after many reviews of the fabled "cadillac of the e-cigs" i decided to buy my own screwdriver at a mere 100$ from totally wicked. i've had it for two days now and am not impressed whatsoever. within this same order i had also bought a titan mini for my girlfriend for 35$ which works pretty damn amazing. The titan mini works like an improved DSE 901 and produces good plumes with exceptional throat hit. i thought i'd be one upping her when we both opened our packages and took our first hits but was defeated by a supposed inferior product. i thought there must be a tweak for the screwdriver like a perfect balance of dropping without flooding, or the use of carts. I have found no such luck and have experienced weak hits time and time again. with earlier e-cigs i have found there is almost a trick to getting a desired result. I thought that the screwdriver was supposed to alleviate any tips and tricks portion of any e-cig forum, but was sadly mistaken.
so after only two days, here's what made me want to rant and rave about this garbage product. The button at the top is poorly constructed. its a simple plastic button that screws into a metal contactor with a spring. I don't think any reviews mention that the button unscrews a little bit every time you use it. the kit comes with a cap that fits over the button to prevent accidental activation of the atomizer. anyway, the button unscrewed a bit unbeknownst to me and i put on the cap and slipped the SD into my hoodie pocket. with the button unscrewed a bit and the cap on, it activated the atomizer. i went to pull my SD out of my pocket a few minutes later and burnt the crap out of my hand because apparently the atomizer had been burning non-stop since i put the cap on. my atomizer melted thus rendering the SD useless.
I couldn't wait to get home to my DSE 901.
thanks for nothing Trog.

I've had my SD for months. To be fair, I COULDN'T use if for about a month because shortly after I received it, I lost the button spring and it took me that long to get around to ordering a replacement.

But, I got the spring quite a while back. Although I like the looks of the SD, in the time it was out of service I got TorneGo'ized. Previously, I was unimpressed with 510s. But, the TorneGo with LR Atomizers, and the Mega cylinder atomizers and Mega cartos switched me. And, the SD just hasn't really been used much since. Like you, I'm not fond of the button/button cap, even when it is working correctly.

User error does not necessarily mean a bad product. I took advantage of a BOGOF sale on the MKI and outside of not liking the RN4075 atomiser found the performance of the SD quite satisfactory with a 510 atty. Mind you I did use a real screwdriver to snug up the button, upon receipt. Something I am sure you would have done as well if you had done your homework. I have not had a button come loose in over 4 months of use.

The only differences between the MKI and MKII is the overall body is slightly bigger to accommodate the 18350 batt I believe, and the button protector. Otherwise they are the same unit. At 100gr of force to activate the button, yeah it will go off in your pocket, if not stored properly (which in most cases should always be without the atty). I changed the spring on mine to a slightly heavier one for the unit I use outside the home. It has never gone off in my pocket with the heavier spring and the button has never come undone on either of my units. Mind you not having a button protector (MKI doesn't come with one) I did not solely rely on its function to prevent accidental misfires in ones pocket.

go ahead and send it back and get yourself something that will hit the spot. I find the 510 attie to perform a lot better than most atties... but this is a subjective thing. A lot of people swear by the screwdriver and Trog is one of the leading mod makers... but it sounds like its not for you. There are other styles of mods that may work better for you. Don't give up quite yet.... I'm sure you will find a really good mod that will definantly blow away any regular ecig battery.

Same as you dtmack, it was my first mod and I thought its peformance was the way is works. Then I got an eGo and a GG. Man different story. I damage the Screwdriver by mistake and asked Wicked if I could buy a replacement part. They didn’t even try to help or contact manufacture. They said I would have to buy a new one. They lost a customer and I’m hanging with the other two. Keep reading all you can here and compare. You’ll find the right one.

The SD is a a 3.7 volt device no better in terms of throat hit than the e-cig you bought for your g/f just longer battery life.I think the screw driver was the caddillac of e-cigs say about one and a half years ago.so like everyone said read up and dont give up just don't jump on the first mod you see. I too have spent tons of money and have been mad at a product SO TRUST ME YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE who has had this happen too...

The SD is pretty simple unit. But like brady said, its a 3.7 volt like everything else. It used to be the only 900mah battery out there. Perhaps its a bit outdated now, But i still use mine daily with a 901 LR atty. Those 4075 atties it comes with take a minute to get a good flavor going. The button screw is a pain, but I put a piece of a straw in mine, and it kinda sealed it, so never unscrewed itself again. Past that, its really only about battery life. For me, its all about that chrome too. But when I bought my first SD I thought it would be like a 5v too, and was let down. Its not trogs fault, just how they are promoted.

... absolutely. Outside of battery life it doesn't hit any better than my P18, and my P18 only slightly better. teh difference 29 hrs per charge vice 6 hrs. In its day, 6-8 hrs per batt was a far kick better than 1-1.5 hrs on a stock batt.

WRT the RNs, they shine at 5V - 4.6 under load.

When Trog built the Screwdriver it was the first and only mod around,It was pretty cool.Things change quickly in the ecig world.
True, but the stubborn old goat never followed through. I got to give him props for integrity though.

FWIW

3.6V batt+3.5-3.6Ohm atty (RN4075) = 3.6watts of power (original design), well below the sweet spot, but better than what was out there.

Today

3.7V batt + 2.2Ohm atty (stock) = 6.1 watts :D

Am I missing something here?

DT was stating his opinion and experience. Indicating he hadn't done his homework is neither here nor there and I don't think he should be attacked and I'm a bit peeved and disappointed on this one. We were all noobs at one time or another, and I appreciate the help when I've asked for it, it has been a godsend.

Things can and do happen to all of us, having it in his pocket doesn't constitue storage in my book and not knowing all of the nuances of a particular model doesn't mean he hasn't done his homework.

Just my :2c: but felt I needed to say it.

I would say we all learn something everyday about this or that.I am not attacking anyone here or would I ever.I just think in my opinion TWICKED should better educate people on their products so someone new doesn't get screwed.ohh wait overpriced,no customer service whatsoever I guess that could be there selling points and not to mention the so called sales they have retail price 200.00 dollars but till dec its 125.00 dollars to me they are no better than a mall Kiosk...now thats my opinion though others might love twicked and if i have offended I am sorry...

I agree with you 100%. Carrying a device in my pocket is no different than setting it on the coffee table between hits and it's a stretch for me to think of that as storage. And at that price, I should not have to modify in order to make it operate safely the way it's supposed to. If using a particular device requires hours of research into tips and tricks not included in the operating instructions, there's something wrong with the device, thereby making it worthy of a bad review.

No Bradyo, you're fine, you didn't offend me. I quoted the poster who I was peeved at, imparting your comments/experience is one thing but for them to imply that they didn't do the proper amount of researching is another. Did that make any sense?

I have only been at this for 6 months, and it is something I knew before I ordered it at 1.5 months into vaping. Considering the tone of the OP, he just got back something in the same tone. That is all.

Notwithstanding TW's reputation, it was not the device. There is nothing wrong with the device perse. :toast:

I bought the dse-905 screwdriver that doesn't have the button on the bottom. I did a review on it. Bought it from vapordogs for like 55 bucks and I love it for at home vaping. There are different versions of the screwdriver and from what I've seen, a lot of people like the one as much as I do.
There is only two versions of the "original" Screwdriver the MKI and the MKII and the only difference between the two is the battery they use and the MKII has a button protector. Unlike the MKI, the MKII only comes with a native 901 connection while the MKI came in either: 901; 801; or 510. Thatis it in a nutshell.

OTOH the DSE905 or Nomad sometimes even branded the "screwdriver" is in version 3 and maybe version 4. The latter versions have been improved upon.

The difference between the real and the knockoffs? Real = all mechanical, knockoffs = electronic components. All things being equal, a 3.7V device will vape like any other 3.7V device, regardless of the hype we see on the forums.
