Oops. Took a different turn. Still trying to take the edge off the 10-wrap micro. How about a "super" X?

What is interesting to me, here, is that the brightest glow is not in the center of the wire. Rather it is in the center of each coiled section. (Goes back to some lengthy discussions on "hot legs" and wire glow)

Ok last one. This one is the coil of the day. Not much to look at; but it took a lot of work. 4 tries. (gave up after the first try, and made "fatty" there. Then came back to it and finally slew the beast) That there would be 28gKan. on a 3/64" cup hook. If it were straight, that'd be one thing; but getting that ceramic rope thru there was brain surgery. But I finally got the heat/spacing I wanted. Dead nuts on. (yay :p) Vapin' like a dream. Hits plenty hard enough without sacrificing flavor and holds thru for the long draws. It may not be truly "Micro"; but it is "truly" micro.

Been vaping the super_x micro-coil with cotton since I got my Reomizer 2.0. I use 9-10 wraps of 30 gauge around a 1.4mm screwdriver with all wraps touching. The coil looks like a compressed spring. Thread in a wick made of rolled cotton from CVS and go. Vapes like a champ.

Finally got some 500 SS mesh in for another project so I thought I'd try a "clyde build". I tried it with 5 wraps of 28ga and wrapped a "normal coil" with spacing between the wraps. Mounted it between the posts instead of in front of them thinking I could get a little longer wick. A little tougher to get the wires through the posts but thought I'd try it.

Here is a pic right after testing it out on my Nzonic v3 rather than risk the spring on the Reo:

I've only been vaping it a little bit but so far the flavor is improved and clyde did say the flavor with this setup was good, so he was right. On the other hand the vapor production is lower. Throat hit is about the same.

Will spend some more time with this setup and report back.

i don't rate ss wick in it - it just doesn't work fast enough and porous ceramic is a dead loss. I use 400 ss mesh usually in other things and it's ok but the TH can be harsh.

i always test my coils and wicks on HER device before i put them on a Reo because i am mean! I'm just wondering why your mesh is not aligned with the hole since it would wick faster if it were?

In an RM2 i like either really fat 3mm silica or a nextel a few of us have been trying out. The nextel might outlast ss mesh!

As I said in my post I though that wick placement would allow for a little longer wick - more wick equals more juice - more juice equals more vaping between squonks. The wick is saturated by the squonk no matter where it is placed.

But in responding to your question I did just realize that now the coil is not as well aligned with the air hole as if it was across the posts like usual. Didn't think of that last night.

Tried the SS mesh setup for a day and it was OK. Also tried installing it normally across the posts and that did help a little with vapor production. But neither setup was as nice as the super_x microcoil with cotton so I rebuilt it back to that last night. Got some ekowool in the other day so that will be the next experiment. It looks pretty large in diameter but is supposed to be hollow so not sure how I'll build it quite yet. Need to check around the RM2 threads again since someone probably already posted a great place to start. :)

Messin' around. I think this is 26g (not sure, looks like it, blows like it); thus ~.6Ω. I thought I'd try this "airplane wing" shape, so I slipped a little NEXskinnyTEL in an old coil and squarshed it a bit. Then I thought I'd "over-under" the nextel, leaving some airflow gaps. Since building, I've pushed the coil up a bit, to get airflow both over and under. (the under really seems to bring out TH and a tangy-ness). With all that wick around there, its a bit . . . . . . muted (?), thick (?), something . . . on the flavor. However, I must now communicate to you, that the clouds are THICK, HEAVY, and DENSE. And, consequently, the nic. hit is . . . . . . big. This is a crude, quick, try-it build. I may pursue this with some more finesse. Worth trying? . . . . . . . . . . .

Sure

ADDIT: Just went back out and hit it 2 more times. With the coil up and the air flowing top and bott., the flavor is all there. Kids, this is a big, big vape.

^^ Most Recent NEX skinny TEL build on my VVG. Really loving this stuff, mainly because of its cleanliness in both vape characteristics and the wick itself. Additionally, it is very easy to build a great vaping setup. I am going to leave these in for as long as possible to test long term vapability and durability. I like how it holds its shape when cut precisely and not frayed by over aggressive wrapping.

^^ This nextel build has been in use for going on 6 days now. Vape characteristics are unchanged. The wick was frayed like this when I built it by some poor cutting and overly aggressive wrapping on my end. Notice in both setups that the wick doesn't droop towards the deck like cotton does after a days use.

Well, now, you can totally blame super_X_drifter! He's the one who got me turned on to REOs & RM2s; and I wouldn't even be here if it weren't for him!

Speaking of which, I saw Supe's coil and thought it looked so handsome, that I had to make one too. (29gK)

There! That's gotta be over 1Ω . . . . . I think.

Yep, i bet you didn't believe I'd just mail it to ya after a couple of casual posts did ya? :).

What do you think of the vape from the minimalist setup you built pdib? I really like mine. Equal to or better than cotton but much more consistent hit after hit. And much fresh juice, since I goose about every 3 hits. :)

Ah yes, super_x. Our Coil Muse.

I can think if a few better words / titles for myself, but I can pretty much guarantee that they will get edited, so I won't waste young Lisa's time.

Ok, maybe just one: "that coil making, arrogant, cocky a__ redneck f___head with way too much time on his hands"

You really need to blame Rob. It's because of him that I have such an awesome setup that I can experiment with builds, vape like a rock superstar and type posts instead of screw around with inferior products.

I'll have to give it a try. What are the benefits of vertical vs horizontal?

Besides satisfying curiosity? None that I noticed :)

So after pdib said let's make a vertical coil I said screw it. Made one and this is how it came out. View attachment 215370
Not much difference then a horizontal coil but it was fun trying it out. The cotton has no problems wicking it up to the coil.

So, I was messin' around with something else, and this conversation came to mind, (2nd post addresses it) I found a substantial difference when I was really paying attention, and had a true comparison set up.
