MY rule of thumb on mesh size.
If the mesh hole is 3.1mm (Like The scubagen) cut mesh to around 31mm.
Eg: line hole is 2.5mm, cut mesh around 25mm.
Hole 2.0mm = 20mm, of mesh.
This is MY magic recipe for mesh.

I do 40mm on my line, maybe I use a smaller paper clip, but 40 goes in easily and vapes great at HV.
Going to try the larger wick on my GTUS today.

I don't use anything to roll with.
I use plain mechanical 3.7v mods only.
Heck, I don't even measure my mesh anymore lol. I just roll it and wrap it.
More mesh @ higher voltage is good, more mesh @ 3.7 wicks to good and just Burns the liquid. Imo.

Gentlemen (and ladies if there are any),

I have not had one single short circuit or hot spot on any of my wicks.

I'm of the opinion that most shorts are caused by the frail edges of the mesh' edge where it's cut with either scissors or a blade. The following picture is not that of the mesh we use but I think proves a point. Any one of those sharp ends of the woven wire on the edge can cause a short.

Basically what I do is to cut the mesh to size with sharp scissors and then fold one edge over (about 2mm or 0.1" - for those metrically impaired ones). I flatten the fold properly with my nail or any flat and blunt object. You start rolling the wick from the opposite side of the folded section so that the fold (and the cut edge) ends up inside the wick when done. This way you prevent any frail and sharp edges (even if they are small - remember it's tiny wire segments making up the mesh) to stick out and cause a short onto the resistance wire. Something like this:

Hope it helps a bit. :)

You can also try it like this: Wicks like a rain water gutter downhill.

EXACTLY!.... I have posted this video on making the wick back in August of last year, been folding edges ever since.

I cut 1", boil the wicking material, fold the edge and crimp, I use a wire from ipod headphones to roll (it is nice and flexible) remove headphone wire and scorch with a butane torch quench with water heat again and quench with VG I repeat the VG quench 10-15 times I have tried 4-7 wraps it is a VERY cold vapor or it is harsh almost painful I don't want to discourage anyone I wish I was skilled enough to build a smaller version I think a smaller vapor chamber might make a difference.

How about rolling the mesh around a piece of momofilament fishing line? Then the wick could be bent to the shape before the line is removed without kinking. Also how about preoxidizing the resistance wire as is done with the mesh roll before wrapping to minimize shorting and break in period?

Those are all good ideas and work very well :) I have tried these before. ;)

Hello people,

Anyone have any update on the BFG? I keep looking for a repairable atty for my Reo and keep getting pointed here :)

Dan has to wrap up the co-op for the G-tank-US before he can start another project. It's hit too many snags due to machine shops not willing to do stuff right the first or second times. After that, Dan will get to it or not in his own good time. No one is gonna fault him if he takes some down time. Well, at least not publicly. :D

Hey thanks Mudflap, it's been your posts that have been pointing me here :). Seems like you are eagerly waiting for a rebuildable for your Reos too eh?

Worst thing about these threads is realizing that due to a rediculous decision on the part of the original genisis designer I'll never get one unless I win the classieds lottery, or the coop sign up race, and the last only applies if someone manages to put together another coop. Makes all the incredible neatness pretty depressing. Well, back to materials research to see if I can can hack together some kind of ugly ghetto copy of a scubagen 3, instead of just buying a nice well finished g-tank-us from a vendor that I trust and using my disposable income to ensure their continued economic survival. I seriously don't see how a straight up open source license wouldn't do more for the vaping community than this anti-capitalization garbage.

Well the other option would be that he may have just not shared the idea at all. Then we would all be in the dark and without an inkling of existence. And if you would just try a bit harder you could get one too. There are 200+ GTUS yet to ship hopefully within a month and some are bound to wind up in the classies. A buddy decided he wanted in about a month ago and managed to scoop up 3 in the classies, including one of the 22 that went out early, which he is undoubtedly vaping right now. You gotta work on that enthusiasm some, maybe throw in a touch of optimism

I'm sorry, I may as I said win the classifieds lottery, and here's hoping, but it doesn't make me any less disgusted with the way I have to go about doing it. I'm not in anyway trying to diminish what people are doing with these coops, but I wish they weren't necessary. If you find that offensive, then I can't help that, anymore than you can help me feel anti-capatilism isn't juvenile and offensive.

Cool, I don't see it as offensive, or I wouldn't have replied at all. Looking at the business end, raidy is a quite successful inventor in another industry, just look at his vacationing and travels. This would not be worth it to him and I personally see too much risk in investing in ecigs, either through possible regulation or competition. However, seeing others profit on his idea just doesn't cut it either. His next atty is said to be licensed for production and sold commercially, so we'll see.

As it is, there are a number of commercially sold rebuildables that you can simply adapt to mesh. If you have the mesh and kanthal, you are that much closer. It doesn't have to be that expensive or a hack job either, the cheap line version looks to be very entry level with minimal hacking needed.

If you are so inclined ..... You might ask Karmachine or Dan for the EMS files and have some more made on your own. Find Kar on vaper wall..... he is no longer with us due to a difference of opinion will the ECF Monarchy. I was right where you are about 8 months ago,..... I kept seeing all these awesome Vids and reviews and could not find any for sale. I was really feeling left out, not part of the club so to speak.....I often asked ppl where to learn the "secret hand shake" to get on a "list" Like I was from the projects and trying to get into the country club! Then I got a Scuba Gen V3, and now I have a Line V2, And two G tanks on the way with one to trade for a Genesis LV( gravity glass tank model). I refuse to spent 250$$$ on a oddy, I love my <GGT> But come on 250$$$ really. Try an Ato-Miser. Keep tabs on Poc and Zen for their new runs of Katana and Zenesis. I took me several months of thread stalking, an now I am doing a coop for Ghost Protocol accessory to the G-tank. if an pragmatic, antisocial ..... like me can become a member of "The Club" so can you...come on look at your screen name...."imsoenthused" can everyone else see the sarcasm dripping off .... LOL
