Hi,
i own a few original and clone RTAs, including a Taifun GT 2 clone, which i use all the time, and love for its durability.
But the Taifun clone is really big (7.5 cm / 2.593 inch including standard drip tip),
and looks (and feels) massive on the eVic VTC mini its mounted on.
I also removed the air flow control ring, so the whole setup looks a little bit like a piece of junk ;) - Not that i mind much about that, as long as it works nice.
I used that setup for over a year now, and it's time for a replacement.

I'm searching for a replacement rta which should be easy to build (i had many troubles with sharp edges on build posts and screws on other RTAs) and is significantly smaller than the Taifun (in length).
I use a very simple "old school" single coil Kanthal build with ~1.5 Ohms,
and so i don't necessarily need TC compatibility.
It should have a great and maybe also silent? air flow, since i'm a direct to lung kinda guy.
My budget is small, so shops like Gearbest or fasttech or something are preferred :)

Very nice to have feature would be top fill, but there seem to be leaking issues with most of those?

So i'm shouting out to you experts, do you have any recommendations ?

Cleito rta. I have been using the Cleito for about a year and a half and switched over to the rta deck for it about 6 months ago. Best. Tank. Ever. Its easy to build on, can take the aspire .8-.9 prebuilt claptons, and it's a great tank.

There's a host of decent, single coil RTAs on the market right now...

Augvape Merlin and Merlin Mini, OBS Ace, Wotofo Serpent, Serpent Mini, and Serpent Mini 25, Ehpro Bachelor, and Bachelor Nano, UD Goblin Mini 3, and Geekvape Ammit to name a few. I own all but one (it's in the mail), and have no real issues with any...

Hi ontherocks. Welcome to the ECF.

For a General Purpose RTA that is Easy to build, the TopTank mini might be something to consider.

I recently got this one from FT and it is not bad at all.

$8.30 Toptank Mini Styled Sub Ohm Tank Clearomizer - 4ml / 0.15ohm (15-50W) / stainless steel + glass at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

For a Really Short RTA, this is Also a Very Nice tank...

$17.41 Authentic Wotofo Serpent Sub Tank Clearomizer - 3.5ml / stainless steel + glass / 22mm dia. at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

It can use the SubTank or TopTank RBA also.

I've tried many single coil rebuildable tanks over the years and I keep coming back to the old faithful, easy to build Kayfun V2 and V3.1. That's just me. We all tend to come back to what works best and the Kayfun is that for me. The standard KF holds 4.5ml and the mini holds less.

I'm not likely to pay $30+ for a new style RTA just to see if I like it unless the vaping world is raving about it, but If it's popular and an MTL style I will buy it and try it. If you shop around, Kayfuns are on sale for $10 and $15. For that price, MTL vapers usually have one or two in their collection.

That's true. I'm picking up the geek vape avacado 24 rdta tomorrow. I think im going to like the whole rebuildable top coil setup.

I have found some unbelievable deals on EHPro Kayfuns. I bought two for $4.95 each once, but they were closeout and that vendor doesn't stock them anymore. $10 is about the best deal I've seen.

i think dave is right. i am still have my old Ehpro kayfun on rotation
juast my opinion about some tanks
merlin 1v... some QC problems on deck, leaks... better look for merlin mini
serpent mini... great flavor but vape too hot sometimes and only 2ml
goblin v3... great flavor but for me works better on dual coil deck, no leaks... tricky wick on single deck and need an extenxion tube for 4ml
sxk rose v3 clone... nice one. flavor, easy wick, nice AFC-JFC, 4ml ... tricky build

thats all lol

I vote for Subtank mini or TopTank. I also have the Cleito. While the Cleito is a "cloud machine", I find I need pretty significant watts to make it shine .

The Subtank with its included RBA (that's a plus right there) is so simple to build. I like it for its restrictive DL draw. While the Cleito can make more clouds overall, the kanger make a more "dense" vape due to its chimney. Better flavor at cooler temps.

Another plus - my subtank has never leaked no matter how I lay it down. Can't say the same about my Genesis style tanks (Limitless, Griffin), Crius, or my Velocity RDA. I can go on and on. Hey, it's a hobby. :)

I go through about a tank a day of 6 mg DIY unflavored on a Tesla Invader 3 at around 4.4 volts/.5 single coil. Fully charged batteries and it lasts almost 3 days before needing batteries swapped.

I've exclusively used subtank/toptank for the last year or so, which has been nothing but amazing for me.
Toptank is top fill w/ RBA deck (as mentioned), and one of the easiest to build. Wicking is not tricky at all and the tank just never leaks. I think it leaked on me once when I was going up the mountain to go boarding, but that was to be expected. Otherwise, the tank has been the most reliable and simple one to use by far.

I'm just now starting to move onto dual coil RTAs for the additional vapor/flavor, but I'd still recommend toptank to anyone looking for just a simple single coil RTAs.

I've used Kayfuns in the past, but the tight draw doesn't work for DL vapors. Toptank's airflow isn't the best either, but I'm a DL guy as well and haven't had problems with the tank.

Hope you find the one that works for you.

My recommendation for an easy to build rta is the Atmizoo Keras Giga/nano. The deck is perfect size for your usual 1.5ohm single coil setup.
