Some fantastic reads on here and thought I would add my experiance. I was diagnosed with severe COPD a few years ago. One medication twice a day, another once a day, have a rescue inhaler and slept hooked up to an oxygen machine. You would think that would be enough to make me quit, but I couldn't.

Even with medication I was getting worse. Down to 6 cigarettes a day of ultra lights and still getting worse. Being short of breath is scary and being scared uses up oxygen. I think they refer to them as episodes and they are not fun. I won't go into detail on that, but quality of life was getting close to rock bottom.

Seemed like it got worse when the weather changed. Even on good days, taking the trash cans to the curb was a major choir and they are on wheels. I would still have to stop and rest. My wife has had to mow the law for a couple years now because I couldn't. Talk about feeling worthless and all because those darn smokes.

I wasn't quite to the point of one ladies story of picking up butts off the ground to smoke, but I kept a metal can in the garage to dump the asstray and many times I would dig through that to find ones I could get 3 puffs off.

My doctor asked if I had tried ecigs and I said no. I wish she had been a more persistant. Maybe 8 months later I hear an add on the radio and decide to give them a try. Went as far as ordering them for around $100 and like my usual, I got the cart before the horse. After I hung up the phone I looked the company up on the internet and oh my goodness there were a lot of bad things said about them. I called them right back and canceled my order and another 8 months or so went by.

As luck would have it I ran across a guy in the smokers cage that had an ecig and I started asking him questions. He smiled when I told him about almost buying from the radio advertisement and handed me a card from CigNot.

I finished the 4 cigarettes left in that last pack and have not craved a analog since. That was 6 March 2011 and I've got my life back. The second week vaping I ran the weedwacker until my arms were shaking and it felt good. Walk up a flight of stairs and not have to rest. Can take my grandkids to the driving range and the list goes on.

After a month I took myself off Advair, which was my twice a day medicine. I think the steroid I'll have to take for the rest of my life, but will talk to the doc about that. I've done too much damage to ever run again, but damn, I'm almost 62 years old and I got no business running. :)

I would love to hear from anyone that has severe COPD. Off smokes for about 6 weeks now and seems the biggest difference was within the first 2 weeks. Still a little reminder when the weather changes, but only been twice for that. I'm crossing my fingers it will get even better, but I'm tickled to death being able to do normal things. That little lady that married me in 1972 is pretty darn happy also.

NOW THIS is the kind of story I love hearing. I am sooo happy for you!, it was easier than you thought it could ever be wasnt it?, I'm still shaking my head at how easy it was.

I had a bad case of pneumonia, and went to the docs, he checked out my chest and breathing and said, I'd like you to come back after this is over, i think you may have the very beginning stages of COPD as well"...and i said "yeah right'....but I decided to quit smoking on my birthday this past April 6 2011, just in case. and I did. and so did you!, feels awesome dont it!?

I love reading how ecigs have changed people's lives. Congradulations to you and meeems. I smoked on average, 3-4 packs a day for the past 15 years and I can't remember the 13 years prior to that. I started to have health problems myself but was too scared to talk to the doctor. A co-worker got me into ecigs and I am forever grateful. No more health problems.

Both of you, please remember to drink lots of water. Vaping will dehydrate you over time and the symptons will hit you like a ton of bricks plus the water will help flush out your system.

Keep vaping!

meeems - I was that way about water. Coffee in the morning, a half glass of juice with lunch and a Coke in the evening. That was until the wife found these little bottles of flavoring. They really work good and can flavor as strong or light as you want. I drink two large ice tea size glasses in the evening and it's because I want two, not forcing myself. I believe vapors need more liquid because I don't have to get up to pee in the middle of the night after all that.

Hi Higbe, you have any idea where she got the flavorings from?
thanks

My quit day was March 20 two years ago so we share the same month!!!
Diagnosed with COPD myself but didn't get as bad as you. Used an inhaler & Advair (just didn't use constantly), and wasn't on oxygen.
Can't remember exactly how long, but over six months, after I made the switch, I was swimming 3/4ths the length of a pool on one breath. You, like me, will probably never get back to 100% but you should regain more of what you lost in the next few months. :)

jj2 - Good to hear and I hope it improves even more. I still can't believe how easy it was to put the analogs down for good. From day 1 I've had no desire.

I missed them at first but was out of state visiting my daughter and only took my e-cig. Twenty one days later, on my way home, I knew that I could quit. If you can, start doing some deep breathing. The only people on earth that breath correctly is babies. From then on everybody gets lazier and lazier and then the breathing problems only compounds the issue.
Big congrats on quitting and I wish you the very best!!!! :)

Congratulations! Thats amazing how quickly your lungs are recovering. It has been 16 months for me now and I too was diagnosed with COPD but not as severe as yours. I no longer need my two different inhalers I was using and seem like I get better every month. Just think how many lives could be saved if their use was encouraged!

Remember that it doesn't necessarily have to be water to keep you hydrated. The water flavoring that Hig is talking about is called Mio, and it's pretty darn good, plus no aspartame. I found it with the crystal light at Wal Mart. You can also drink decaf tea, lemonade or other juices, even milk. Anything without caffeine or alcohol will work.

Real glad to hear it keeps getting better and I hope mine does also. I was so impressed what e-cigs did for me, I wrote the FDA with a shorter version and the email I got back was more negitive then I thought would come from a government agency. I'm writing Duncan Hunter next.

I learned about ecigs about several years ago because of a lady I met with end stage COPD kept setting fires by smoking with her oxygen on. She was a hospice patient and I was trying to find some way to keep her from burning herself up. I got on google looking for a creative solution or at least a fire-proof lap blanket and I found ecigs. I ordered one for myself and one for her.

At the time, she had been given less than six months to live. She is still alive today. I'm not going to say she is well, but she is still here and her quality of life has improved.
