I never understand the references from people who seem to feel eating healthy is like some kind of torture. :p Maybe they just got used to processed or bad food or something and their taste buds adapted to that (food in a bag, box, can, etc.) To me, clean fresh food just tastes so good !!!!

I was invited over for dinner at a friend's house.....the side dish was some kinda rice-in-a-bag frozen concoction thing. I really had a lot of trouble pretending to eat that. I filled up on the fresh salad and used that as an excuse as to why I wasn't hungry for the main dishes.

A lot of people grew up at McDonalds... At work a number of guys in their early 20's come in with with bags of fast food before work and when they come back from break. One is now obese, a few more are on their way. Most probably won't make it to 50...

^^^ yeah, sometimes I read some of these posts and I want to ask: "are you trying to convince me or YOURSELF?"

You can fully expect getting in return that meme, you know the one, "you have to die of something"....... ......the ultimate justification for self-abuse.....

(we're all familiar with that one.....we used it to allow ourselves to keep smoking....)

Yeah, I used to say smoking will just take the last 20 years of my life. I didn't want to live to be what I considered old...

According to zealots of all colors we all took unnecessary risks, didn't we? What I don't understand is why these anti-risk zealots are not going themselves to some secluded convent with fresh air, clean water, organic food and no modern life stress, instead of killing themselves in smog with processed food, contaminated water and stress - for what? saving the people that don't want to be saved?

They can't really help themselves. They know what's best for everyone. They know what values people should have. They want conformity but claim diversity.

I eat lots from my garden, but there are lots of stuff I could grow that I just don't like.
Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, egg plant, squash, okra, etc. Just not to my tastes.

At first reading I only noticed 3 logical fallacies (personal incredulity, anecdotal evidence and strawman), but then at second reading I realized you loaded these two sentences with much more. Very skillful. Are you trolling or something?

The funny thing is that, pretty much like in the vaping case, the nutritionists do not have long time (lifelong) studies of their proposed diets. In fact, they have already backpedalled several times.

I completely agree, and I've never understood those TV commercials about not telling your kids that something is healthy; if they don't know what healthy tastes like (and that it can be VERY tasty!!) how the hell will they know how to eat?!?!?!

My point was made to my son, on the subject of (a kid's perennial favorite) Hot Pockets vs Lean Pockets -- we normally always buy Lean Pockets for those quick bites when it's too much trouble to cook, but once, his favorite wasnt' available in Lean Pockets, only in Hot Pockets, so at his insistence I got that. 30 minutes after eating it, he got to look at it again, and swore he would NEVER get Hot Pockets instead of Lean Pockets ever again! :D

Agree with all this, but the thing is about tastes better.

I'd take a good steak over a great salad almost any day. And I'd take eating great steak for 7 days straight over a good salad for same amount of time.

That you can have both at any time/meal, seems like wonderful news.

Until someone comes along and says, here read this study on why you ought to think twice before every having a steak again.

Given enough time (and incentive to do so), and I'm certain we can find plenty wrong with fresh salads.

Actually I'm about 50/50 on steak vs. a great salad; it's the bread and potatoes I could easily live without -- though I LOOOOOOOOVE mashed potatoes!

But I have to watch carefully eating anything that has a lot of cholesterol; gall-stones, so eggs and fatty beef just make me SICK, for 3 days. If I eat a steak, it has to be a small portion of the absolute leanest cut available; filet mignon is perfect, and I generally wouldn't even eat a whole one of those.

My husband's boss is a hunter, so we often get nice cuts of venison, and I love that; it's sorta like beef, without all the fat and cholesterol. A bit on the dry side though; I usually prepare it as a "pot roast" so there's plenty of moisture, and the long cooking tenderizes it.

I did say "almost any day."

I'm around 85/15 on steak vs. great salad. There are days where if I had the choice to make, I'd go with great salad. But I hate when I'm anticipating great salad, and it turns out to be "meh, just okay." Makes me wish I had gone for the good steak instead.

If it tasted as good as a pizza I'd be all over it.

As it is, I'm lucky my wife is such an excellent cook.
She can even make kale taste pretty good.
:)

As far as I'm concerned, there is nothing green that tastes good without serious help.

My wife can do some wonderful things with broccoli and squash.
The other things you mentioned there is nothing she can do to make it edible as far as I'm concerned.

I like Avocados (with anything), Artichokes - butter helps, Cabbage - slaw, fried; Celery - peanut butter :) (an Atkins snack). Eggplant - parmesan (ie. serious help), and if you have a Levy restaurant by you, eggplant French fries (at WDW - Portabellos) are great. Served with marinara sauce. I'd have them everyday if available.... or if I had your wife cooking ;- )

the order looks like this:

Someone tried to duplicate the recipe...
Closet Cooking: Crispy Baked Eggplant Fries with Marinara Dipping Sauce (aka Eggplant Parmesan Fries!)

And to stay on topic  the fries have nicotine in them
