it is a bit of a conundrum, you dont want to spend alot of money on something that you might not like, but then again a quality device imo is easier to get right. for me anyways, the 2 cheapy clone gennys that i own, or had owned were alot more difficult to get right than my other quality devices. currently my ac-9 is by far the best genny that i have ever tried, and by far the easiest to get right.
It seems to me, and I may be mistaken, that most vendors are continually out of stock on high-end Genesis RBAs ... themselves fueling the knock-off product market. Try getting a Z Atty Pro from Provape ... permanently out of stock. So China comes to the rescue and fills in the blanks.

I remember way back in the 70's K-Mart used to stock top-notch German bicycle repair goods which sometime later became sparsely available for about 2 years. After that, everything they stocked came from Taiwan -- they can't match the quality, but they can deliver.

But wait, it gets even better. I use a wick setup on my reduxes similar to whats shown in this picture. When it come time to clean, I pull the old wick out of the coil, pulse the coil a couple of times, slide in a new wick and let it soak a couple of hours and I'm back in business. I haven't been using this method long enough to see how long my coils will last, but I'm thinking its going to be a long time. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ivi-nova-rebuild-tutorial-18.html#post7074093

Wow, this is a very informative thread JD1. I might have to read this whole thing yet tonight. I guess I don't get it... You just use the same coil over and over??? Surly not, I just don't know how you would get the wick in the coil afterwards... Maybe I'm reading this wrong. I have rebuilt my fair share of clearomizers so I am definitely going to be trying this out soon enough.

Yes I know I shouldn't drop all this money on a rebuildable but I literally can't help myself to not do so. Have you seen those Terminators... They look to good to be ture... So they probably are:(. Bad news is that the co-op I was going to order them from is not going for round two because of the quality of them and to much tinkering, from the looks of it anyways. BTW thatnks for the heads up on the ac-9... I have never heard of these and will be looking into them.

It's not cut & dried re: Chinese RBAs vs "High end" devices. I've yet to have any problem getting any of my Chids, Chobras, AGA/AGA-T set up and vaping properly. I have 12 Chinese RBAs up & running - each with a different juice - in daily rotation. I have some with wick/coil sets that are already 3+ months old and they only need occasional cleaning.

Yep, I might have been able to buy 1, maybe 2, "High End" devices... if they were ever in stock... for what I've spent so far. Instead, I have 12 working gennys in hand vs. maybe having 1 or 2 pricey devices. If I had the time to hover at a vendor's site, repeatedly punching the F5 button, hoping to get one. Or being put 'on a list' with no idea when my name might come up...

Like everything else, YMMV... and opinions are like a-holes & elbows - most everyone has at least one. :)

ok, it isn't really a blowtorch........I did a youtube video well over a year ago showing how to use the mini propane tank/nozzle to cure your wick. Yes, this was done in my living room.

blow·torch
/ˈblōˌtôrCH/
Noun
A portable device producing a hot flame that is directed onto a surface, typically (but not necessarily) to solder metal.

My little torch burns at around 3,200-3,800°F (1,760-2,093°C) I hope that classifies as hot.

I hate to nitpick but doesn't this mean it is in fact a blowtorch? Obviously its not a oxyacetylene torch used to weld.

I have this thing about misconceptions......its an obsession. :-(

I don't think an acetylene torch is made for welding, it is made to basically cut iron and steel isn't? I could be wrong but I've never seen them used as a welder on a site.

I don't have any RBA experience yet to share, but an oxyacetylene torch set-up is used to weld or braze copper, brass, etc.

We always used oxyacetylene torches your cutting through thick metals at the scrap yard, don't think it would do much for welding, but we never tried to weld with it either we had welders for that

What he said... I've used an oxyacetylene torch to braze sheet metal onto a wrecked car w/o a problem. I even used coat hangers to get that frankenstein job done. I wasn't meant to be pretty, It was solely to get the vehicle road legal again as cheaply as possible with the tools on hand. :D

As much as you want to get into Rebuilds I honestly think if you have found something that works for you, stick with it it.

The most frustrating thing for me was inconsistency (across the board), so I bought myself a Provari (Vapes the same from fresh to dead) and I got a ZAP (thinking simplicity is bliss).

I've built 2 coils on the ZAP and 4 coils on my AGA-T.

I nailed the ZAP coils first time both times and i STILL haven't got a coil to work on the AGA-T.

I'm sorry you are having so much trouble i really am, i feel your pain. I found just taking a step back and thinking "do i NEED to build this coil or will this 6 dollar thingy satisfy me"

Personally i found that the rebuilding part of the process is actually fun for me, the tweaking the different wraps.. AN EXCUSE TO BUY AND USE A BLOWTORCH IN THE LIVING ROOM WITHOUT MY WIFE LOOKING AT ME TOO FUNNY!!!! its all just a lot of fun for me...

If rebuilding is frustrating trash it, stick to what works and what provides the least amount of frustration.

I needing something that i enjoyed and the simplicity of flipping open that box of cigs...packing it...and lighting up...i have that now.

Officially off cigs for life...even if Niquid is illegal tomorrow...i'm still buying Pure Michigan (strawberry) and vaping the .... out of it just so i have a reason to keep using and rebuilding my AWESOME hardware.

I could not agree with you more. Its a challenge to rebuild and I love trying to get it right. I'm on my first one without many problems thanks to the pros in this forum. Did not make a move until I understood how to do it. So far so good.

Ahh ok so, not an actual arc weld though... Ok. More or less melting a metal together with a gas instead of electricity.

As long as you've got something that makes you happy. :)

I used to use top coil clearos only. Was a happy camper... except for the price of the heads. I bought my first Chid just to try out the RBA 'thing'. I got lucky & got my first coil right the first time (well, except for nudging out the hot spots).

Now... 5 Chids, 4 Chobras, 2 AGA-Ts, 1 AGA (w/ 2 AGA-T+s on the way) later, I'm a VERY happy camper. Rebuilds only cost pennies - on the rare occasions they need 'em.

With $300+ in rba's your rebuilds are more in the 5$ range LOL. But you can't put a price on having fun

but can't afford $100 on some item that keeps them off tobacco.

I told my son what to purchase & his wife loaded the cart Which was over $300 & she canceled it cause it was too much money. They spend about $5000 a year on cigarettes. Go figure. The son tried to reason with her but I guess she is the boss. I don't even know what to think.

like you said about opinions, this is what makes the world go around, i not saying that the clones cannot be set-up right, they work great, no doubt, and i did like them. but whenever i had set-up and vaped a hi-end device, there is just something better about the whole experience. for me i would rather have 3 or 4 hi-end devices then 12 not so hi-end devices, and this quality thing for me goes beyond vaping, in anything that i do or use, i have always opted for quality instead of quantity, thats just me.
