RM2 Wick & Coil Setups

Tried my first infinity coil yesterday. It's not as easy as some of the pictures I have seen made it look. Mine is kinda ugly, but it vapes great. 1.9 ohms, 30ga KA and a doubled over cotton wick. I need to order some 28ga so I can get more wraps going. I am happy with it for now. :thumb: Please pardon my dirty looking RM2, my ceramic got stained from using too much ez-sweet in my DIY juice. Lesson learned!

But I still like my micro coil builds, so much prettier!

With coils looking as fantastic as those, i am surprised you are not a fly fisherman tying your flies all lined up in a nice little metal case...match the hatch.

Totally agree with LT ^

That is probably the best coil I have ever seen. An artwork. Way to rock it Brent. :)

Thanks for the compliments folks. Building these coils has made me realize that my 40 year old eyes probably need a check up. haha I did actually tie flies about 10 years ago. Coils are more fun!

On the dual coil one, its actually just one wire wrapped in a figure eight around two finishing nails. They take an extra second to get hot but it's worth it. Vapor production is "billowing"!

Thanks Commie! I'd never hold them to wrap them - so i thought i'd just solder the ends together and then cut those off if/when i managed to get them thru the holes!

T

I twisted one side, and then, after coiling, twisted the other. Soldering would work at least as well, but I didn't have the patience for it :)

so after my super hybrid silicameshbamboo wick i wanted to try the genesis setup i saw earlier in the thread shoutouts to that person. flat kanthal is nice easy to work with got .9 on this one needs to be rejuiced often but worth it cuz ive noticed i get a better throathit on the straight mesh rather than my other setups. liking the utility of burning the juice off too.. silica seems to keep flavors longer than id like. rolled up a nice long piece of mesh up with a small hole in the middle, flavor comes out nicely as well.

Nice looking build! I'll be interested to see if you get a high degree of blackened juice backwash into the bottle like I did when I tried this type of setup.

Seriously, tho. Since the RM2 does have a basin, may I politely suggest bottoming the wick out in the center? That's what I'm doing with a vertical braided wick; squonk to fill the basin, and let the wick pull it up. (no leftovers, clean plate club) . . . . . . . . . I'm starting to sound like Kevin Brown over in the RBA forum. (nice guy, though)

Is it hard to build a vertical coil?

Not at all, Bodkin. Not any harder than horizontal, assuming that you roll your coil on a solid object (syringe needle/toothpick/etc), and install it with the said object in place. Vertical coil will likely leave you with longer leads to the coil, but it shouldn't be a problem -- that shouldn't create any hot spots.

Well, now. I'm just starting in with this atty with a hole in the bottom business, so don't mind me: but, with the nextel (I think it pulls the juice up pretty effectively), I'm thinking having all the wick fiber tips in the juice, and having a very short travel between squonk and coil may be a thing I'm thinking. . . . . . seeee?

(just trying it these last couple days, have to go over and back a few times to assess . . . . . since I just have the one REO and one RM2)
