PBusardo did a 1 hour review and found some firmware glitches on the Aegis. It seems that if you replace the coil (change attys) it doesn't know you did and tries to fire the coil at the previous wattage instead of asking you if you installed a new coil.

Firmware should fix that. I'll have to compare F/W levels when mine arrives.
Stuff like this deterred me way back when from turning to a regulated mod, i figured my mechs were bullet proof as long as I was safe, smart, and tidy. I never had to worry about electronic chipsets failing, etc. Although, I really like the idea of more possibilities and versatility of regulated mod. But a man has gotta know his limitations ;)

Low prices sometime come with caveats. In this case, the mod is probably an early model and they are aware of the bug in the firmware. As long as the new version is available for download I'm willing to do the update for the $29.95 price. Busardo did a comprehensive review (most of an hour video was on the Aegis).

It pays to research before buying, but this was one of those grab and go deals and once updated I'll use it to see if I like the ergonomics or it might just go into my FDA insurance box. :)

If you have a tank you like you could save a few $ by purchasing just the mod. I really enjoy my Legend but I'm underwhelmed by the AeroMesh tank that came with it. I find the Vaporesso NRG tank to out perform it with mesh coils. If you don't have a favorite tank now then the AeroMesh tank could be an introduction to subohm mesh for you.

ETA: @Beamslider suggested that the Vaporesso GT mesh coil from my NRG tank would work in the GeekVape AeroMesh tank, I tried and he was correct, works without issue.

To avoid any confusion, here is a link to the correct coils Vaporesso GT Replacement Coils | GT Mesh Vape Coils. There is a dropdown menu for Resistance, you will find many choices (when in stock), I prefer the mesh coils.

Not a deal breaker for me, none of the mods I currently use ask either, of course they're old.

Doesn't the NRG GT Mesh coil also fit the Aero Tank?
Haven't tried it, I have used it in the Baby Beast and it fits. I'll try it tomorrow when I get back to Tampa and report back. I'm in Ohio this weekend and only have NRG tanks with me, the AeroMesh is in the Vape locker in my motorhome in Tampa.

The Legend asks when a new coil is put on. Not sure about the older Aegis but will find out as I ordered one because it was $29 and I have some 26650 batteries. There is a newer firmware for it though that might fix it.

Not a problem for me either. Just hit the button without a tank and it would no doubt clear it.

You do not have to hit the button without tank....

when i got that message I press plus button (with tank attached) and it clears... that feature is important for those that often switch from high wattage DTL tank to low wattage MTL tank... you do not want to fire tank with 1.2 ohm coil with the same wattage you used for dual 0.25 ohm coil tank... but for those that vape more the less same wattage this feature is not important... what you set in wattage mode do not change...

Still did not updated firmware because my aegis work as a charm and I vape in relative narrow wattage range of 12-18 watt... because that narrow range I did not get that message often unless occasionally I venture into 30-40 watt range with my DTL tank... It is nice if mod is asking that question... since after vaping at 40 watts if I change tank for MTL that has 28 gauge wire 0.7ohm coil forgetting changing wattage to lower number can have unpleasant consequences...:D

I always change the wattage when I install a new coil anyway, or even just after rewickimg, I start a little lower than what I normally vape at, just habit so it really doesn't mater if the mod ask or not..

It is not about changing coil...or wick... some of us use multiple tanks with different flavors and different coils in the same day... sometimes I change tank and I am not sure what coil I installed in it ... is it 0.7 or 1.2ohm...

During lunch brake I can put my Baby Beast on my Aegis and puff big clouds outside at 40 watt and when I get inside I will switch tank to my more "stealthy" Doggystyle and if I will forget to change wattage and press fire button with 40 watts going to coil that can handle maximum 18.... it is not good thing... it happened to me only once and not on Aegis but other mod that do not ask if it is different coil...

Yea, that too, I use a dripper at home pretty often, just a habit of changing the watts whenever i put on a tank. Probably just because I've always had to, never had a mod that even asked.

I'm looking for recommendations on a box mod. I have used solely mechs for the last 4 years, before that I had an MVP and provari.
I am a commercial fisherman, so I'm looking for a mod that can take some slight or moderate abuse and still keep ticking. I'm interested in messing around with wattage, and also have a bout of shinyitis. :D i've kept the shinyitis under control for 4 years when I bought quite a bit of some quality gear to last. I really have no idea what brands are reliable and quality. I've been looking at wismec rx2, which seemed to look well made and relatively inexpensive.
I'm a recreational sailor (nothing compared to you, really) and for a while the best thing around for me is the Lost Vape Triade. Has 3 18650 batteries that hold up well and you won't have to be charging every single day. If the mod is a little too big, the Yihi G Class is more expensive but will hold any kind of abuse you throw at it. Two batteries, so it won't last that long. On a sailboat energy is a commodity, specially when you don't have an inboard. So I usually take the Triade. Also less expensive is the Eleaf Tria, also three battery. You can also search for some of the ABS mods like the Puma (mine hasn't arrived yet so I can't vouch for it yet). Take your pick!

I'm still in love with my Erlkönigin after 4 years of good and constant use and is still perfect. It's had some more life breathed into it with some a new SS and copolymer tank, after I cracked a couple copolymers, courtesy of Von Erl. The tesla clone I bought to get a spare tank while I was waiting is not so perfect, as a former precision machinist, it makes me cringe. It is a viable emergency backup if it ever came down to it, and now I have 3 tanks/tubes. The tesla clone tank needs different o rings to seal properly on the authentic. Hopefully by the time I can purchase the aegis legend it will still be available, or an improved version available.

THe NRG coils do fit the Geek Vape AeroMesh Tank. Mod recognized it as a new coil and read the resistance. I haven't tried filling with juice but short of making sure it the height of the coil doesn't prevent the glass from sealing top and bottom it looks good.

Filled the AeroMesh tank with a juice I've been wanting to try to test out the tank with a Vaporesso coil in it, worked fine no leaks.

I always worry about leaks when mixing coils from one manufacture with a tank from another. I tried it once with a Vaporesso mesh coil in a SMOK light tank. All seemed ok until I put the juice in. Either the coil was too tall or the bubble glass was too short to allow the tank to seal top and bottom, ugly leak.

So the Vaporesso GT Core coils do work well in the Geek Vape AeroMesh tank.

Thanks for trying it out, I'll pick some up and try the coil out.

I haven't tried them so take it as a maybe only, but these coils should also fit.
IJoy XS coils
Vapefly Mini M8 coils
WOTOFO Flow coils

I did try Joytech ProCore aries coils and they didn't work because the base of the coil was too short and wouldn't screw in. But the Aero Mesh coils did work in the Joytech ProCore tank.

I made note of those coils.

I need an arsenal of drop in coils because of all my air travel. They are just easier to throw in my laptop bag and go. If I spent less time in the air and more time at home or at least more time in my motorhome I would build more of my own.

I am mostly using the Legend with a Digiflavor GTA but do occasionally use it with the Aero tank and mesh coil
