Just completed a Re-build. The one on it before was the original/initial build and had been used as an "Evenings Vaper" for about a month. Could tell by the decreased Vapor production and Flavor it was in need of a Restoration.
Built Dual-Coil, 26ga Kanthal, 7-wrap on a 2.38mm Bit, yielding 0.39R.
Figured would take and post Pics during the Process in case a New Russian 3.0 Owner was looking for Tips, Hints, etc. Not anything "special" by any means. Just hoping to give back a small bit of what I have learned and helped myself to on ECF from others over the years.
Built, Dressed, Ends clipped and stowed, reading 0.39 as it should and holding steady throughout the Dressing Process.
Pulsing using the 521 Tab from quick short bursts at first to longer bursts as the Coil Wraps "come-in".
After Dry-Pulse Break-In and slight Needle-Nose Compression, she is glowing evenly (no sign of Hot-Leg)and ready to cool and wick.
Wicked with good Ol' Hellifino Organic Cotton. Trimmed, Flared, and Thinned and ready to get Wet.
After Wetting, I always go back and re-Flare and Thin again as well as re-Check & Trim Length. As Q says, "Less IS More" and the Russian (as with all such Deck/Juice Feed Design RTAs) is no exception. Gotta feed 'er well to see how she will grow during operation to be sure there is not too much which will lead to overstuffed Channels and Dry-Hits/Slow-Flow.
Works best when the Wick touches the bottom of the Cut-Out on the Upper Build Deck and not all the way down to the Base Cut-Outs... Never a Dry-Hit, Slow-Flow, or Flood-Out doing it this way (usually only have to open the Juice Control to the second from Max Hash-mark using 70/30 or 80/20 Liquid).
After installing the Chimney Base Ring on the Deck, I clear-out a small Area directly under each Coil being sure to leave some of the Wicking in that center Area down at the bottom all the way across. This allows for proper Air Flow under and around the outside of the Coils for a more even and full Vapor production and maximum Flavor without risk of Flood. Not doing so would force all the Air Flow from the Air Slots underneath the Coils toward the inside Area of the Coils only leading to uneven vaporization, premature degradation of the Coils, resulting in less than stellar Vape & Flavor which this RTA is known for and capable of.
I like to take my time and be meticulous with the Build, Wick, and Dress Processes. OCD-Probably/Absoultely. But, a firm Believer in the old Adage; "Ya Get OUT-What ya Put IN".
Besides, this ain't no Race. It's a Therapeutic Hobby. Heckuva lot cheaper than a Shrink too

.
Hope this helps someone with the Russian 3.0 they have or in making the decision to get one of these Beasts. You won't be disappointed
