I realize this probably isn't the best forum for this sort of question but I can only post here, so here goes:

I have a Russian 91% (kayfun equivalent) and have done multiple builds on it. I have used two different methods. For one, I wrap 28 gauge kanthal wire in opposing directions and connect diagonally to both posts. For the second, I wrap in the standard fashion, connect to both posts and slightly raise microcoil. I'm wrapping to 0.8 ohms.

Long story short, no matter which build method I use, I seem to get a burnt taste, harsh throat hit, and little vapor. I check for hot spots before assembly. Any help is appreciated. 90 dollar rba and hate not getting anything out of it.

Sounds like you're burning your juice.
Here's a build I like a lot. Good smoke and great flavor. You could go 6 wraps of 30ga and probably come out around 1.3 ohms. Personally, I wouldn't sub ohm with a Russian or KFL.
Good luck!

I'm not sure how you are building it but make sure after you screw the first of the two pieces that cover the wick that you push the wicks down before screwing the final piece on. Also when you fill your liquid and put the top cap on.. put it on 1/2 way then turn the whole tank upside down.. let the liquid settle on the "top" now bottom before you screw it in the rest of the way. This creates a suction that will help the wicking process.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-g3jH7Ar6E This video is for the 3.1 but it works the same way. I hope that helps. IF you still get dry hits.. look at the end of that video.. you can put your finger on the holes to get it jet a little more suction into the wick area.

Information is incorrect. Flipping allow channels to be out of e-liquid path so top may be tightened without pushing e-liquid into wick chamber and flooding.

Your complaint screams of to much wick material or your resistance and supplied power are way out of wack.

Without further information it is all a guess.
Coil Resistance?
Device powering Russian?
Volts or Watts set?

Hi. I am wondering why sub ohm? Just curious. I am going to attach a couple pics of a build I like to use on my rocket, (very similar to the Russian). This build is a vertical micro coil. 10 wraps of 32 gauge Kanthal on a 1.4mm screwdriver. This setup is truly an awesome vape. Notice, I do not wick the inside of my coil as it is directly in line with the air intake.

I'm getting the same harsh hits. Not dry hits just harsh throat hits. It's not the juice (12% I think 60/40) as I can use it on other atty.'s and it's fine.

I'm running Russian 91 @ 1.2 ohms on a neme (mech) w/ diagonal signal coil probably a 4 wrap (not micro). I'm pretty sure I'm doing 2.5mm eko (possible 3mm). I'm curious if the coil is too loose or too tight after reading the above. Is there any recommendations on what drill bit to use for 2.5mm eko and 3.0mm eko?
