When the screen shows "short" where is the short? In the topper or in the PV? I've contacted Vapor Bank and after their first reply they are unwilling to help me out with this V3. Actually what they sold me as a V3 is a V2 by their own admission. Their policy on replacement is that you get 3 days and then you are SOL. Don't like them and am going to have to post a negative review in the Suppliers Forum.

Hey everybody,

Just received my sigelei Zmax V5. I got the kit which included the device, short end cap, 18350 and 18650, charger, and a "sigelei protank." I'm pretty sure it's a legit piece of kit, but my fire button is chrome and I noticed almost everybody in this thread has a clear-ish plastic one. How do I check the software version to see if I have a newer or older revision?

Thanks.

So far this is my 1st & only mod...

What do you guys have as a back-up?

Just concerned that one day this thing could quit on me, drop & break it, or simply lose it or something.

Tempted to get a 2nd one, though also open to something else in the VW category that can fit at least a 490/500 (not necessarily telescopic).

Anything comparable?

***

Sigelei ZMax V3 Tele Flat-Top ... ElectrinicStix (April 2013)

My backup is a mechanical mod ... Nemesis clone
- Low price
- Performs pretty well

*** Having at lease 1 mechanical mod in a collection is a good thing ***

So far, only one firmware version has been found for the V5: SI V2.0a. If the Sigelei says "Sigelei" on boot-up, it's a Sigelei.

How to display firmware (how to return to normal operation is next post)

On the V2 and V3 "Short" or "Short Circuit" means a short circuit of the atomizer. Wow, a three day warranty? That would have been a red flag for me.

@ lulu
Some attys or cartomizers have a problem and will read short because the center pin was wider on some of the v3s and can short in the 510. I have one type of carto that I can not tighten much or it shorts.

@poopy
A chrome button cool, is it metal or chrome plated plastic. Wonder what other changes have been made. It must be the newest version, where did you get it?

Honestly, I'm looking at my list of heavily-researched runners-up.. and none of them seem especially appealing to me (which is why I went with my Sig in the 1st place!)

It's only been a little over 2 weeks now, which is why I'm hesitant.. But on the flip side, I'm looking at my current back-up (Johnson Creek Vea) -- and I could never imagine going back to that thing, even for just a few days

Very tempting just to pull the trigger on a 2nd flat-top... Will try to hold off for a bit & see what else might pop up, but this thing has everything I'm looking for in a mod :thumb:

Yeah gato I hear you.. The best value in a vv is the zmax.. Either try to source the latest/ newest version of the v3/v5 or get a cheap mech like a stainless chiyou, nemisis, or magneto. Those are my runners up for price/value on a low end mech.

Yea it displays Sigelei on boot up and it's V2.0a as you said.

I believe it's metal, not quite sure how to tell other than the sound it makes by the "flick test." I got it on fleabay along with the kayfun which is the only reason I was concerned. So far seems legit though and the seller has great feedback and offers a 14-day return policy. It's not a 90-day warranty but it's some piece of mind and the unit seems *knock on wood* super solid so far.

Now I'm just ...... because I changed coils on the Aspire and I'm getting burnt flavor even down at 3.4v. Damn I thought these things were infallible! Kayfun can't get here soon enough, hopefully tomorrow!

And welcome to the group! Looks like you found a winner on eBay. Check to make sure you are operating the V5 on RMS and not Mean at Menu Item #8. That could be a possible cause for burnt flavor.

My eyes may be deceiving me, but it appears you still have the removable protector on the screen?

It's just a thin film of plastic-y material which scuffs up real easy. It's meant to be removed & peels right off (if you decide to keep it).

Gato, you are correct the film is still on there! I didn't even notice until you pointed it out. Thanks. I'm pretty sure I'm keeping it at this point, just want to keep using it for a couple days and make sure it keeps going strong.

At first I thought mine had a small scratch on the screen, until I remembered to remove the film. Perfect underneath.

I honestly wouldn't sweat it that it has a metal/chrome button. Seems like Sig is constantly tweaking these things, making all these small updates to them all the time.

Anyway, it could just be the photo's close-up & lighting playing a trick on me, but does the button also have a removable film protector, too? My plastic button didn't have one.. Just don't ruin the finish trying to remove it if it doesn't. :D

Anyway, enjoy your new Sig!

Is that the box in the background or a piece of paper/instructions?

Definitely seems like Sigelei likes to tweak! Nothing wrong with that. And I don't think there's plastic on the button, it's probably just my greesy fingas.:p

It's the box in the background. Came shrink wrapped brand new. Was bascially this kit except it came with a "Protank." Looks exactly like a Protank I with glass and metal just no Kanger logo. Haven't used it yet. Also the battereis are branded Sigelei like that picture LiCoO2 so Li-ion. They work fine but I've got two efest 18490 and a nitecore on the way.

Thanks buddy! And I set it to RMS first thing when I got it. I think it's just the hit or miss nature with the Aspire coils as I've heard a lot of people complain. Unfortunately they've been great until now. I cleaned off the 510 as there was a bit of juice leaking and it's vaping better, still can't go too much over 3.5v though without getting a burnt taste.

Also anybody know what the mod was that allowed you to use 18490s without telescoping? Cutting or removing the spring? I know I read it somewhere in the thread but can't find it.

Thanks everybody for being so helpful and informative.

That may be something new with the v5. My v3 says 9.9 ohms with nothing on top... Low load is under 1.4 ohms. If there's a short it should read short!! .

@becknco

I took off the 1.7 ohm and I've got a 3 ohm coil on it now. It does perform much better all round, also bigger clouds now. I could always fog up the room with 3 ohm but had trouble doing it with the 1.7. That's my experience. The battery also lasts twice as long, I'm usually at 15w/6v all day.

That's awesome - thanks for the tip - are you finding that the flavor is better then too?

I got my Sigelei Zmax V3 flat top back in March 2013 and it still works like a champ. I was having an issue of sometimes accidentally going into the menu when I was trying to vape a few months ago, but after applying some Noalox I haven't had any problems. I have the older version without a removable top cap.

My back up is a Sigelei Zmax mini flat top. It only takes an 18350 but it's great for out and about, and it's aluminum so it's lightweight. The only reason I got that as a back up instead of another telescopic is because it came in colors. Gotta love that hot pink! ;)
