I'm trying to help my mother with a lost shipment and was wondering if anyone might have some advice. She(against my recommendation) ordered some juice from a Chinese supplier(e-cig) because it was sooo cheap. Well now I think she might be out $50. The order was shipped and arrived via UPS while she was out of town. I have the tracking number and it's listed as being delivered and "left at front door." The problem is that she lives in an apartment building with key-card access. I guess this brilliant deliveryman couldn't get in and just left a package at the front door of an 11 story apartment building. Now UPS is saying that its not their fault and she should contact the shipper. THEY say that she needs to contact UPS. Has anyone else had this issue, and were you able to get it resolved?

(In the meantime I've pointed her to several reputable US suppliers and said 'I told you so' more than once)

Sounds like the vender did their part, you have a shipper issue not a vender issue. It happened to me once with USPS, had a package from San Diego to Seattle that was marked out for delivery for about a week. I filled out an on line complaint and then every week thereafter I would initiate another complaint for them not responding to the last one. 4 weeks later they found it in Saint Paul, MN. I eventually got it, don't know if being on them like a priest on a school boy helped, but it worked for me.

I think their are rules against doing that like they have to be put in a lock box if not delivered to you or kept for redelivery .I think on the third attempt they ship back to sender . UPS pretty much gave your package away . Id file a complaint with usps if you have proof they left a note that says left at front door .

This is a problem with UPS not your retailer. They should not drop off packages like this unless its requested by the sender. I know all my packages when I am not home end up at the local office for me to pick up. Could you imagine having an expensive package just dropped off at your door! :X
