Slight potential problem..

First of all, I'm proud to say that I've been a dedicated vaper for eight months now, and my e-cig (Joytech Ego-T) is giving me both great vapor output and a killer throat hit. However, I've noticed something when I switched to a passthru battery.

When I vape, the liquid in my tank turns a deep brownish black as it runs out. The e-juice darkening in the tank is not unusual but the speed at which it turns dark and the degree have changed. Again, no complaints as far as vape or throat hit. As far as I can guess, this is being caused by one of two factors.

First, I started mixing my own e-juice recently and I'm concerned that I may be mixing the nicotine/flavor/pg solution wrong, or second I'm cleaning out my atomizer incorrectly. Should the rapid darkening of my e-liquid be a cause for concern? And if so, what would be the best way to fix it?

You can really only compare the color-change in Ejuice to itself, i.e. using the same ejuice in both your battery and your passthrough.

In my experience, my passthroughs run hot, and when you heat up juice it can change color. The age of the atty/carto has an effect as well.

Unless you see melted plastic where the juice sits, or other signs of degradation of your components, it is most likely not a huge issue- but to be safe i would try using a different juice to see if the problem goes away, and maybe look into getting a stainless tank for whatever homemade juice you're brewing up. DIY juice is easy, but a slight mistake can have bad consequences...be careful out there.

What was the other battery. Voltage change or a dirty atty are the only things that come to mind. If the atty gets a lot of build up you won't get a good vape. I had a Ego CE on a Twist and it was got to be little vapor and a lot of a burning feel. Cleaned it and that fixed it. That and I had the voltage high.
here is a link with a lot of cleaning info.

It happens to any juice whether its diy or storebought. I believe it is the heat from the atty but can't prove it.

It usually is. Rarely, if you use certain oil-based or acidic flavorings, you can actually melt the plastic parts of your setup- but like I said, it's pretty rare. Lemon, lime, and cinnamon are the three I've heard of this happening with, mainly cinnamon.

Oh my just loaded up some cinnamon.
Wonder if clove and wintergreen do that?

Vanilla and cinnamon, I have had problems with burning up ego-c type A attys and also seems to have ruined a wick in my carto setup. I had no problems till I did that. I only used one drop of vanilla or cinnamon to 15ml fluid, tasted great but after one or two refills... Burnt plastic taste. I think they caramelize on the element in the atomizer.

My DIY juice turns dark brown...but not black... in my tank. Since I drip otherwise, IDK. Doesn't seem to do that as much when I blow out the atty...but it is yellowish.

So chemical change/coloring/mixing/somtheing going on. Meh.

One thought: If you want help your DIY mix stay cool...maybe add a drop or two of water to your mix. Keep the % low. Seems to help smooth it out. And water carries away excess heat and helps wick the juice particularly with high VG juices since VG is thick. Theory here. Also, bet the juice still turns color. ;) Heat accelorates reactions and most juice will turn color over time anyway. Even nic bases that start out clear.
