Ok...had to go 6 even without a mm.

Hell yeah....this coil may not make it through the night, but for the first time in a long time I think I may have a box buzz. Could be low bloodsugar...I hope not...I want a box buzz.

How many wraps did you do and with which gauge of NiChrome? The 34 or the 36?

Well my nova experiment turned into an epic failure, evidently I thinned the wick too much, and it fell out and wound up with a mouth full of juice. Went to my 2.4 ohm head, and it seemed odd it had maybe 3 wraps, but tested at 2.7 ohms. Started it at 4v and after sitting filled for 20mins and the wick instantly scorched. so nova is on the shelf for now. Oh well, guess it will now be a re-wicking experiment.

Yeah, that silica will split pretty easy after it gets frayed. You should be able to just dry it out really good and get the strands back together.

An observation and a discovery.
The pics and vids make these appear larger than they are...much larger. The parts and working area are very tiny.
I discovered that I need a freestanding magnifying apparatus to do this properly.

This is what I was wondering about/afraid of. I'm still WAY too young for bifocals so I refuse to go down that road. Wonder if reading glasses would do the trick. I can't read so I've never tried them.

lol...was looking at magnifyers today and was looking at the reading glasses as an option. It is tiny for eyes like mine and apparently yours...the damn wire is nearly invisible...

My wife has a pair I think....hmmm. I would rather have that work instead of some big apparatus i have to drag out when i rewind.

Looks like Wally World has a bunch pretty cheap. They even have some that break apart in the middle like the guy on one of those CSI shows. Also, a reasonably small free standing magnifier that looks like it might work.

My grandfather had one of those great big lit magnifying glasses on an articulating arm attached to his workbench that he used when he needed to solder something small. Don't think the wife would let me attach one of those to the dining room table so I need to figure something out fast by the sounds of it.

These are both at Harbor Freight and the Helping Hands is $3 and the Head Lamp is $5. They have a bigger Helping Hands for $3 more and the same goes with the Head strap.

Even the dork with the headgear?

Lol, no.. that one is $5 and you would have to buy the dork seperately! They also have the head strap with a larger magnification and LEDs for $8 or $9. That one is not pictured with a dork, though.
