Hey everybody!

I'm Mac, I've smoked since the age of 15, & I am 28 years old now & still an avid smoker.

What I want from vaping: To be able to always get a buzz from nicotine, similar to the buzz I used to get when I first started smoking cigarettes, that buzz which vanished after a couple years of constant use, that buzz which was the only reason I enjoyed smoking from the get-go.

Some background on my habit: I do not smoke cigarettes anymore, when I did I was probably a four to five packs a week smoker, I have smoked dokha now strictly for roughly the last two years as it gets me a better buzz which is what smoking has always been about for me, I get some really great Iranian stuff that on a good morning will hit me like a truck on the freeway, I love getting that level of fix, but I hate the feeling of someone sitting on my chest or that occasional pinched feeling in my back or arm that would follow me for a couple weeks before vanishing & returning at its leisure, it’s those aches you get from smoking too much. With that being said I went from smoking dokha every thirty minutes throughout the day (about 30 bowls a day) to every three hours about a year ago (about 6 bowls a day), I tried cutting this back to every six hours (to make it 3 bowls a day) a couple days ago... but it's been tough & I've relapsed to my every three hour regimen.

I love smoking, part of me wants to quit for the health reasons, but I love gettin' my fix & it's not something I want to give up, I know it's selfish... but it's the one thing I do that I truly enjoy, & really it's the only thing I ever do for myself (I'm sure that sounds horrible), a good smoke in good company is enough to make me a happy person in life, I don't need much else to have a good time.

Today I joined this forum in the hopes of finding the right apparatus for me, hopefully I find something that can deliver to me the right amount of nicotine & possibly keep me from smoking tobacco for the foreseeable future, it's like I said, smoking for me is about gettin' the buzz, gettin' that fix, & if I can do that in a healthier way then I'm all for it.

Anywho, thank you for reading & thank you for having me!

Hi and welcome!

You used the word "buzz" and awful lot and I have some bad news for you, vaping is not smoking. There are ingredients, in addition to nicotine, present in cigarettes and dokha that have an affect on your body, which are not in e-liquids. There is also combustion that results in carbon monoxide in your blood stream. You're not going to get the "buzz" you seem to be looking for.

Sad, but true.

I see, & I certainly understand that vaping is not smoking, but surely there is a "buzz" from the nicotine delivered to the body.

So what kind of sensation does this produce then? If not a buzz, then how would you describe it? What's the draw of vaping for you?

welcome to ECF Mac Houlihan ... most vapers here on ECF, ended up here because we are quitting a long term smoking habit ... many have developed a hobby with vaping ... most of the cloud chasers and rebuilders use low level nicotine or zero nic.

very few people are looking for a buzz from vaping.

Cheers and Merry Christmas

Primarily, it keeps me from going into nicotine withdrawal: irritability, anxiety, depression, headaches, difficulty sleeping, inability to concentrate, and the list goes on. My craving for cigarette wasn't because it provided a pleasurable sensation, it was because it kept the unpleasant ones at bay.

Vaping has curbed most of my cigarette cravings, by providing nicotine and satisfying the hand-to-mouth stimulation my brain associates with it. I admit, vaping is fun. There are pretty plumes of vapor, lots of juices to try and tons of toys to play with. It's the combination of distraction from cigarette smoking and coping with my addiction that keeps me vaping.

Sorry Mac,
The biggest draw for me is the 4000 less toxic chemicals,
Still get a "vibe" with 24 mg nic.....

Cancer survivor,
after 45+ years,
dumped the analogs....
so far that is the "buzz" for me.
May even see my 18 month old granddaughter graduate college,
and get married.
D***ed if I will miss that

I hear you, that's a large part of why I'm looking into this as an alternative, my Aunt in ATL got cancer a few years back & every single time I smoke I think of how I could be in that position next, I want to grow old with my wife & be a happy person around my family & friends, but when I don't smoke I become Mr. Grumpy Man & no one wants to be around him, my kids shouldn't have to grow up with a grouch.

That list reads like something out of my own sketchpad, but it is definitely about the pleasurable sensation for me in unison with the other factors (e.g. removing feelings of withdrawal: irritability, anxiety, depression, even anger), it’s absolutely for keeping the unpleasant ones in check.

Looking around the forums I found this:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...-does-vaping-make-you-feel-normal-high-2.html

Some people do get a "high" from it, a "buzz", I don’t even know if those are the right words for it though, the only way I’m going to find out if it's a viable option for me is giving it a try, I really just want to be able to function & feel good without having to smoke anymore, it’s the feeling that nicotine provides me that makes it so hard to let go.

Edit: I believe I've gotten all the answers I need for now, I appreciate everyone's thoughts & opinions, thank you for sharing & thank you for your time & consideration. Merry Christmas, y'all!

P.S. - Props to Sthur for pointing me in the right direction for starting on this adventure!

I also vape to stay away from cigarettes. The nicotine in e-cigs curbs my desire to start smoking again. I actually prefer vaping because of all the known cons to smoking - health risks, the high costs, the smell, the repulsion to non-smokers, etc.

I don't know anyone who takes up vaping for a buzz or a fix. It's more for curbing nicotine withdrawal and avoiding smoking.

Sometimes it takes a life-changing event to stop smoking. The very week my mother found out she had terminal cancer I found my very first e-cigarette. I began vaping and found that I would be able to substitute my smoking with the e-cigarette.

My mother died within 2 weeks of discovering she had cancer, and within 2 days of learning it was not treatable. She had melanoma of her liver, 80% full of tumor. She was 84, still driving and active in the community, still playing the piano for the little country church that I grew up in.

Her quick and unexpected death to cancer forced me to accept my own mortality. I have two teenage children. I want to be able to see them marry and have grandchildren for me. If I had continued smoking I'm quite certain I may not have seen that. This gave me the extra motivation to stop smoking. Vaping was the only way this was possible.
