I am using the non-abrasive Scotch-Brite pad and it works great. Excellent wicking.
The pad is stiff. Be sure to insert it with the "hard sides" (the outside of the pad) facing down in to the cart. If you pinch the pad one way it is "springy". That is the way you want to insert it. The other way is hard and offers resistance.

Thought I'd chime in here to say I went out and bought some generic scouring pads exactly as pictured on page one, though mine are in a variety of colours, but otherwise exactly the same thing. They work great! They're much more porous than the standard filler, but not so much that it leaks. It grabs the liquid perfectly without absorbing it, and it wicks extremely well. No strange taste or smell, doesn't get caught on the bridge of the atty (big problem with the small-plug-plus-straw mod), holds a decent amount of liquid, and it's relatively maintenance-free. Plus, I can get 10 of these pads for a buck at the dollar store and make at at least a couple hundred fillers out of them, so it's dirt cheap and easy.

Awesome.
