Stick with Manuals or even some of the older Auto Regular Sized.

Thought I'd give the Shorty Autos a shot but they are way too airy and produce almost zero throat hit or vapor unless you really work them.

oh well...I just shelved them and ordered a couple more of my favorite batts...Manual Mediums.

What am I doing wrong then? I wanted to like these cause they seemed like they would mimic a real cig and I could hold them between my fingers..

There's just way too much air and I have to pull like a mother to get them cooking....

Mike,

I too think that they are airy, so I shoved a toothpick into the holes and broke them off to restrict the airflow, and now they are wonderful to use.

I actually felt the same way about my auto shorty when I first got it (a month ago or so?), but after some use (I think there is the usual gunk building up in some of the holes) it's much better now.

So I'm happy to hear Leaford say they dialed back a bit on the airiness - because that might be just right...

My 2 older regular-sized autos have become too hard to draw on over time and I don't use them much as a result. I'm constantly cleaning the threads / holes...

Having said all that - I'm a convert to manuals... I don't think I'll buy any more autos at all going forward.

This is a tough one. Back when they did the poll I voted for an airy draw because I was using an auto that had a perfect draw and my manual had a really tight draw that I didn't like. So I voted for an airy draw.

Turns out it is all relative, so what they actually meant by "airy draw" was too airy for me. For me, the draw on the old autos with the notch post in the battery was just about right. My old manual PT was just a bit too tight. Now I have four shorties - one is an old shorter shorty with a notch in the battery post and the draw is perfect. The others have no notch but one came with four little holes and the draw is very satisfactory. Two came with four big holes and are way way to airy.

Now there are so many different configurations out there that it is impossible to ask someone if they like the draw on the "shorties" or the "manuals" or the "autos" - it all depends on which battery configuration they happen to be using. It is definitely something V4L needs to, and will, get right eventually - but it is almost impossible to evaluate whether people like airy or tight draws when any communication is based on comparison of some random coupling of battery configurations.

My "airy" was a lighter draw than my "tight" but turned out to be not as "airy" as the new "airy". I don't believe that there can be many people that like the super airy airy draw - but if there are, I know it is easier to close off battery holes to tighten up the draw on an airy battery than to try and loosen up the draw on a tight battery.

I'm having the same issue.

I just got my replacement (I got a non working on a few weeks ago)

it's so Airy that it's hard to get a hit off of it...also...I have a few premo carts that don't fit on it.

it's a shame...It's the perfect size.

I hate to bother them for another return...they probably hate me by now (I've had several issues and phone calls with them)

This is very confusing to me. All the changes. Do I have a "new" or an "old" battery.....a "new" or an "old" premium....my 67-year old brain can
hardly keep up. I have one auto regular sized battery that is WAY too airy. I have to hold the holes while I inhale. And it makes such an "airy" whisper....drives me nuts. The newest regular auto battery (awhile ago)
has a much larger CENTER hole and much smaller SIDE holes, and is much
better. I have no idea which one is the old style and which the new....but I really prefer the one with the smaller side holes. ?? oh my.....

Some people prefer a tighter draw, but most people have loved the easy draw batts. Still, we did step it down a bit on the newest orders, and I think we've hit the right balance.

My preference is also for the tighter draw/smaller holes. The last batch of shorties I tried had way too much airflow for my taste.

I will be trying the new design for sure, but wonder if the holes on the short manual batteries will also be smaller? I have only read about the autos getting the smaller holes, and nothing about the manuals so far.

Since the XL manual is going to be redesigned as well, I sure hope the option to purchase both versions (existing and new) is made available at some point.

I have a lot of batts and there's certainly some variance in draw. If an auto's a little airy I don't break tooth picks or or anything - I just place my thumb over one of the little openings where cart and batt meet. Because of the way I hold them my thumb rests there naturally - I always thumb manuals. I have one or two that are really really too easy and I just curl index finger around as well as thumb. That sounds awkward if you hold them differently I guess - it's actually very relaxed and natural. You know how you hold a short cigarette when it's windy and raining, sheltered in your palm? Like that... oh, i know! No time to dump a photo, but http://www.popstarsplus.com/images/HumphreyBogartPicture.jpg
sort of. More resting in all my fingers than so pinchy.
I have no idea how most vapers hold theirs. Anyway, I adjust airflow without thinking about it any more that way.
This is really a silly sounding post... :p
