So I have been vaping for about 2 months now and finally ive been able to quit smoking. About a week after I started vaping I jumped in to DIY. Ive made a few of my own flavours. I dont like the flavour to be too strong. Usually I keep it in the 5% ratio and I only use VG as the base. I also use 26ga Kanthal A1 for my coils. I vape one a eleaf iStick pico mega and a doge v3 RDA. How often should I re-wick my coils and how often should I change the coils. I vape at about 40W on a dual coil setup at 0.35 ohms(5 winds each)

When i used cotton i rewicked every 2-3 days.

I Dry burn my coil to burn tge gunk off the coil then rewick.

A coil in my Kayfun lasts 2 1/2-3 months.

I use Rayon wicking now and it lasts longer than cotton

hit, are you getting it from any canuck companies?

Not Hittmetwice, but if you have a beauty salon/supply store nearby, you can get Cellucotton (make sure it's 100% rayon) - quite the large supply for not a lot of money. I just ask my hairdresser for a few feet every once in awhile - she's cool with it.

when i just started vaping, rebuilding, DIY juicing I was keen on rebuilding / rewicking my RTAs. Would do it every other day.

9 months later I've gotten lazier :)

My coils have been in there for about 2 months. The cotton however, I rewick after about 60ml or when the taste starts to become funky.

Point is, its really up to you as how often you would like to rebuild/rewick.

I care about throat hit, nic, and texture. From trial and error I rewick every 2-3 days and rebuild every 2-4 weeks to keep the quality of the vape. I use 1% favoring and temp control. Those seem to reduce gunking.

I have really never found a real reason to rebuild my coils if they are in working order.

All of my tanks and attys have coils that are well over 3 months old.
I only wrap a coil wben the flavor suffers.

I usually build to .78-.83 ohms. With use the resistance creeos up. Once tge resistance creeos up to 1.0-1.1 the flavor is not what it ought to be so i rebuild. Usually 2 1/2-3 months.

I use 26 gauge Kanthal.

Depends on if I'm looking for something to busy myself with or not and the rewicking is usually done in conjunction with switching flavors, the re-coiling done because I'm experimenting or trying to improve the atty's performance. I've yet to have a coil actually "burn" out on me and I haven't even seen much in the way of gunked wicking either.

    That's a good point.

As well, I keep an eye on my coils for heavy oxidation or discoloration over long periods of time.

Wicks usually last weeks. Coils last for months.

I might be wicking too thin or maybe it's my eliquid but after 3+ days my wicks are nasty.

That is with constant use though. If I'm in a Subohm tank mood and I'm not using my RDA for a week or so, I just rewick.

That means you are still using cotton wicks. Most of us have moved onto Rayon. Rayon wicks lasts much longer than cotton wicks, and wicks more efficiently.

In the Rayon thread one ECF member put 100+ mls of Juice through 1 Rayon wick.
