Wow Dan, "easier said than done", "kinda strenuous"; with plungers and vented screws this one looks quite a bit more complicated for the average co-op member. Product support would be out the roof!

A quick question, with a DSU can you get away with using a shorter wick? It seems one could recycle used wicks from upright configurations by trimming off the oxidized part and using what was previously going to the bottom of the tank in an upright configuration.

I too am excited about the DSU. But I think that pelting Dan with requests for a coop is nonproductive. I want one too, but I think that it is a) premature and b) we we need to figure out a way for the coops to be less strenuous on the coop leader, whoever it is.

Mostly, lets give him some time to test the newest version of the DSU and try to help him with any issues\problems he encounters.

My 3cents.

I agree 100%......give it time and help set up a plan to make it easier this time around.

Is the Scubagen supposed to be a cool vape? Mine puts out tons of good vapor, but even at 5.4v it is a very cool vape...

I have checked out everything and everything looks good. There's little more than an eighth of an inch clearance between the posts and the top cap. 4 wraps on 400 SS Mesh with 32ga Kanthal.

The thing that changes the temp the most is the size of the chamber it happens in. I cut my to piece of poly down to .75" and now it has a nice hot vapor. The other thing that affects the temp allot is the air flow the harder the draw the hotter the hit. If you work with these two things first than adjust the coil it is much easier to get the perfect vape.

Glad to hear you've figured it out. :)

I've been using my eGo batteries to run my Genisis atty.

It doesn't seem like you need much more voltage than that to run the genisis atty with 3~4 wraps.

:2c:

I've been tuning and testing. Goes much better when you have a working ohmmeter. I'm at 5 wraps, 1.8 ohms and 2.99 volts. Lower watts 5-6 are usually my spot and I like this spot. Its a cool vape here, good vapor with almost no throat hit off 24mg juice, but I like it.

Very nice. I like a cool vape as well, but with some TH. I run something close for resistance at 3.9V. The vapor is a bit warmer than I like but TH is good and taste is through the roof.

Actually, I would say the DSU5 is an easier build than the scubagen, while it may have more moving parts, the concept is for metering the air and juice flow. I have been playing with it for 3 days now and I must say I like it. I have tuned it into the correct air to juice flow. So when I inhale, the juice that is used is replenised by controlling the air flow. I found an airy draw does not create a sufficiant enough vacumn to replenish the juice expended. By regulating the air flow I can determine the juice flow. A stiffer draw increases juice flow, whereas a lighter draw slows down the juice flow. It is just like a carborator. And it is working quite well!

As for the wick, I am only using a wick that is 3/4" long, I removed the SS roll from the juice intake hole and have found that the SS wick is enough mesh resistance that I need.

Also a solderless atty will probably appeal to most people.

Dan, don't get me wrong, I really like it. For those that know how, it's a real treat. It just _sounds_ more complicated to build- Hey with regulating airflow and juice feed, it sounds like where we were a year ago with the suckaton :D

LOL too true, however with the suckaton you litterally had to suck your brains out to get the juice up there LOL, at least with this it is fully adjustable with a replacable coil :)

Baby steps . . . . all in the right direction - FORWARD!

It's quite fascinating to see the progress of the mods over the past year.

Do you guys remember when the majority of the modding took place on the cartridge? "Blue foam", "pyramid tea bag".... ring a bell? lol.

It's nice to see the cumulative efforts of many individuals work together to a common goal.

Keep it up!

Nice mod b.t.w. Dan! It looks too big to carry in my pocket though.... lol

Unless I'm constantly happy to see her.........

I have it work's like a dream.

I've reached a certain level of frustration with the SS wick and need to try something else. So, do you have any tips on trying Nextel ceramic as a wick in the SG3? I'm assuming that plastic insulators in the wick holes would no longer be needed, I also recall that the wick should be heat treated to remove residue. Anything else of interest you could pass on?

LOL, well I decided to change directions again.... I did not like the air flow adjustment, thought someone might unscrew it too far and then it would fall off. Soooooo I went with an external ring and o-ring combo. when unscrewed the oring would cover the air intake holes. And I made the atty connector removable for maintenance, but can be tighted down so it does not move. So I am up to 5 SS pieces now (including the mouth piece). Here are a couple pics, CAD and Cut away:

LOL, yep this will be ideration 6 :)
And this one will be all SS with the battery connector tooled and threaded in. So this one should be fun!
Just ordered the 1/2-32 tap and dies for it today. I will be off tomorrow waiting on my home inspection for my recharging station for my Nissan Leaf that should be here in 3 months :)
So.... I got time on my hands in the AM waiting.... Ill be at the lathe if anyone needs me :)

Can't argue with progress! My GGTS has the airflow control ring, only opposite of your idea. All the way down closes the air off, and the more you open it....the more airflow. An o-ring inside the ring lines up over the holes when closed. Works great, and glad to see you adding that in the design!

Just remember......I called the prototype...... if it goes anywhere! :p
