You actually can meet a lot of people just hanging out here in the beginning. I'm still friends with some of the same people that started the same time period that I did. Because we were all hanging out in the new members forum, and all learning together, we've remained friends.
It's not all bad :)

Well folks, I do appreciate the warm welcome even though I started out with a gripe. I've noticed it's a good community and look forward to communicating about the experiences my girl has vaping. I'll try to talk her into signing up but forums tend to be a bit much for here to navigate at times...ha.

Agreed, some things are not in our control.

Trust me when I tell you that you would not want to be here if anyone was allowed to post wherever immediately. You would be faced with spam at every turn and what fun would that experience be? DO you have any idea how many shady suppliers and spammers that we catch on a weekly basis? Having them restricted to one section of the forum for a limited time makes this a better community for everyone.

I suspect that nothing someone has to post is so important that being cordial for 5 posts and one hour of time is that big a hardship.

Welcome to ECF:)

Not that I don't agree with the forum restrictions, because I do, but doesn't the newbie area just create more spam, albeit just in that topic area?

I don't think the restrictions reduce the amount of spam attempted, but it does localize it for easy removal. Since there is no way we could read every post made in every forum having it kept to one area makes it easier to manage. Spammer are notorious for being lazy, they will post their crap where ever they are allowed to. If we only allow them one spot, then we can see it quicker.
