Did this the other night with 4 wraps of 30 gauge wire came out to 2.1 ohm and hits great. Thanks for the post and info guys

Must be some big wraps. I do 6 wraps of 32 gauge Kanthal A1 and get 2.2-2.4 ohms every time. This makes me wonder if I actually got sent 32ga. I am doing evod heads but I don't think they are that different in size.

I wrap around a 1/16" drill bit so they should be about the same size. Maybe my run of wire just has a lower resistance than normal or something. I use that size because it fills the wick holes in the head nicely with out the need for loose flavor killing wicks. The easier rewicking is just a nice bonus, since I only seem to get about 10-15ml through a wick before it starts wicking poorly.

Ok, I just rewicked my Pro Tank with cotton and so far I like it. I can taste sweet notes of my favorite DYI juice now before it was muted, good vapor just dull now it has both. I went kind of thick four raps of 32g nichrome for 2.5 ohms. Now I'm going to redo my spare head.:)

I, too, re wicked the heads I have. 32 gauge kanthal with a five over four wrap. 2.6 ohms resistance. I used worsted cotton yarn for the wick. Right now it's doubled over and pulled through the coil. No additional wick needed. This setup has stopped the " end of tank" flood. I've not had a dry hit. I do have good clouds of vapor that are consistent from tank start to finish.

My vamo at 3 watts/3.0 volts burned almost every stock wick. At first I thought it might be my DIY juice. Nope. Same juice in new setup is fabulous. I might be nuts, but I swear my juice tastes better.

I had a really easy time with the worsted cotton yarn. It seems to be perfect. Obviously, the yarn is no dye. I didn't boil it before using it. My wife provided it so it probably came from Walmart.

Questions? I'll help if I can.

I used makeup pads pulled apart for the fluffy center. I've got some peaches and cream yarn I'm going to try tonight.

i just rebuilt my protank heads. on my meter i'm reading 1.9ohm minus the .2 for the leads that gives me about 1.7ohm. this is 32g kanthal 3 turns. I might have to go with 4 turns and a little higher resistance because my sid keeps reading low load or short. but i can get through the rest of the day if I just unscrew the tank a tad bid and the resistance goes up a little. live and learn.

but the cotton is holding up nice and gives good vapor and flavor.

It's probably not your rebuild, my stock protank reads LO on my Provari Mini if screwed in too snug, I always have to unscrew it a bit.

Tee-hee... I have a T3 head that might be on its way out... I have a bunch of wick snips that I was going to use to replace the flavor wicks that I put in there, but I am going to try this tonight.

I wish someone would post a pick of the cotton wick before they thread it into the coil, with the coil in the pic, so I can gauge how thick a cotton wick I need. I am going to try the Q-tip method.. I have tons of those kicking around and I'm too impatient to wait until I get a chance to go pick up some sterile cotton... :)

Man o man... I hate having to purchase new T3 coils just because some tiny little wick has given up the ghost. Seems like such a waste. If this works well, I'll be giggling like a kid at Christmas. It should be easy to avoid the seep leaks that plague the bottom coils, and you can't get any cheaper.

One of these days I'll track down some Kanthal and do it soup to nuts, but with a dry burn when its unwicked between rebuilds, that coil should last a long time.

No pic's but I'll try and explain what i do with cotton balls. I very lightly roll the piece of cotton into a rope shape, that tapers slightly to a smaller end, you can pull real lightly to stretch it a little if needed. Then I twist the smaller end real tightly to make it easier to start feeding it through the coil. Next I pull it slowly though the coil until it starts to pull the coil slightly. Finally trim the wicks and fluff the ends up and reassemble the head.

I have been doing it this way for months and about 95% of my wicks work great after I got the hang of it.

I thought this idea was going to be a waste of time but I just tried it after work. I am blown away. I have some RBAs that don't taste as good as this. Flavor profile is so much deeper than mesh for me, and silica isn't even in the same ball park. Super easy, and best of all, super cheap (practically free with the Qtip method I just used).

On a VAMO, 4/3 wrapped around a 1/16th bit with 32 kanthal. Licked my fingers, pulled a slightly larger than coil ID lump off of Qtip (because there are a lot of air pockets when you pull it). Licked my fingers again and smushed into a rod-like shape with special attention at creating a tip on one end. I didn't roll it as someone earlier said not to, though I don't see why that would be a bad idea. Takes steady hands but once you get it through the coil, just snip sides or tuck around the main reservoir. Remember the wick will expand when full of liquid, so if it is slightly loose, that's fine. Prime the wick, place the metal cap back on the atomizer chamber followed by the grommet. Make sure the grommet is down snug to prevent leakage.

You will get some gurgles and very small pops but the vape on the way is mind blowing. I'm going to have to lower my nic %.

Thank you all for the tips. I am monitoring for the next several hours to make sure there are no leaks. With the slight gurgling, I am guessing there is a possibility of leaking but others have not reported it often so it might be 'just the way it works'.

Rewicked it with cotton and man does it work like a champ. Wrapped 5 times with 32g kanthal and the TH was intense. Have to run it at 3.2v just to manage the TH. Had a 1.8ohm stock coil and couldn't get a TH unless I wanted to burn the head. Wish I knew the ohm but I don't have the money for battery on my Vamo, ugh. Just been clicking the button wishing I could vape it. Taste is much better than silica, crazy awesome.

has anyone who's rewicked with cotton ball or cheesecloth also compared their flavor to a carto or carto tank?
I've finally found the flavor I was looking for with carto tanks, so my KPTs are collecting dust at the moment. However, I will admit when using cotton wicks, I didn't know they should soak for an hour before firing, so I may have been losing alot of flavor with burnt wicks.
Will try again, but the cartos are working very well.
Just wondering how a properly cotton wicked KPT compares for flavor with a carto?
