Reversing the spring does eliminate the need to adjust the brass cap every time you switch batteries. And I think it does affect something? Because since switching it back to normal (spring away from battery bottom) the overheating cap stopped....coincidence? Maybe.

If the brass button was not making good contact with your battery, or the steel end cap, it will create resistance. If it were to be one ohm resistance, which is not that much, the end cap will get as hot as your coil. My thoughts, anyway.

I screw my cap on until I make good contact. The cap is not always completely seated on the tube, depending on the battery I use, so I never adjust it anyway. The whole key here is to complete the circuit. That means clean connections and no gaps. I have never had a problem with my cap on my Semovars. Just sayin'...

I do adjust my springless cap to fit the batteries I use. So far I faced no overheating problems. But...bear with me ...if the correct positioning of the spring beneath the brass contact disc has no bearing on the contact or the connectivity or the voltage level, then the inescapable conclusion is that the spring is essentially useless and is a nuance at best!

Here are some pictures, a little late but.

The control head had these insulators that I don't think improve electrical conductivity. Like the cap over the main 510 power pin.

You guys judge as dissect then yourself.

The semovar control head section.

Here's the bottom battery ends with the insulator, twist it of to expose the single screw holding the nivel chip in place

Here's the top, where the 510 cap goes or hybrid connector, again shielded by the white insulator and a metal plug between the hot 510 + pin from the nivel into the screw on the bottom of the atty in hybrid mode also.

Now without that metal cap between the nivel + fire spring I wonder that extra cap present interference the form of resistance

Here it is without the metal cap

By removing the cap, aren't you exposing the chip to possible eliquid damage? This chip will not withstand a bath with our juice, or so I've seen on YouTube videos. The Provari, for example, can be cleaned with PG, or so I've been told by reliable sources. I'm still too scared to try it, LOL.

Seems like those caps being removed might help voltage drop? Thoughts?

May be....but see my previous comment. I can't remember what Youtube video explained the insulator (and, O-ring, btw) as also protecting the chip from juice exposure. Been a while, though, and I can't remember what reviewer said it.

Tamer, the spring dimensions are 11mm long, 8mm in diameter and it is 1mm coil stock.

Thanks, this is very useful, but I was questioning its usefulness after what you guys said. If it does not improve conductivity or result in a firmer contact, then it seems to me it's redundant or useless.

Tamer Dude!

The spring, when tucked under the button does very little, is my guess. It does provide some extra connectivity, and will help keep the brass button from screwing down into the cap (thus holding your adjustment) when replacing batteries. It certainly does not hurt anything.

For a faction of a pound, I would take PaMailMan's specs and get a spring, or two.

And, Phone Dude is correct. If you have the spring facing out, you do not have to worry about adjusting the cap for different batteries. A convenience that I embrace.

Cheers,

SUCCESS.......the new Nivel chip works. Five minutes, maybe, and up and running. Firmware is still 1.80 so no change there.
Now I need to figure out the nut size for the tiny screw that holds the display window on. Was changing it out the other night at work. I hold the nut in a pair of hemostats and boing, it flew out to be never seen again.

Ouch...now that can be a ..... to find in Egypt...same as the spring btw :(

Well, I checked the usual sources, and it is not an easy find here either. Maybe it does not have to be an exact fit, but I dunno. USA is funny about metric stuff.

Try emailing SvoeMesto.de, and play the victim. It is probably a 15 cent part (cheap, cheap, cheap). Goodness knows that they are not doing anything else useful. No KFL4, no mech button, no kick tube, no new Mini. The least they can do is keep a current owner happy.

Did you ever get your DigitalSteam.ee order? Hopefully you have had some luck in your life.

Or if they can just provide the sizing and threading, it may be quite easy to find. Just depends on the specs.

Actually the digitalsteam.ee order arrived in Cairo on the 26th and it's sitting in the customs office since then. I'm keeping my fingers crossed hoping that they will not refuse its entry on the grounds that it's ecigarette parts. Our customs cabe really stupid at times. The funny part is that I managed to get my Semo and my wife's Provari that I got through the classifieds because i had them delivered by a courier company, but I may not be able to get the stupid accessories through the regular postal service.

I will try using some old springs I have from my son's broken toys, a car charger that i no longer use..etc. and get back to you. I used the spring from a car charger with a hammer clone and it improved the voltage drop dramatically.
