Very glad to hear you are continuing to enjoy your Alpha, don't worry about the ceramic. You are not going to break it removing the top cap. The threads are very fine and if a small piece of whatever gets in there it can make a little grinding noise. Usually a good rinse under the faucet, making sure to give the threads a good blast will get every thing working like new. I little noalox or Vaseline on the threads can help to.

Remember the RES is backed by a 10 year warranty, so if breaks under normal use, we replace it, no need to lose any sleep!

Cheers,

SH

You misunderstood me. :) It’s not the threads that make the grinding sound and feel. I’m aware of that the threads need to be cleaned. I mean that the ceramics rotates around the inner tube and sometimes get stuck and grippes on the outer walls of the RES and makes it hard to screw off.
I think it’s great with the ten year warranty.

Very nice pics there and follow-up review.

Ok, a quick update on my loved InnoVapor Apex Alpha Ultra Max RES.

I had it for a week now and it performs excellent. The switch was pretty easy to handle when I got it but it’s even smoother now, and I have not polished it yet. I have operated it with sweaty hands and even with greasy hands. My friends have tried it and none of them had any problems with the switch after they figured it out how it works.

The 17670 battery performs very well. I fill up the RES and put a fresh battery in it at 7am and drive an hour to work vaping almost nonstop. I use it thru the day, some days more, some days less depending on what I’m doing. I mostly ad a few drops thru the tip when needed. Sometimes I accidently overfill it but it’s easy to just blow it out through the small holes on the RES and wipe it off. I store the Alpha in my pocket and not a single drop ever has been spilt out. After work I drive home vaping along and at around 5pm at home I change the battery for a fresh one. It’s amazing

I tried some different tastes, mainly PG. Taste, vapor and TH is excellent with my LR attys.

One thing on the downside. I have noticed it when I unscrew the top cap of the RES.
Sometimes it feels like the ceramics is gripping on the inside of the tube. I have to screw it back and forth until it loosens. I’m afraid it's going to break one day. When I take it off, the ceramics around the tube is loose and if I try to turn it there is some crunching sound like there is loose ceramics inside. Is it supposed to be like this?:(

As for the Nickel plate tarnishing... It’s beautiful. It gives it a very personal look. I even had to take some pictures to show how it looks.

I was primarily an Ego-T tank user and used the 510-EgoT adapter from avid vaper for my mods.
{Writing this after seeing namuch and atavanhalen post pics of the Alpha with the EgoT.}

But ................ sorry N8T and Innovapor but I have to blame
Pointing_Smiley_by_thejagman22.gif
for this.

I no longer have any desire of using my EgoT tanks. Whenever I use them, the vapor tastes like meh, bleh, blech, or whatever. I still use them but only for the very strong flavors that I have. Now my EgoT tanks are getting lonely.

@TmeisT: guess this is my quick attempt at stating what I think about the Alpha RES compared to my other pv {you probably can tell, I'm not a good reviewer}. My other mod is a VV so I don't think it would be a good comparison.

I think you got the point across just fine :)

So I've had my Ultra RES for 6 days now and am loving it. I think I've found the right combination of pv size, capacity and ease of use.

After much use, I noticed a couple of things that would like some feedback on:

1. Switch - On one review {forgot which one}, I read that the user only needed to slide the switch 1mm for it to engage? Maybe it's a typo but it takes me 5-6mm for the switch to engage and fire the atty. And if I don't slide it that much, the switch will not engage. Is this the normal travel?

2. RES - The RES works good for me but it wasn't until today when I figured out how it would work better or even best for me. I normally, out of habit maybe, vape into my mouth then inhale. Once in a while I get dry hits so I just vape without activating the switch and works fine again.
Today, I thought, hmmm, was that how I smoked, nah, so I tried to mimic smoking a stinky with the Ultra, which if most of you can still recall, is straight to the lungs. If done with tight lips, the draw would be extremely tight so I kinda introduce a little air with it.
Holy cajoles!!!! Massive throat hit and the flavor is amazing, I almost coughed at times :vapor:. I kept doing it and doing it and doing it and I can't get the atty to dry hit. The throat hit and flavor stays the same every time. I can't explain it but it works for me. And ......... that's on a 6mg juice :) Another plus is that I can't chain-vape in that manner. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Bottom line, I think I may have found my preferred e-juice delivery method with the RES. I've run it through different juice flavors, menthos, cigars, fruits, sweets, tobaccos and there have been no lingering tastes. And ....... the vapor always tastes clean and good.

The Alpha as a whole is an amazing piece of art. It functions well each time and every time. I love the fact that it's a no-frills mechanical device. No electronics to worry about, though I need to learn how to gauge when to switch batteries

As I've mentioned a couple of posts above, I've delegated my EgoT for those very strong flavors but the rest go through the Alpha Ultra. I'm even contemplating on getting an UltraLite to replace my soon to die {ok I'm not forcing them to} EgoT atties.

On top of that, awesome support from Sales and Manufacturing standpoint.

Good to hear that you got it figured out for your own personal style and that its working great.

To answer your first question it depends on which battery you use. When we first came out with the Ultras the main body was much shorter than it is now. We made them short to only run with the IMR 14500s. But people asked about running the protected 14500, which are a bit longer than the IMRs, and the main body was too short to use these. (the atomizer would instantly start firing when you screwed it together). So we came out with new main bodys that are longer so they can be used with both batteries. So if you are using the IMR batteries the slide will be further than if you are using the protected. Hope that helps.

And I like how you found out a different way to puff on it to get the RES to work just right for you. I haven't tried that and might have to give it a whirl just to see exactly what you are talking about. Sounds like a great idea. As for judging batteries, it just takes a litle practice. I know when my 10440 battery is going to die within about 5 puffs of it dying. Still trying to get down the UltraMax. Like I said it just takes practice.

Glad you are happy with your Ultra.
Cheers

Ahah! So that's what it is. Yes, I do use the IMR 14500. Not complaining about the 5-6mm travel as I already got used to it but if I can reduce that gap to something like 2mm, that would be great. Magnetic spacers maybe, about 3-4mm? Besides, I already have a slight play on the battery sleeve before the battery post even touches the switch {not much maybe 0.5-1.0mm}, so it rattles a bit, I can definitely use some spacers.

Ya, try the puffing technique. It's kinda different

One possible solution would be to order a new main body and I can send you a short one. We still have a very limited supply of the short main bodys left from our first run on the Ultras. It is .06" shorter and would solve your problem. If that is something you would like to do be sure to email support@innovapor.com with your order number saying that you would like a short main body.
