I need advice. I have been vaping a while now, see my join date. I need equipment recommendations from people who have tried what they're recommending. I have a 510. It's good. Battery life sucks. Have a chuck. It's good. Huge to tote around. Use it a lot at home. Have a sidesho. Good flavor, battery life is better than the 510. It's my main device but there's a couple of things bothering me about it. I've been thinking, maybe I shouldn't put all my eggs in one basket because I can't go through a different supplier to get supplies for it.

What I'm looking for is something with longer battery life that I can use with my 510 atties. I'm interested in the ego/tornado etc, or a mod that can use my CR123 or 18650 batteries, but is smaller than the chuck.

My last request for information is regarding the low resistance and high voltage atomizers. Is there a supplier you'd recommend that I can get one or both to try at the same time that I order an ego/tornado/riva/maxx or from a mod supplier?

Some people like the LR attys, some say they taste a bit burnt. As for high voltage atomizers, I do not see the reasoning behind them. Adding resistance to the standard atomizer defeats the purpose of going 5-6 volts, bringing it down to (from what I'm told) the 4 volt range.

A device I would suggest, as a great backup, would be a simple nicostick. Good battery life, Infinitely repairable/replaceable, and you can simulate high voltage with a LR atty.

If you want something more manufactured with a built in 5 volt option, Nuck's fistpack would probably be the way to go. A great primary and pretty solid, but rather expensive.

If you want something really sleek and not that expensive, than bestthing is (happens pretty often) right. :)

As Israfil says, there is a voltage/ohm trade off - if you go high voltage then you need high voltage (higher ohm) attys. As long as you have some 510 carts you could benefit - upgrade your wattage and get longer battery life by getting a 900mAh eGo battery (@10hours+ ymmv) and a LR 1.5 ohm atty with a resultant wattage of between 6.8 and 7.7 watts depending on how much voltage your eGo batt puts out - I've seen some rated at 3.2 and some at 3.4 but you're still in the good, imo, 6-8W range for really good vapor. You would need a quick charger and a cone as well. Pretty cheap 'upgrade' vs going to smaller than the Chuck, 5 or 6 volt device where you have to dumb down your attys to keep from frying them esp. at 6. Even 5 volts is too much for the regular 510 atty = 12Watts.

Honestly I'd disagree about the regular attys. I've been running 5 volts for some time now, and as long as you maintain em they can last a long while. The real benefit to 5v is that it heats up much faster, so the throat hit is stronger and the draw (should be) shorter.

The real trick is not overheating em by trying to take a 10 second draw at 5 volts like you might at 3.7-4.

About the batteries though, dead on for sure!

I run cartoz and 901s on the 5 volt but not the 510 mainly because I don't pay attention (and don't want to have to either ;-) and have fried a few of them. It does well with the regular 901 though.

I searched the forums with info for Nuck's fistpack and the nicostick. Nuck's fistpack is really nice, but I don't know where I'd be able to buy one. I've never pm-ed a member to ask for something, so I don't know about that. Plus it looks like they're pretty popular so I don't know if I'd have a chance at getting one. The nicostick would be more than good too, but I'm not capable of making one.

So...

I'm leaning more towards the ego/riva/maxx or hello 016. It seems people are pretty polarized on which one they like, usually it's the one they've tried. I think I'm gonna get a kit for my husband for fathers day and then try it and see if I want the same one for me. I think I'll get either the riva or the hello goodbye from Nhaler. Wish I could get both, but will have to wait for one.

eGo at cignot.com. Right there in the Chicago area.
We've vaped for nearly one year and went to the eGo about a month ago, using our regular Joye 510 atomizers and regular 510 carts we already had on hand. My batteries last about 10 hours per charge and hers last 15 hours or more. I wish we'd started with the eGo. We've found our "sweet spot".

Belhade, The power at my house was out for 36 hours. Yesterday they said it wouldn't be restored until tomorrow night. That would have been 3+ days without power. Luckily, it was turned back on around 4 this morning. I know most of the power has been restored by now, ours was among the last because there were 260 houses without power in my area, which was a small number compared to other areas. They fix the biggest problems first. There are no overhead power lines in my suburb, so I don't know what the wind could have caused during that one ten minute storm. Maybe a power surge tripped a breaker or something.

Cliff, I'm glad you and yours found the sweet spot. That's all I want. The longer lasting battery is what we need, and Cignot's shipping and service is excellent. I've shopped with them many times.

It isn't really that bad to make your own, especially something like a nicostick.
Honestly I shouldn't have been able to make my variable voltage mod...but once I knew which end of the voltage booster went where everything else was just twisting the ends of wires together. ^_^ Much less daunting with a simplified schematic.

Nuck's work is just soooo excellent...way better than mine.

If you are still considering the Riva, I see that Vapor Junction and Ecigsupply sell it for a lower price.

For what it's worth, I prefer a general mod that I can use with any atomizer. Some of them can be almost as slender as the Fat Batts (what I call this category of high-mAh batteries such as the eGO), e.g., most of those based on the 900 mAh 14500 battery. Examples are the Precious M, Protege, ICON, ProVape-1, and DSE905.

Others are more boxy looking, but still small ... and include a juice pump, e.g., MrPuffer and WetBox.

For more on the miraculous milieu of mods, see ViZi's comprehensive guide, which also includes the Fat Batts (what he calls Custom Mods).

EDIT: I just noticed:
I'm interested in the ego/tornado etc, or a mod that can use my CR123 or 18650 batteries, but is smaller than the chuck.
Check out the Precious L: the smallest 18650-based mod.

Ever think about the GGTS? It can be used at 3.7v,6v,7.2v,7.4v. It's threaded for 801,901,510 and kr809 carto's. It's 3/4" thick and expands for cr123s or can be used smaller for 3.7. It looks beautiful, works fantastic, and is all mechanical so less problems. Also you can add an auto feed system and not worry about carts or dripping. I received mine last week and couldn't be happier. Best mod out there IMHO

Don, Deetz, and 5cardstud, I really appreciate that you took the time to respond. Don, I've been using all your links and looking very closely at each mod. I even made a spreadsheet to compare. For many of the devices, I'd need to get different batteries (the protege, Precious M, provape-1 and ICON) and are 3.7 devices, correct? Well, probably 4.2 like my chuck, so while smaller and pretty, don't have the options that the Buzz does. I'd probably need a new charger too to be on the safe side. Although I must admit, the 15 ml of juice free almost swayed me on the provape. The cost of the GGTS is much higher than the rest. The Precious L isn't much less, and doesn't give the option to try 5 or 6v, which I would like to try.

I am thinking I'd rather pick a device that doesn't require different batteries (I have CR123s and 18650s). This, plus the variable voltage leans me most towards the Buzz. Kent, thanks for that link. Are CR123s and CR123a's the same battery with different names? The looks of the Buzz aren't as pleasing to me as some, not sure why.
