Did I miss the announcement of another co-op?? If so, I'm in!! LOL

But there again....would like to see a shorter version.

With the tubing it can be any length you want, just have to cut the tubes to fit for poly tubing, the pyrex ones are not so easy.

What's the chances of a different design for the posts? Threaded insert for the positive post for insulating the connection, and a tapped hole for the negative?

Of course, I am asking this without seeing the design so I may have missed this info. Just thinking it would be easier for the modding challenged folks that get involved and would raise the success rate a little.

Yeah you have not been following along LOL
All post are threaded, the pos will have a threaded nylon or poly insert, and the negitive one is tapped. The screws are all vented, and the positive post screws through to a center disk that connects the positive power. No soldering.

Nice vid Dan , I am so not trying that. Your wife walked past the door three times and didn't seem to care in the slightest. That would not be the situation in my house.

LOL, I have a VERY supportive wife, it was close to din din time and she was just checking on my progress. Step one in modding find a supportive spouse!!!! :)

Mine didn't even blink when she walks out in the backyard at night and sees that I have caught cement on fire. Just asks her question and goes back in the house! I think you and I are very lucky in that regard!

Dan, did I miss the breakthrough on how to cut the pyrex reliably without it cracking?

Not really a break through, but I put it in the lathe and spun it in reverse, and then used a dremel with a cutting wheel for metal and scored it almost all the way through, then snapped it off. I can get the tubing length the way I want acurratly that way with out cracking.

Both pieces (inner and outer tubes) made from pyrex tubing:

Oh yeah I know what you mean! Tile can suck... LOL Will probably offer both in the kit.

Nice video! What does that torch use for fuel?

It uses a propylene fuel cylinder:

Ar first I didn't like the pyrex idea but now I'm thinking it is kinda cool. Could etch some stuff on there to customize the DSU.

Well pyrex is a PITA to work with, but I found that the inner tube in the combustion section will turn cloudy over time from the heat from the coil, pyrex will not be affected this way.

I wonder how dificult it would be to find SS tube of the proper dimensions to fit this. On first google I was unable to locate SS tube with identical dimensions.

I LOVE the see through thing, but I would like to have the option of an all SS version for when I am out "roughing it". Not saying this is something you should have to think about Dan. Just looking for myself LOL

Hey you just gave me an IDEA! How about a SS cover for the combustion section and a small pyrex tube that connects the top mouth piece to the SS combustion chamber? Would be easier to work with straigh pieces of pyrex tubing or could be all SS or a combination of SS, Pyrex or poly, depending on what the user was doing.
Wheels are spinning....

LOL, well this is an evolving process...
How does this look:
Shield.jpg
This would be the SS combustion shield, with this you could connect what ever tube length you want and any type of material, SS, Pyrex, Poly, Acrylic etc.... There would be an oring in there that you would insert the 1/4"OD x XXX"ID tubing into. And going a step further you could use any tubing for the outside tube you wanted, if you want it all SS that is up to you :)

Well wada yall think?
