...I'm scared of the replaceable battery mods and their batteries! :danger:

Not a huge deal especially as a low wattage vaper. One thing you have to do for sure is inspect the wrap on the batteries often and if they even so much as look torn or otherwise not 100% perfect, you have to rewrap them. Yes, they can be dangerous, but you just have to use common sense. With common sense, they are far less dangerous than cigarettes ;)

One con I have found with the Kanger EVOD VV is the button. It is so hard to find if I don't literally look down at it!

I agree. I prefer the placement of the Evod button but I don't like that it's flush mounted. You get used to feeling for it, though (sort of).

Here's he way I look at it. As things stand now, you don't have to hurry that much because you'll still be able to buy mods in a local vape shop. The problem with that is...
  • you'll pay out the nose
  • the selection will be limited
  • and because of #2 above you might not be able to find a small one. I bring that up because for someone who uses ego batteries I would suspect you'd want a rather small box mod.
  • I haven't been in a vape shop in years, for all I know they mainly sell pod system and not many box mods, making selection even more limited.
If you do look for box mods in the next few weeks before the vape mail is supposed to happen, I suggest you look into the following if you can find them...
  1. Eleaf istick Pico 75W
  2. Eleaf Istick Pico 25 85W (slightly bigger version of the above)
  3. Vaporesso Swag
  4. Vaporesso Swag II (slightly bigger version of the above)
Those are the smallest 18650 box mods I know of. The last one will be the easiest one to find at a reasonable price in the USA, I think. In fact, Eightvape has the Swag II kit on sale for $23.61 (if discount isn't automatically given at checkout, try coupon code REBIRTH21) + shipping and taxes. That sale is good for the rest of the month. Yes, it comes with a tank you won't probably use, but whatever. Colors are limited at this point because that sale's been going on all month. Maybe others can help you find better prices/selection elsewhere in the USA.

You can use any of the clearomizers you use on your ego batteries on these mods. Just gotta keep the wattage down. And of you're using Evod clearos or any other clearos that only have an ego threading but not 510 threading, you will need 510-to-Ego adapters (China). I'm sure there are some places in the USA that still have some of those adapters, but they will be more expensive.

You could look into a pod mod system if you want a small setup that takes 18650 batts, but can't find a box mod. But the down side is that you won't be able to use any of your 510 or Ego tanks on 99% of them (they use their own proprietary tanks which means then you have to stock up on pod tanks and the coils for them).

Holy smokes (ha ha) this is great info!!! You are correct I want to stay small. I vape MTL, low watts obviously, somewhat on the warm side, and do NOT like an airy vape. I am one of those that takes short, frequent puffs, and not about a long deep draw and big cloud on exhale. I tend to chain vape when sitting on the computer and while driving so I need something that can handle frequent short draws at times without heating up. My Evods tend to get pretty warm if I over-do! (During those times I call them my pacifiers. )

I did check out your recommendations.

Having said all that......I need to fess up on an order I have coming tomorrow. I think I panic ordered and am not sure now......

I have done a lot of searching on here reading through some threads of people in a similar situation. I ordered what I saw most recommended at the time. (I still need to order much more though)
Here is what I have coming so far:
2 Aegis solo
3 Aspire Nautilus tanks with three 5 packs of atomizers
2 Innokin Zenith Zslide tanks with 10 extra coils
3 Innokin Zenith tanks with three 5 packs of coils
4 Sony VTC 5A 18650 batteries.

I ordered those tanks because from what I read they are some of the best and would be usable on a variety of mods that might suit me. ( If they are what I need I will order several more.)

The Aegis Solo is bigger then I'm used to but still compact, and I loved the sound of how tough it is. We do a lot of outdoorsy stuff that it sounded perfect for (fishing, hunting, boating, UTVing, ect)

But I hope I can make what I have ordered so far work for me! I won't panic buy anymore and will go by specific recommendations for ME from now on!

I would like to find a tube type mod also for taking out with me in more public places. I am considering the Innokin Plex and the EHPRO 101, but haven't ordered those yet.

Thanks for all the advice everyone and sorry this turned into a thread within a thread!

There's nothing wrong with the the Aegis solo. It's a bit chunky because it's a dust/water/shock resistant mod, but it's not too large IMHO. A little bigger than the ones I mentioned, though. But I would not say it was bad purchase. I used to think the Solo was a bit big until I bought the Aegis Max. Now the solo looks and feels tiny to me .

One thing to keep in mind about the mods I recommended. The Pico 75W and Swag only take tanks up to 22mm in diameter max.

The Pico 25 85W and the Swag II take tanks that are up to about 25mm in diameter max.

The protruding top mounted battery cap is the limiting factor on these 4 above mods.

With the solo it doesn't matter since it doesn't have a protruding top battery cap. Even if you ever bought a tank that is wider than the mod, your only "worry" is that it would over hang the sides of the mod. But it would still fit and work. Some people don't like overhang due to aesthetics...and OCD .

Great List. But one thing maybe I didn't see is a 18650 Charger.

LOL! Yep I have a misc stuff to buy list started and a charger and plastic battery case are on there already. When we are out doing our boating, fishing, hunting, ATVing type stuff I will need to bring along extra batteries to get through a long day/night.

Oh I never thought about that battery cap issue. Thanks for pointing it out. And I don't worry about the looks. I've used mini clearomizers on my Tritan batteries in a pinch before and THAT looks hilarious. But if it works/vapes I don't care!

Plus I'm scared of the replaceable battery mods and their batteries!
Unless it's a mechanical mod, just follow the basic safety rules -- probably printed on a card included w/ the mod -- and there's no real danger.

ECigMafia has the Aspire CF Mod on sale. 18650, unregulated...

LOL. I don't care about looks either. I use Evod clearos on cigalikes using that 510 to Ego adapter I linked to. Looks REALLY stupid but the vape is spectacular for a low wattage stealthy vape on a cigalike. Beats a cartomizer or a mini 510 tank anyday.

Good Deal.

Plastic Battery Cases are a Must. Luckily, they are probably the Cheapest of most of the things to Buy.

I agree that you should get a charger, however don't be in a rush for one right now if money is tight. Those aren't vape gear so no problem getting those after the vape mail ban.

Although I don't recommend it, you can just charge your batts inside your mod. Just be gentle when you insert and remove the USB cord from on the mod.

Better to stock up on gear...and nicotine

Well there you go. You actually do have a need for a shock/water/dust resistant mod like the Aegis Solo. Good purchase! :thumb:

Buy another

@dlee - I second you considering getting some of the Aspire CF Mods. I have a good number of them in my own stash. There are a few vendors with them at that $4.99 price now, and it's the cheapest they've been from US vendors for the last 6-8 months or more.

I get so confused when trying to figure out what works with what...... can you suggest some tanks to go with this? I don't know what I'm looking for other then 22mm diameter tanks.

Something to keep in mind with the CF mod. I don't own one but I just got done watching a video about it. Seems to me that it's basically an unregulated protected mod.

Meaning, it's not a mechanical mod because it has protections (over discharge, low voltage shut-off, etc) but it will act like a mechanical mod in that you can't regulate the voltage/wattage you are vaping at. So you'll be vaping straight off the battery's voltage at any given time (you can't adjust the output like on a VV ego or box mod).

So you'll start at 4.15 to 4.2 volts (freshly charged battery), but as you vape the voltage goes down, and the vape will get weaker.

There's nothing wrong with that, but if you're used to using variable voltage regulated devices where you vape pretty much at a consistent voltage/wattage the whole way through the battery cycle, then you may not appreciate a mod like that.

If I'm wrong about this let me know. But the videos I saw don't mention anything about regulating the voltage.

If I'm right, it's something to think about before you buy it.

But if I understand this correctly, that would be like my Halo Tritons (unregulated) that I loved and used for most of the past 8 years. (Is that correct?) I only started with the VV recently and it was "just because". LOL!

Then it would be null. lol. I thought the triton was a VV 808 Ego battery.
