OK, I'm really digging this latest build... a "zipper" coil using the .8mm ribbon. All the surface area and ample juice delivery of a dual coil, but in series, not parallel, so it's still about 1.5Ω, and hopefully won't drain the battery so fast. It's been making some impressive clouds so far, and tastes great.

Thats impressive! Can you share how you built the coil? I'm having a hard time understanding how the coils are in 'series'.

It's one strand of ribbon wire, which I wrapped in a repeating figure-eight pattern around two toothpicks. So it's really a single coil, just spread out. Calling it in "series" is probably inaccurate, since it's only one coil. It's in "series" relative to a dual-wire, true dual-coil parallel setup.

Plaz, have you tried maybe 1 or 2 less wraps which will lower the resistance? I found that on a Grand I like around the 1.0 mark

Yes, I'll probably try that next time. I was satisfied with the 1.5 for a first try with this config, and it's definitely cloudy! But I was targeting 1-1.25Ω... maybe I'll try one fewer wrap on the "top coil" next time.

By now its pretty easy to see that I pretty much love cotton for wicks. It's so good and easy that I have never tried anything else.

But...

When i went to the mailbox today, there was a rope of xc -116 in there from my man pdib. It looks very easy to use and users are raving over its wicking and flavor properties so tonight I'm gonna try it and post some pix and and results of my build. :)

If anyone wants to try bamboo, cotton yarn, cheese cloth or German 1.5mm silica please pm me your address! I have tons of this stuff and will never use it all! Also 30g kanthal A1. I just got 100'...plenty to share. I'll preboil the cotton before I mail it.

Don't be shy guys...if you've never tried this stuff it's worth it. I'm happy to share

I'm very curious about this...

Ok, I was going to go to bed but I cannot leave you all hanging. I am also aware that this is the RM2 thread so please forgive me that this build is on another atty on my VV grand. I took these pix earlier (cause i couldnt wait to try it) but wasnt gonna post anything till i did a proper build on my RM2. This RBA also happened to have a nice big 14 gauge coil on it so i just slipped the wick in. pdib is right, you need a 1/16" mold to get a nice tight fit. the 14 ga is a little too big so I dont have good contact between the coil/wick. HOWEVER, even with this shabby build (jeesh - that coil looks like my 6 year old son built it), there is something about it that I cant describe, I can only say that I like it. I cant put my finger on why yet (but im tired as hell and the hawks/wings game is on) another thing, it wicks like crazy - that pic was taken after 2 good squonks - draws in the liquid like a sponge.

I WILL do a proper build tomorrow on my RM2 so please bear with me, but i can already say that pdib was correct, this stuff does seem special, and I would think even more so if you are used to silica wicks. Oh and thank you for the 6" rope of 1/32" Nextel XC-116 pdib :)

Hmm, Russ.

The coil looks fine. I can assure you that MY 8 year old can't build better one without several "owies". But the coil diameter seems waay too big for that wick. Looks like the tops of the loops are not touching the wick. Do you get any burnt/metallic taste?

Also, I apologize for ragging on you. The original question was about taste and wicking, which has very little to do with coil
