Safe to vape in the house when I have kids???

I just got my 510 in the mail today and I was wondering if it was safe to use it in the house because I have two kids (3yrs and 8mo)? I didnt plan on vaping in front of them but I wanted to make sure there was no health risk for them say if I vape in the kitchen when they are only a room away. Sorry if someone thinks this is a dumb question but I really need to know for my kids safety. Thanks

I'm gonna go ahead and say that if you blow it in their face they might giggle.

I'd be surprised if anyone is willing to give you a green light when it comes to kids.
Not that we have ANY concrete reason to think anything other than that it is safe.

It's just that nobody is willing to commit because there are no studies to give warm fuzzies.

If you are concerned, you might want to research.
You will need to make your own decision.

I have no kids, so everything is really easy for me to say.
But I would say that if it were me, I would make them giggle.

The liquid used in an e-cigarette contains:
  • USP-grade PG (Propylene Glycol) – used in food flavorings, cosmetics, the artificial “smoke” at rock concerts, and, yes, antifreeze. [No, we are not inhaling antifreeze (shudder), just one of its ingredients.] NOTE: Some people are allergic to PG (e.g., a rash or sore throat, but nothing serious). They should use…
  • And/or USP-grade VG (Vegetable Glycerin – more syrupy, and derived from veggies)
  • Plus a selectable amount of nicotine (derived from tobacco)
  • Plus flavoring (derived from different types of tobacco and/or food/candy flavorings).
Above snipped from DonDaBoomVape's e-cig primer.

My son (he's 15) is thrilled I'm not smoking anymore. I do it in the house with him and it "appears" there aren't any ill effects. However....

This is obviously a decision you need to make for yourself. I think anybody, myself included, would hate to give you advice on this and have one of your children get sick or something. I would take the stand, if you wouldn't smoke a cigarette near them, you probably shouldn't vape near them until more studies are done. Kids are still physically developing after all.

Maybe confine your vaping to a room they don't go in? I don't think the vapor or any remaining exhaled nicotine lingers, but who knows?

I would be more concerned about them getting into the liquid I think.

I am in total agreement with DC it is to big of a Rope Bridge for even Indiana Jones to cross when it comes to the safety of Vaping... We can only give you our personal experiences and hope you make the right choice for you..

I myself have often wondered if it was as scentless as they said and so one day while my dog (chihuahua) was laying on my chest while i was leaned back in my Lazy boy i blew some of the vapor from my E-cig right in his face to see if he would react and i was amazed at the fact he just kept starring at me...

So if you take the fact that dogs have one of the best noses in the world and he didnt budge when i blew the vape in his face i wouldn't worry to much around my kids BUT that is just my opinion

There isn't any evidence that I know of that it would hurt them but why take the chance. I would think it would be fine to use in the same room but I wouldn't blow it in their face. I don't even blow it in my cats faces.

I use mine around my 2 month old nephew but I usually don't use it when I'm holding him, just to be safe.

Why take any unnecessary risk at all with your children? Just because vapor disperses quickly doesn't mean it's not still in the air, just that it's diluted enough that we can't see it anymore. Go do some heavy vaporizing in your car with the windows rolled up on a sunny day...it'll look like a smokehouse.

Confining it to a room away from the kids seems reasonable, though an attic might be better than a basement, since the vapor rises.

My GodSon's Dad was ALWAYS against me and my wife (his cousin) smoking cigarettes near his son. I'm talking serious......he would ask us to walk out to the end of his driveway. BUT, since we started vaping and he has done some research online about vaping, he has no problems with us vaping in front of his son. That is just our experience though.

I don't know about the health risks around children, but it is nicotine and I wouldn't do it in front of them, (just my preference) cause the little darlings want to do everything you do! I have a young grandchild. The nicotine is still an issue and I'd make sure your liquid is kept locked up or up very high out of there reach.

I agree - I try to avoid vaping (or smoking, prior to discovering e-cigs) in front of children. It's a different world now - when I was a kid, Fred Flintstone sold Winstons on TV.

Certainly not a dumb question. I also have two young ones and have wondered the same myself.
To be on the safe side, I treat vaping pretty much like smoking of old, as in out in the garage.

When I first got my ecig I did try it in the house the first night and the next day there definitely was a noticeable odor in the house. Nothing like smoke but a slight chemical type of smell.

And, I know people say it dissipates rather quickly but it's got to go somewhere. Probably dilutes enough to be hardly noticeable but I will say you can see a fog in the garage when I'm out there vaping :)

i vape around my son, wouldn't smoke around him though. I would never blow it in his face, isn't there nicotine residue in the vapor? no matter what, its just rude! lol but for a medical opinion, i would take the ingredients list and talk to your md about it

I agree.

My wife and I vape in front of our son.

It would be way too crazy vaping outdoors, since we only take a "drag" or 2 every 10-15 minutes.

Kinda silly to dress up warm to go outside for something like that.

I think secondhand vape :))) is fairly innocuous when compared to even mildly threatening toxins.

In all honesty, I don't worry about the 2nd hand nicotine. It's far far less than regular smoke. PG vapor seems to be harmless to mammals as well (going with any of the studies done on PG vapor).

The only concern I have is the flavoring. No one really knows the types of chemical reactions being created with the heating of these chemicals and inhalation.

But since I imagine the FDA, cancer society, or ANYONE (such as; Big Tobacco) with a vested interest would've certainly produced something conclusive by now (if there were any realized danger), leads me to believe their are NO definitive health risks or even concerns of health risks by those who can test for them.

Does this mean I think e-cigs are risk free? nope. But it sure makes me wonder why the people that have the resources prefer to lean on rumors and conjecture instead of actual evidence. It all sounds like they're covering their a$$es, or are acting out of greed, or worry of offending people that have been trained that smoke coming out of someone's mouth is the 8th deadly sin.

End of the driveway, huh? That's a little paraniod. Nobody is going to say OK because of the liability. At least, being a physician, I'm not going to. So, consider that glycerin is a common food additive and harmless to those around you. When you vape, it goes to the bloodstream (doesn't matter if you inhale it or ingest it), and is metabolized into glucose. Flavorings go the same route as if they were added to food (except tobacco). Nicotine is present in exhaled vapor to such an insignificant level that I wouldn't be concerned. In real cigs, most of the nic is oxidized (burned up) & you get about 1 mg. inhaled, of which a surprising 98% is absorbed, and about 2% exhaled. The problem with tobacco is all the other crap exhaled. While it hasn't been studied, I suspect that the vast majority is absorbed with e-cigs too, and extremely little trace amounts are exhaled. I would stay away from tobacco flavors since they come from an extract from tobacco and vaporizing it (heat) may well produce unwanted chemical bi-products of oxidation. In my opinion, vaping unflavored (or food flavoring), med-low nic, with a glycerin & distilled water base is about as harmless as steaming vegatables on a stove. The anti-smoking lobby has been very effective in scaring folks into over-reacting. Even a real cig smoked in a 100k sq. ft. super market is far less significant than the fumes you breath walking down the cleaning product isle. If you are real concerned, stay out of traffic jams....that's where fumes get significant.
