliquid recipes, and figured there was no need for them to get into that, beyond making the flavorings themselves.

I don't know how the Capella tobaccos taste, but their other flavors are excellent.

I'm tired of people running to the government to have the government tell me how to do things their way. Like whiny little tattle tales that run to mommy instead of handling it themselves. Like they missed the protests of the 60's so they have to make up faux protests to make themselves feel cool and accomplished for hope and change and leave a legacy. Or, governments rubbing their hands together trying to think of more ways to squeeze money out of the average American who is "Too stupid" (Jonathan Gruber) to think for themselves. *steps off soapbox*
Me? I'm a grown woman capable of making my own choices. I don't need a government to tell me what to do.

I'm about to try Capella tobaccos. They have a set of 5 (?) for $15-ish or something like that. :)

The first cited study reached the astonishing conclusion, "Gee, there sure are a lot of these products!"
"Concerns" are not evidence.
There have been a number of studies to determine who uses e-cigs, both here and abroad. The vast majority are former or current cigarette smokers. No study has been able to identify a single person who was induced to become a regular analog cig smoker via e-cigs.
If we're "just beginning to understand" the health effects of e-cigs, exactly what is it we have now begun to understand?

After I read what I wrote, I realized it may have implied that that was the most significant citation in the JAMA article - it was not. As you say, it was merely a survey of the growth of e-cig product availability.

The others are more interesting.

For example, the second citation mentions a study that found after comparing a handful of e-cig juices with cigarette smoke that flavorings in most were not cytotoxic - but the ones found to be cytotoxic tended to contain real tobacco extracts. This was a lab study (Comparison of the Cytotoxic Potential of Cigarette Smoke and Electronic Cigarette Vapour Extract on Cultured Myocardial Cells) that was performed by producing e-cig and cigarette vapor, and exposing vapor contents to cell cultures. It was found that the base eliquid (PG and VG) wasn't toxic, and flavored juices generally were not either, but that flavors based on tobacco extract, and cinnamon, tended to be more toxic. Greater nicotine concentrations were not associated with greater toxicity.

Unsurprisingly, actual cigarette smoke was the most toxic by far. Although the tobacco extract-based flavors were found to be most toxic, they all seemed to come from a single juice maker, and the toxicity might've resulted from some other impurity or flavoring added during manufacture.

This is what's meant by 'just beginning to understand'. Although many interesting results came out of just this single study, it raises just as many questions as it answers. It'd be nice to know more.
