For those that have both, which do you prefer?
I have a SL. I can honestly say I've never had an issue with either of these concerns. Nothing seems to collect in the holes. And after using a mod for a week, I give it a good bath in hot water. Being you can do that with Reo's it really isn't much of a concern. You'll be happy with whatever you chooseThe only reason i stray from the SL is pocket lint, and hand grime. anyone have an issue with this?
i plan on getting the copper vein, so its a tough choice atm. i love the look of the OG, an sl door is an idea tho. thanks!I'd go SL unless it's a finish you want to maximize for aesthetic reasons (e.g., anything metalic). I've had no problems with lint or dirt although some beach-going Reonauts stay away from SL's due to the sand risk.
If you do have an atty leak (oversquonking), it can get into the mod easier, but worst case it's a 30 second wash in water and you're golden.
Even with a solid body, I still like a SL door - the exception being one SL TRA I have with a solid TRA circles door.
In the end, though, it's all good. Fill your boots and vape it proud.

One thing to consider with the copper vein is that you should coat it to prevent oxidation, which will turn it permanently black over time. Search in this subforum for threads on what to use and how to apply it (most use a spray-on clear poly product).
It's a gorgeous finish and I'd be inclined to get a solid body![]()
The favorite of my 7 Grands is an OG VVG Silver Vein I bought used that is only for when I am in the mood to savor it.
I procrastinated at first with the SL's, wasn't sure I liked the look, but wasn't concerned at all about something foreign getting in them because of how I use my Reos. I now have 2 SL's and use them often. In hand the look is more than acceptable (and it was the easiest way to get a Gold Anodized Grand). Weigh difference is quite noticeable, but was not a concern for me. Because of the slots (and weight) a grip on them is way more positive than on an anodized or painted standard Reo, and even more so than on the texture finished as well if you're someone who drops mods.
Altogether I have 4 "vein" Reos, 2 copper and 2 silver. The first bought used was a CV that was already almost solid black patina when I received it. There is nothing you can do to restore an original vein finish once it turns dark. I've considered removing the finish back to TRA on it but haven't bothered. While I bought the best stuff IMO to seal the other three I never have. They are kept clean, don't get joose on them and I have not noticed any change in them yet. Up to 14 months and counting on the 3 new veins I bought... the OG VVG vein is an unknown number of years old by now and is not coated. Note that protecting them with a clear coat has a possible con... if the clear finish ever chips the right fix is to remove all the clear coat and coat them again. My bottom line on my veins is that if they all end up black with copper/silver highlights then I guess I'll have 4 mostly black Reos.![]()
Yes, this would be my first, thanks for all the ideas! Is this your first reo or an addition?? As others have said, the copper vein does require a good bit more work to keep it really nice! E101z has a great video showing how he did his. @ed101z I have this vid link, is this still how you do it, or have you come up with a better way? https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/threads/clear-coating-your-reo-grand-and-removing-it.660082/
I was also going to suggest solid body and SL door if you aren't certain, particularly with copper vein (CV), the door would be easier to deal with the clear coating. If you get a coordinating color mod and CV door then you can see if the protecting of it is something that you want to keep up with. If you do, and if you like the SL, then later you can get a CV SL mod, with door that coordinates with first mod, and interchange them to your heart's delight. That's what I've been thinking about. I have a black wrinkle mini, and at some point will get a CV SL door for it. Maybe even a kawa green SL door too, that looks super sharp!
If this is your first reo, welcome to the family!! Lots of great info here, and plenty of super helpful folks to answer any and all questions!
Mind showing me a pic of the CV once it turns darker? I dont think i will mind that at all, nothing a little copper polish wouldnt fix right?
that kinda turns me off.. hrmm.Don't have a pic but it goes black. Not darker copper, not blue... black. And, it's permanent - nothing copper polish will restore, sadly.
