Update:

So far so good. I'm still down to 2-3 cigarettes a day.

I'm finding its nice to have a 2nd flavor of juice handy.

I've ordered a nice variety of juices. I'm using Marlboro 24mg now which I like. I also have RY4 which I wasn't crazy about, but its growing on me and a nice change of pace.

I'm wondering if the coffee flavor juice goes well with.... coffee. The marlboro flavor doesn't go as well as real cigarettes do.

Tuesday I should have:

Coffee, Menthol, Virginia, 555, apple, and Hilton from Awesome Vapor.

One issue not often covered in juice reviews is long term aftertaste. I recall some cigarettes brands where good when I tried them, but got foul after you'd smoked several of them in a day.

Thanks Gooney0

So I have been using the 510 now for about 2 days and i am sooo loving it over the 901 i originally started with. It has a much better vapor production. i ordered some samples menthol's from Nhaler and i am really enjoying the Nuport. It has a sweetness i am really enjoying and even find myself smelling the stick to get a whiff. I originally was using the menthol from TW but it wasn't fully satisfying 100% of the time, partly because the TW juice is only 18 and the Nhaler is 24. I am wishing i didn't get that extra bottle from TW.....now I'm sitting with about 50mg of the stuff so i guess I'll have to work it in here and there until i use most of it up. :) Don't want to waste juice. I still haven't ventured to other flavors yet but i am thinking i want to try some chocolate. I am now completely off regular cigarettes I still crave them when i smell a real smoke out in public....but I reach for my 510 now instead of the cancer stick. Thanks for your posts Gooney0 Its nice to read about another newbies road down e-cigs.

SusanB,

I'm with you on the 24mg working better than the 18mg. My brain still thinks "Marlboro Medium time." I'm finding a few big hits of 24mg does the trick.

Interesting to hear you switched from a 901. I strongly considered that model, but got the idea the 510 may be more "powerful."

I'm trying to treat cigarettes like desert instead of potato chips. :D 75% of the time I want a cigarette it won't taste good anyway. Its nice to wait until the evening and maybe take a special break for ONE cigarette on the porch.

I'm starting to look at cigarettes as though they where cigars. You don't chain smoke cigars (i hope), they smell like crazy, and are expensive. When you light a cigar you stop and enjoy it. Cigar smokers don't rush through cigars.

Thank you for the thank you. Much of the value of this thread is the seasoned advice of the other posters. I'm attempting to pay it forward by answering the simple questions I can.

SusanB,

Quick question to benefit other menthol newbies:

What brand of cigarette did you smoke?

Do you have an "also try" brand of menthol juice in case someone doesn't like "Nuport"?

Latter this week I'll be trying most of the regular tobacco flavors to find the "best" one. It will help to be able to recommend a specific juice.

A few questions from a soon to be newbie...

My plan / scheme / wish

#1 transition from cigs to an e-cig.

#2 dial down the nicotine

#3 use the e-cig rarely, or at least when I want to. (not HAVE to)

Is this unrealistic or flawed? A big problem is finding people who have quit using e-cigs. Once they quit they won't be found in a forum like this, they just stop visiting.

What do you guys do in public? The 510 I ordered is black with a blue light. I don't think I want to be seen using it. I'm not worried about anti-smokers at all, but the idea of being addicted to something is embarrassing and something I'd rather not draw attention to.

Since this forum is dedicated to e-cigs this is kind of a silly question but.. what percentage of smokers like e-cigs? (silly because the ones that don't like e-cigs aren't going to be reading this)

Thanks for the nice website and forum. I liked the "newbie" sections.

on the being seen in public thing, its not noticable unless its dark out. and if its dark - apparently for the 510 a big sharpie cap fits perfectly snug over the end - which will make it "light-free" while you vape at night.

Update:

The cigarette cravings are much fewer now and much less intense. I no longer worry about where my pack and lighter are.

The local gas station must think i'm dead. I still have plenty of cigarettes left and haven't bought any for more than 2 weeks.

So far I've spent about $100 in e-cigs parts and juices. I have saved at least $80 in cigarettes though. I've also had fun buying and playing with new toys.

A friend came over the other night and mentioned he was happy to go home not smelling like smoke. I realized that my house smelled like smoke, but I didn't know other people would carry the smell home with them.

Hello all!

All I can say right now is...WOW!
The information in this thread alone has helped a newbie, like me, a tremendous amount! Ive not yet started the e-cig yet. I had a friend at work tell me about these. He found out about them from a relative of his, he tired it (red-bull flavor) and was sold on them. He sent me to a site, which after reading all week long here, is not a site favored to order from.

I know from reading this forum over the past week, which one I will end up ordering. I’ll be going with the 501, though there appears to be a few different ‘types’ of the 501, I like what people have said about it..the throat hit..the vapor..ease and looks. I, like a few others Im sure, jumped the gun a bit. Instead of ordering the 501 right off the bat, I ordered a SS choice No. 7 disposable menthol flavored e-cig. I have not received it yet, but should be here any day. I had the thought if I like it, then its both feet jumping in, if not, nothing much lost, until I looked at the price as I was researching. Not much difference between the starting kit and this disposable e-cig. Im just now sure how it will compare the the 501 version.

~Question: Has anyone tried one of these ‘disposable’ ones, and if so, how do they compare to the 501 version?

Right now, I smoke menthol lights. I do not have a brand as I purchases bulk amounts of roll your own tobacco. We are now down to our last few bags and I flat out refuse to pay the price for a pack of smokes ($7.00 where I live). I like to smoke, I enjoy the menthol flavor and the slight sweet after taste from my tobacco, I don’t want to quit and this seems like the perfect solution to my situation!

Given the fact I have COPD and Asthma, this seems like a by far healthier way for me to enjoy smoking, just a different version of it.

I had a few questions, but as I read they were answered. Yes you can mix the juice and create your own ‘flavor’. I do have one question that might be rather dumb…ok a few questions..lol

~Do all the different flavored juices come with nicotine? Is that standard that they do?
I noticed some do and you can pick your strength.

~If I order say, 12mg juice and 24 mg one, and mix them, will that give me a stronger mg or a mix half way between somewhere?

~Is there a difference in taste between the VG and PG juice? If not, Im thinking of ordering a few of each. I have read that some get headaches with the PG version, and given the fact Im prone to migraines, I tend to avoid anything that might even lead to a headache or the starting of a migraine.

I have a few more questions, but those can only be answered with time and with use. Something new can be frustrating and overwhelming. Us humans are creatures of habit and switching from one habit to another takes time to adjust to, I am willing to give it that time.

Kuddos to you, gooney0 for starting this thread and a BIG thanks to all of you who have respond with advice and your own experiences as well :)

Babsb,

Yes you can mix juice if you like. Different flavors, nicotine and so on. If you mixed 18mg and 24mg you'd wind up with something in between. PG and VG mixes are common also.

You can get juice in 0mg which is the goal of many of us have. As you shop around you'll find a lot of variety. Each vendors varies in the juice and flavors they sell. In some cases a flavor will taste different from one vendor to another.

You'll find a lot of good vendors mentioned here on the forums. You may need to shop around to find everything you want though.

The "510" is what I use and is a popular choice on the forums. As you have discovered these devices are often renamed and branded. It is usually best to refer to them by their generic model #.

I'm glad you enjoyed this thread. I was hoping my experience (good or bad) would be helpful to others walking the same path. Thanks again to the more seasoned vapers for posting advice to us.

gooney,

This is a great thread. I read it from the begining to the end. I am a brand new e-cig user. I just received my m402 today. (I'll post my adventures with it in a new thread) However, after everything I read in your thread, I decided that I am going to buy a 510 for my next model. Please keep posting. Everyone has so far been very helpful.:)

Thanks Ponda, though most of the knowledge has come from the other posters.

Now that i'm a few weeks into it I've had more experience with the equipment. Here are a few things i've found:

1) I use 3 batteries, 1 PCC, and 1 wall charger. I can charge two batteries and use 1. When I see the green light I switch out batteries. This avoids getting stuck with no live battery.

2) Atomizers become less effective over time. I have 3 attys. I use 1 for Marlboro, 1 for coffee flavor and 1 is being cleaned.

When dirty the atty will get a heavier draw and produce less vapor. It will also not do a good job of emptying the cartridge and become prone to leaking.

I have discovered the secret to cleaning is in the drying. Here is a post with my whole process:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tips-tricks/43945-510-atty-cleaning-success.html

Today was my first day of 0 cigarettes. Up until now I've had 1-3 per day. Much of the reason for having 1-3 cigarettes is simply latching on to smoking. I don't actually want a cigarette but somehow feel bad if I break the trend. I guess if I quit that means I can't go back again?
