Here's what I experienced... once I had it built right, without the mesh shorting to the post in the tank, the hardest part was getting the coil to burn evenly... and that's where I had to spend the most amount of time. Once I "got it", it came to life, and I KNEW it was right... but that didn't last... but once I knew what it looked like, it was easy to repeat...

Maybe it IS luck, it could be, but I think with enough patience pretty much anybody CAN develop the "luck" needed... but ONLY if it's built right in the first place... if it's not, the luck will probably never happen.

Beautiful...that worked, sure enough. I ended up with it at an angle, though, so I'll mess around with some other fixes...maybe try some regular dead atomizers and such. First I have to deal with killing all the shorts, but that's something I can handle. Thanks!

Well, I just fixed my positive post short by pulling up a bit with needlenose pliers. But basically that is showing me that my positive post is really now kinda loose in the plastic that is in the hole there.... Mine is wicking better after sitting a day, but still not really well.

It's interesting that the topic of building it the proven way was mentioned again, as this post shows how problems can develope from deviating from the proven way.

I see a potential problem with using the 1/8" long sleeve bushings that I posted about earlier...

These bushings will leave an 1/8" gap between them were the wick goes through the body. I believe that this 1/8" gap along the wick inside the body will cause a wicking issue. Meaning, as the juice travels up the wick, when it hits this gap inside the body it will expand to fill the gap and prevent the juice from wicking to the top of the wick.

I ordered some of the 3/8" long Nylon Sleeve Flange Bushings from Mc-Master-Carr part #91145a118 to try instead as they will fill the hole along the wick the whole way through the body just like the bic pen tube.

I never thought that one day I would use one of my smallest drill bits to drill out the end of a bic pen to make the inside diameter larger.

It works, however you need to go slow, as not to melt the plastic. I drilled them out while holding the pen in my hand, not while inserted in the hole of the sgv3 body.

I never used the drilled out pen tube...

I ordered some Nylon Sleeve Flange Bushings from Mc-Master-Carr part # 91145A110.

I use four of them, two in the top and two in the bottom.

I had to trim the shoulder on one side for the two I used on the bottom to get them insterted.

Here is the specs on the part. the inside dia ia 0.090"

Interesting factoid. My 4" wick shrunk 1/4 inch in length during boiling.

edit: Nope, wasn't happening during boil, happened during rolling.

edit2: cannot reproduce. or measure either apparently.

Jim. I used smaller o rings. 11/16od x 9/16 id. Got them at lowes. (#015)
No need to bevel tubes. Seals fine.

Just received an order today from RTD Vapor and as I was hoping their SS drip tip is a good fit for the scubagen top! The mouth is pretty small - wouldn't be good for dripping but for this, perfect. 510 Stainless Steel Drip Tip

Here's a novel thought... and maybe I'm just being silly, but you COULD try building the way it was designed. Several folks have managed to make it work by actually following the directions!

if you had actually read all the posts I have done, I DID do it exactly as the directions posted. I'm having trouble with it, I've read all the posts, and several of them have described my exact problem, so as a result, I'm trying alternate solutions. it's possible I'm an absolute idiot, and can't follow simple directions, or it could be I'm lying through my teeth, and just want some attention, or it could be that I can't roll the mesh as tight as dan, or it could be that my black cat walked in front of me when I brought them in with the mail.

Well, rolled a new wick, fiddled a bit, had something in the way of the right behavior for a few minutes, went to pull the wick up a little to make absolutely sure it wasn't touching the body, and the negative post pulled out. Put it back in and the positive post pulled out. Goodnight ladies!

Thank you Dan. These two videos show me I'm doing pretty darned good on those steps, which helps me isolate where my problem is not. I was pretty sure I needed a more solid build on my posts and now I'm really sure!

I have a few boxes of assorted o-rings...I just upped the size of the O-ring in my driptip...bingo no more slippage...

I'm not having problems with my build...just making sure the one I send to my friend works good for him...those 2 vids should guarantee he has no problems with his...Thank you Dan now I don't have to make instructionals for him...You do a much better job at that than I do ...

Or you COULD be so frustrated by this build that my weak attempt at cynical humor ticked you off when I meant you no ill will... Sorry, I didn't realize emotions were running so high here... I'm truly sorry!

Sure...

When I put the coil on it and fired it up, the first and last coil were glowing...the middle ones were not. So I remembered a post from dan where he said if they are not glowing evenly, move them slightly with a toothpick, so while firing the PV, I poked at them sliding them on the wick... This was a cat and mouse game... One coil would glow, then the next, then the other but not the first, then only the end ones again... Frustrating, but eventually they all fired, and when they did, they dimmed down... Suddenly all the resistance was available and she sizzled like a filet mignon on the grill...

What I realized was the really bright glow of one or two coils indicates a short, the lesser even glow indicates all us well... Once that fell into place it became easy to "tweak" it with the toothpick. It needed a fair amount of fiddling the first day. The second day was better but not trouble free... Today I vaped 10ml without having to touch the coil at all.
